My sister is telling me I’m a freak - but any hotter is awful, surely?

21/22 here, 18 at night! And yes I am wearing thick jumpers.

abracadabra1980 · 19/02/2025 20:47

I vote you are living in an igloo.

MiddleAgedDread · 19/02/2025 20:47

It depends what you’re doing……if you’re on the go doing housework etc then 18 Is fine. For working from home it’s bearable if you’re wearing a decent number of clothes, for sitting watching tv it’s getting chilly and might need a blanket, and for overnight in bed it’s warm IMO.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/02/2025 20:49

Ooft, too cold for me during the day, although I have it at 18 at night. Funny how different we are re what’s a normal temp in our homes.

Doggymummar · 19/02/2025 20:51

Mine comes on at 18 but I don't have an upper temperature switch off. I guess that means it goes off at 19? Not sure

NaomiTroll · 19/02/2025 20:51

Can only afford to heat my house to go above 11 degrees once or twice a day, so 18 sounds positively balmy.

Fiorenzsay · 19/02/2025 20:51

Ours is 22.5! In a very well insulated new build.

I feel the cold, my husband overheats in a second but this works for us.

Generally use an hour in the morning and evening if it's really cold.

MotionofTime · 19/02/2025 20:52

God, I live in a freezer compared to most - house is usually 12 degrees.

recklessgran · 19/02/2025 20:52

Our thermostat is in the hall and we keep it on 24 during the day but off at night. Upstairs is always freezing and our sitting room is often registering 26. Lucky to be able to afford to keep warm how we like it in our retirement.

18 is FREEZING. 21 is ideal.

Jaehee · 19/02/2025 20:54

I wouldn’t normally have the heating on at all as I have a heat pad, but I’ve suddenly started getting chilblains so I’ve been setting it to 20C for a couple of hours in the evening.

Never had heating on at night.

No no NO.

21 is stifling.

Unless you’re on a beach. Maybe you live on a beach?

The thermometer on the kitchen wall is usually 16-20 in the day and 23 in the evening. Solid fuel powered central heating so not as straightforward as choosing a temperature. House is always lovely and warm

Vettrianofan · 19/02/2025 20:57

I have heating on at night or I can't sleep as its bloody freezing 😫

AngryBird6122 · 19/02/2025 20:57

We have ours at 20.5 all the time. Have tried to go lower but it just sets off DS asthma!

SnoozingFox · 19/02/2025 20:59

We have ours set at 20 which is perfect for us. 18 while working from home = too cold. I obviously wear jumpers and socks but I am not wrapping myself in a blanket to work.

You are going to get the competitive under-heaters though who are "roasting" at 12c.

But what about the glorious getting cold then snuggling in the toasty warm bed?

Spanielsaremad · 19/02/2025 20:59

I'm with you op. I hate heating on and happily WFH all day in 12 degrees. I put the heating on when everyone else comes home for the day. It goes on at 17.5, that feels very hot and stuffy to me.

TwoBlueFish · 19/02/2025 21:00

18 during the day and 14 over night. Will put it up to 19 in the evening if it’s a bit chilly and we’re watching TV.

Givemestrength1000 · 19/02/2025 21:00

Mine is on 23. Perfect and toasty. I cannot stand being cold!

Vettrianofan · 19/02/2025 21:00

We had problems with the boiler recently where it wasn't on at night and it was awful. Was lying wide awake because it was frozen.

No, I just need to feel warm!

wickerlady · 19/02/2025 21:02

My house doesn't go below 18.5 (it's well insulated). When it gets to 18.5 the heating is on!
