DH not happy

I have just entertained DMIL DFIL and all the family for a roast dinner. We had a bottle of bubbles when they arrived. I cooked and served a full roast. Then we went for a walk, we have 4 under 5.
When we got back I did teas and coffees for everyone. Cleared, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher etc. As well as breastfeeding a baby.
Had a quick dance party to tire kids out.
during which DH commented I was drunk and should stop dancing.
We have now put the kids to bed.
Have poured a glass of wine out of what was left from DMIL and DFiL bottle they left with us. Fully thought I earned it but maybe not. Am I wrong.

I'd love a glass of prosecco right now!!! Pregnant so can't.
With my first 2 babies i researched for hours about the science of breastfeeding and alcohol and came to the conclusion that a few, sensibly, is fine.
No idea where they NHS got this "one drink a day" rule from. Doesn't seem to be any scientific basis behind it and people often quote NHS guidelines as gospel even though they change on a regular basis and you may on occasion be given advice from HCP (such as my own GP in one instance) that completely contradicts the stated "rules" online.
As for people saying op is binge drinking by having 3 glasses spread over an entire day with exercise, food and soft drinks in between. Give your head a wobble.

Here's a fun fact! A whole bottle of wine can be one glass if you pop a straw in it.

Another fun fact, the top of a Fruit Shoot bottle fits on to the top of a bottle of wine!

PandaTime · 16/02/2025 20:59

For me, it depends on what his concern is. You've had 3 glasses so far, but is that your limit or are you someone who keeps going? Or are you someone who turns obnoxious after a drink and he's dreading that? It's rather strange to accuse someone of being drunk after 2 glasses of wine without there being a background to it.

So.... it becomes a giant adult fruit shoot? I'm living for this information 😂

I would ask how you discovered this but I fear it would cause some posters to expire from shock and disgust.

pelargoniums · 16/02/2025 21:01

I’m all for binge drinking but I must draw the line at fruit shoots

WhatFreshHellisThese · 16/02/2025 21:01

Whoops crucial word of my post missing: very very LITTLE alcohol goes in the breast milk. Like fresh orange juice type equivalent as other have said

PandaTime · 16/02/2025 21:02

Someone once bought me a wine glass that could hold a full bottle of wine. Being a compulsive sipper, I finished my drink it in under 30 mins. 😅 Never again. Must stick to normal wine glasses.

has anyone noticed the hostess has left the melee ?

Hopefully, she's in bed making up her mind not to host the husband's family anytime soon again.

Thedownstream · 16/02/2025 21:11

Wow, OP you are truly superhuman to have done all that with 4 kids under 5. Did your DH not help at all? I would have been in no position to do all of that with my kids whilst breastfeeding one of them and with DH not helping.

How old is your baby through? If you say just a few weeks I might question whether you’d be tipsy after a couple of glasses. Presumably you didn’t drink when pregnant and for me even one glass after a long break left me tipsy and with a hangover. I wouldn’t have been able to look after a baby after 2 even if spread out. If baby is a few months old and your not likely to need to feed them in the next few hours then 3 glasses doesn’t feel like a problem (from a taking care of the baby perspective rather than a breastfeeding perspective, which seems fine regardless). I could not however cope with looking after the kids the next day even with a mild hangover, hence I am teetotal at the moment.

Or 3. 😂

But the 3 were not after all that 🤣, they were spaced out over the day!

I think it already has. The braying from the fun sponges has thinned somewhat.

Hurrah! Let's toast to that.

checks fridge

How much orange juice do I need to drink to get the same amount of alcohol as a glass of wine?

ChillWith · 16/02/2025 21:35

Of course you deserve your fun. Was it a special occasion?

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 16/02/2025 21:36

I've got no idea, OP, because you could be someone who drinks perfectly normally and reasonably with a nasty abusive husband, you could be someone who drinks perfectly normally and reasonably with a normally OK husband who was having a difficult moment or a bad day, or you could be someone with a booze problem whose husband is resigning himself to watching her drink herself into a stupor for the fourth night in a row. I have no idea and nor does anyone else on this thread.

MarioLink · 16/02/2025 21:38

As long as you don't plan to drive two glasses is perfectly acceptable and a third us fine if you can handle it. Hardly any gets in breastmilk.

Why were you doing all the work?

Gonners · 16/02/2025 21:40

action-rehab.com (which we should surely all be consulting, in the unlikely event that we can still focus on the page) says:

  • Wine: The average glass of wine can take 3 hours to leave your system, half of your favourite bottle can stay in your system for 4.5 hours, and the average bottle can take 9 whole hours to leave your body.

So the arrival prosecco is out of your system by the time you've cooked lunch, solo; the glass with lunch is gone by the time you've finished clearing up, also solo, and gone for a walk; I might possibly have poured the third glass over your DH's head and then hit him over the head with the empty bottle and told him to get on with the breastfeeding.

I didnt discover it, a friend texted me with this information that he had got from....who knows where? I had primary aged kids at the time and tested it and I have photo evidence that it is indeed true!

I would have post via my phone to show the photo but I do have it!

Forget the alcohol, why the actual fuck did your H not at the very bloody least do the dishwasher loading & unloading? That's insane so he just sat on his arse and did bugger all whilst you did all of that? I'd be dead without 4 under 5
