My sister is telling me I’m a freak - but any hotter is awful, surely?

14 here. But do have log burner which goes on when required - but def not every night!

Mine is 18 during the day going up to 19.5 when it's really cold and first thing in the morning before getting up. Off at night. I like morgue temps to sleep in.

Morgue temperatures to sleep 😍

21/22 any lower and it feels chilly to me.

user2848502016 · 19/02/2025 20:15

My house feels cold at 18, we have it at 20 but off overnight and during the day

WildFlowerBees · 19/02/2025 20:17

Being perimenopausal in winter is great, not much fun in the summer.

ironingboardsarenotweapons · 19/02/2025 20:17

23 degrees constantly here. I live in a new build house as well. DH and the kids walk around in shorts and t shirts in the house. By comparison I'm wearing a t shirt, cardigan, fluffy pyjama bottoms, wool socks and I'm underneath a duvet and 2 fluffy blankets.

No, I'm hellbent on single handedly causing the global warming crisis. Neither am I hellbent on sweating my family to death. I have a medical condition that means I can't regulate my own body temperature very well. Once I get cold I stay cold no matter what. It's horrible.

😱

How do you breathe.

😂

How do you cope in summer? 23 degrees is nice and warm, not baking hot.

CakeBeautifulCake · 19/02/2025 20:23

Yep, 18 max. Then turned off around 8pm so it's cold but cosy come bedtime.

CatsLikeBoxes · 19/02/2025 20:25

mindutopia · 19/02/2025 20:09

Ours hovers between 12.5-14.5c. It’s too hot for us beyond that. 😂

So if that is the temperature outside on a cloudy dat, would you happily sit in the park with no coat on? Most people outside would be wearing coats walking around at 13⁰.

Differentstarts · 19/02/2025 20:25

We have it at 20. I'd be cold at 18

Barney16 · 19/02/2025 20:25

Mines on 17 because I'm sick of buying heating oil and nearly bankrupting myself. I would go lower but partner is a complete twat about heating. Seems to think there's a prohibition on indoor sweater wearing.

I think some houses feel hotter than others when at the same temp on the thermostat... ours feels really toasty at 18. Its often at 16 during the day and completely fine.

this. My house doesn't feel warm unless the thermostat is on 22.

Pokadotspink · 19/02/2025 20:34

between 18 and 20 after that then its too hot, usually i put it on eg 18 then put on top a dressing gown if needed

Not everyone is menopausal.

I get depressed at anything less than 22, and I never want to get out of bed if it's cold.

BertieBotts · 19/02/2025 20:37

Ah right yes, I see what you mean. I think it is more to do with placement of the thermostat than anything else. We have the one in the bathroom set to 25 because it's over the vent for the tumble dryer so it always thinks it's warmer than it is.

soupyspoon · 19/02/2025 20:37

No one is unreasonble, its an unreasonable way of referring to differences in how people want to live

I am in pain at the moment due to feeling so cold, our thermostat reads 20 and Im in the living room with the wood burner

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/02/2025 20:37

21 during the day, but heating is always off at night.

I’m not menopausal!

Unless thermostats are an indicator 😱

In this house 20 feels too warm and I have ro turn it down.

FlowerUser · 19/02/2025 20:41

I have cold-induced asthma so it's 21C during the day and 16C at night.

I am prepared to reduce spending on many things except heat.

Vettrianofan · 19/02/2025 19:37

Ohhh…
I have no heating at all on at night 😂😂

We do the same, (why heat the house at night?).

But there is a huge difference between modern homes with lots of insulation (they lose very little heat over night) and your typical Victorian built home.

We currently live in an old Victorian farmhouse without double glazing and, back when it was very cold in January, I woke up early one morning before the heating came on and, going down into the kitchen, the temperature there was 7 degrees C.

That really does show how much heat old houses can lose over night.

We haven't done anything to improve the house as we bought it a couple of years ago with the intention of knocking it down and rebuilding.

So we're just suffering with it until the builders start on-site later this year (it's taken us quite a long time to get planning and then to get the builders to be available)

RaveToTheGrave1 · 19/02/2025 20:45

Mine kicks in if it gets to 19, has to be on 19 or 20 for me to be comfy

And if it gets colder overnight your pipes can freeze then burst, causing flooding. Cheaper to heat to at least 10C than need an emergency plumber.
