My sister is telling me I’m a freak - but any hotter is awful, surely?

Mines at 18.. it's perfect. Might turn it down tomorrow as temperature outside is set to rise.

DecafDodger · 19/02/2025 19:24

Would be way too cold for me. People are different.

SeLHopeful2024 · 19/02/2025 19:25

Mine is at 18, but I'm turning it down to 16 and wearing more layers some days.
My house doesn't feel warm, but hoping that's going to be fixed with new windows and doors rather than a temp increase.

I'm being overly cautious though as I've just moved and I have gas and electric bills for the first time!

HarryVanderspeigle · 19/02/2025 19:27

I don't know how to use my thermostat, but with heating on a while it would usually be 17-20. Would often be 15 or lower getting in from work in winter. I presume the thermostat is doing something as it doesn't go to 30 or anything silly if we leave the heating on .

InTheRainOnATrain · 19/02/2025 19:28

You’re both wrong?! It’s colder end of normal which I’d class as anything between 18 and 20. So no you’re not a freak but equally 19/20 isn’t awful either.

TickingAlongNicely · 19/02/2025 19:28

I think some houses feel hotter than others when at the same temp on the thermostat... ours feels really toasty at 18. Its often at 16 during the day and completely fine.

SauvignonBlanche · 19/02/2025 19:29

I’ve just been away with a DSis who was setting the Hive thermostat to 15! 🥶

PinkPandaShoes · 19/02/2025 19:29

Too cold for us

AcquadiP · 19/02/2025 19:29

I like mine to be 19 - 20, I'd find 18 too low.

sparklehorse24 · 19/02/2025 19:31

Used to set to 21, but I overheat easily after pregnancy 😂 so now 19 max (and because of cost!). Usually 18 but boosted to 19 if chilly.

Lmnop22 · 19/02/2025 19:31

Mine has to be 20 to feel comfortable and not have to have layers or a blanket during the day. 18 at night is perfect though!

NoSoupForU · 19/02/2025 19:32

In the warmer months 18 is fine. When it's freezing out its too cold for me. I set mine to 20.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2025 19:34

but any hotter is awful, surely?

No it isn't.
Ours is set at 20 degrees. DH has dreadful circulation and any lower would make him ill.

mynameiscalypso · 19/02/2025 19:35

20 degrees here too (although it's set lower at night). It's an old, cold, damp house so it needs it.

Elisabeth3468 · 19/02/2025 19:35

Set mine at 21-22 🤣 we have no Rad in the hallway due to it being refurbished though and it tends to just suck all the heat as it's freezing in there

coffeeabdteav · 19/02/2025 19:35

Mines at 15 in the hall otherwise too expensive. Upstairs is over 20 downstairs is ao cold. Still £7 a day .

LlamaDharma · 19/02/2025 19:36

Mine is at 19. This place is better insulated. My old house I had it at 23 in winter. It depends on the house and the person.

Vettrianofan · 19/02/2025 19:37

23 is perfect 😊

CatsLikeBoxes · 19/02/2025 19:37

My house is freezing because it's single glazed, draughty and I can't afford to put the heating on much. But I think it depends on your activity levels - if you're always on the go doing housework then you'll be comfortable at a lower temp. If you are sitting down a lot it usually needs to be higher to feel comfortable even with more layers on. If money was no object I think 20-21 is perfect for lounging around.

sunbum · 19/02/2025 19:37

mine hovers between 20 and 23 ..

Oh no, I run cold and that would be awful!

Wish I could though, would save me a fortune 😬

AlisonWhatIsTheMatter · 19/02/2025 19:39

Ours is set at 18 but we can move our thermostat around, therefore usually keep it in the living room, which is always the warmest room of the house. Yes, it’s then cooler upstairs but not freezing, and we’re then not too warm when we go to bed.

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 19/02/2025 19:39

16 here, jumpers exist and I've already paid for them 😁
