My sister is telling me I’m a freak - but any hotter is awful, surely?

18 is the max during the day and I turn it right down to 15/16 at night. I couldn’t sleep any warmer as it gets hot upstairs.

TheJinxMinx · 19/02/2025 21:21

Too low for me id be freezing I have mine at minimum 26 in winter but im always cold i can put layers on but hate having cold air in the house. By the way I dont have it on all the time it comes on in the morning reaches the 26 then back on about 3 to again get to the 26 and at night again so its not on constant thermostat if that makes sense

ttcat37 · 19/02/2025 21:23

Ours is 18. Used to be lower but we have young’uns now so have to make it warmer. Anything more energetic than walking from room to room and I’m sweating, it’s too warm for me.

SmileEachDay · 19/02/2025 19:38

Ohhh…
I have no heating at all on at night 😂😂

We have no heating on at night either. After 6 pm, we heat the lounge with the woodstove, but the rest of the house and the bedroom is cool. I cannot sleep in a hot bedroom.

User19876536484 · 19/02/2025 21:25

Ours is set at 16. It is in the hall though which is the coldest part of the house.

Lassango · 19/02/2025 21:26

I prefer 17-18 maximum and wearing a light jumper in the colder months. Generally it sits between 16 an 17.

At night time it needs to drop to 15 before the heating kicks in.

Yet I was not unduly bothered when it hit 42 degrees the other summer.

GetMyAgentOnThePhone · 19/02/2025 21:27

Goes up to 17 in the morning if I’m WFH then drops down to 16 during day / at 9am. I have a heater I use to warm my study as I refuse to heat the whole house when I’m in one room all day. Also make much use of cashmere jumpers, socks and Ugg boots.

17 in the evening and then 16 again over night.

I think some houses feel hotter than others when at the same temp on the thermostat... ours feels really toasty at 18. Its often at 16 during the day and completely fine.

This.
Numerical comparison between two houses doesn't make much sense, because the thermostat measures temperature at it's small very specific spot, and while the heat is spreading in the room/house, it is heavily imperfect system, so the other end of the room has different temperature.

We have thermostatic heads in each room, and the same setting in two neighbouring rooms leads to different outcomes.

Zanatdy · 19/02/2025 21:33

20 for me, 18 pretty low

Catza · 19/02/2025 21:33

I try to have mine at 18 but I am wearing multiple layers as it is way too cold when I am working. If I feel rich, I'd put it up to 20 but, really, I would need it much higher than that to be comfortable. No heating after 7pm though so it drops to about 12 by the morning.

Bellavida99 · 19/02/2025 21:34

We have ours 19 from 6am to 5pm then 20 from 5-11pm and off at night. It’s warm enough but not hot and stuffy. I’d find 18 cold for sitting around or getting out of the shower definitely

Gonners · 19/02/2025 21:35

Pickingmyselfup · 19/02/2025 21:19

20-24 with slippers, tracksuit bottoms, hoodie or oodie. Blanket if I'm sitting still.

I am always cold though and I hate the feel of cold air/a cold nose.

Lately I've been going to bed in a fluffy jumper because I've been waking up cold. No heating on at night though.

I find that as long as my feet are warm, I'm fine - so fluffy bedsocks do the job for me!

Returni · 19/02/2025 21:36

Mines on 20

fromthegecko · 19/02/2025 21:36

16°C. Off overnight.

Womanofcustard · 19/02/2025 21:37

Zero degrees here outside, thermostat at 18, nice and warm!
Don’t know how I managed when it was set to 21, as per official advice (at the time)

HundredPercentUnsure · 19/02/2025 21:38

Mine is at 18dc but the house less than that generally because the thermostat is kept in baby's bedroom and the door is kept closed/pulled to to keep the heat in and regulate the temp in there. My bedroom sits comfortably at 16dc, the hall is about 14dc, kitchen about 15/16dc. Living room about 16, 17. Upstairs (loft conversion) is always warmer, more like 18-19dc.

Drafty old house!

Plus my kids and DH run warm and I run cold. If DH had his way the thermostat would be at 16.

KimberleyClark · 19/02/2025 21:39

18 is fine for us.

Strictlymad · 19/02/2025 21:39

See I am a cold person, always freezing hands and feet, closing all the windows dh opens saying he wants fresh air. But…. I find central heating so suffocating and stifling. It’s not that it’s hot- it just creates the most awful stuffy atmosphere imo. So I have 18.5 ish on the day and 15 at night. Is it toasty- no, but I can’t stand it on hotter. I still have chillblains! Roll on spring

Verbena17 · 19/02/2025 21:40

Moier · 19/02/2025 19:22

Mines at 18.. it's perfect. Might turn it down tomorrow as temperature outside is set to rise.

This is what I never get…..if the outside temp goes up, shouldn’t the heating thermostat adjust itself and not come on for a bit until your home cools down to the 18 degrees - if your home is too warm?

TheSidewinderSleepsTonite · 19/02/2025 21:41

I find 18 a bit too cold but 19 just right

26!! Do you grow watermelon and lemons in your lounge! I’d be wafting around in a serong!

SP2024 · 19/02/2025 21:44

Ours is set at 18 or 18.5. And we have to keep it at 17.5 overnight otherwise the baby’s room goes to under 15 and he wakes up cold (two external walls and an air brick).

Haha I wish maybe I'm just compensating for my lack of exotic holidays but in all honestly it feels normal to me anything less and I have really cold hands and feet. I should change my username to tomato really 🤔

IfYouLook · 19/02/2025 21:46

Jeez I’m team 21-23 just now I am.
