Lucy Letby.....she might actually be innocent?!

I have just watched the full press conference and I'm blown away. There seems to be no actual evidence AT ALL that she killed or injured those babies. This could be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice there has ever been in this country.

Hard disagree. I followed the trial very closely. She is guilty.

I really do think people’s mindset rests on her looks an ethnicity. If Lucy Letby was a black woman or fat or unattractive, nobody would be protesting her innocence

Bullshit.
I couldn't care less about her ethnicity. I don't automatically claim that other white female prisoners are innocent on account of being white either.

In this case there was never strong enough evidence to support a conviction. Whatever the colour of the accused.

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:36

What a shame her legal team didn’t call them when she was tried. The only defence expert witness was a plumber.

It doesn't mean that the prosecution evidence was robust though,,,

TomatoSandwiches · 04/02/2025 21:37

Why do people on here not realise people are wrongly convicted? This does happen and thank goodness there are lines of recourse to help readress instances of the like.

thatsalad · 04/02/2025 21:37

Well, well, well. Funny how if you dared to say on mumsnet that she might be a scapegoat for a negligent hospital, you were told you only think that because she is white and blonde, but now people are slowly changing their tune.

Zanatdy · 04/02/2025 21:37

I have never been convinced, I mean how could a jury be convinced beyond all reasonable doubt? These so called medical experts, turn out not to be so expert after all. I hope that this is taken seriously, and i’m glad this doctor has stood up and told the world his paper in which the whole murder charge was based on, was misinterpreted. So many medical people, so many in stats who have said this is an unsafe conviction. My heart goes out to the family, they deserve to know the truth.

Kdubs1981 · 04/02/2025 21:37

I see the conspiracy theory but age are out in force.

Your only thoughts, even if Lucy is innocent? Because for someone to be languishing in prison for their entire life for something they didn't do is surely worth a bit of thought?

She isn’t innocent. I find it bizarre how much people are ant her to be

VanCleefArpels · 04/02/2025 21:38

Haven’t read the whole thread (yet) so apologies if this has been raised but….

There was a spike in deaths entirely congruent with LL working pattern. If those deaths were all actually caused by deficiencies in care practices in the hospital (with no evidence that those practices have changed / improved) why have there been no deaths since LL was arrested?

Smallsalt · 04/02/2025 21:38

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 21:12

There was enough evidence to require a nine month trial to consider it. I personally am astonished that anyone can seriously question her guilt.

So the experts speaking today are what? Hallucinating? lying?

Numsmetposter · 04/02/2025 21:38

I watched the press conference on sky news YouTube and was astonished. I didn't think there was much doubt.

14 neonatal experts, mainly professors. I was just expecting a half baked discussion of circumstantial evidence.

Instead they've done detailed systematic reviews of the deaths and found medical causes or shoddy care for each.

They seem utterly convinced these great experts from around the world, I'd urge anyone to watch the conference, it's unbelievable.

Barbie222 · 04/02/2025 21:38

If all this evidence was available at the time, why didn't her defence team call it?

This is why. They had plenty of experts lined up. The problem was that once Letby herself had given evidence, the picture looked so bad that Myers stood to lose more if he called them (because their case wouldn't stand up to cross examination) than he stood to gain by calling them.

The lawyer working with Letby now knows he has no hope of appealing through legal routes. So he's looking to get his five minutes in the court of public opinion - this is all oxygen for his next case!

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:39

Were you on the jury? Are you a medical expert?

Sorry I don't understand your point. Are you arguing the evidence was not circumstantial?

Fawn87 · 04/02/2025 21:39

Almostwelsh · 04/02/2025 21:09

LL isn't particularly attractive, I don't think that's a factor.

No she's plain, but she's a young female who looks nice and "normal", not an individual with a crazed look in their eyes or eccentric and so people find it hard to accept.

My thoughts exactly. It wasn't over in a week.

FrannyScraps · 04/02/2025 21:39

ChanelBoucle · 04/02/2025 21:29

I’ve always suspected that she’s a mentally unwell woman who was gaslighted by a corrupt organisation into believing herself to be guilty so that they could hang the blame on her as a convenient scapegoat for negligence and malpractice. Just a hunch, and not one I’ve spouted about much because I haven’t got any actual evidence. But the findings today are interesting and align with my suspicions.

It also worries me that juries are made up of literally anyone including the fallible, the gullible and sometimes quite unintelligent, who might feel pressurised into giving verdicts they may not truly agree with as individuals. You only have to watch The Traitors to see herd mentality in action.

Reese Witherspoon was telling a story how when she did jury duty, the other jurors nominated her as the foreperson because she 'went to law school'. They couldn't differentiate between her and a character she played!

Smallsalt · 04/02/2025 21:38

Not experts enough to be called by a top defence team to give evidence as expert witnesses.

Agree, I do think she is guilty, however I strongly disagree with your statement that if she was fat, unattractive or black that nobody would be protesting her innocence. BS.
People need to stop bringing race, colour and fat shaming into every Goddamn subject, it’s getting so bloody tiresome

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:40

Some of the scepticism is from the medical community's own self-serving interests about litigation and litigious processes in general. Doctors are just worried they could be accused of murder next. That's the real reason why it's under so much scrutiny now. It's not about this trial anymore but the wider implications of it.

I agree that there is definitely an element of this & why the case is under so much scrutiny as opposed to because she's blonde.

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:41

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:39

Circumstantial evidence is still evidence.

YouveGotAFastCar · 04/02/2025 21:42

I’m struggling to believe that 14 babies that LL was linked with all died of natural causes.

But that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:43

I know one of the barristers on the case and he has told me there is absolutely no chance that she is innocent

Well that's that then

Because the ward stopped caring for very premature babies altogether after lucy letby

Not to pile onto you but I also think that she has been treated as a minority has tbh

Shes unpopular, in society and work and has a history of being bullied. Shes been prosecuted and sent to prison on little evidence. This is exactly how you'd expect a minority to be treated

And tbh, if a minority was being scapegoated like this, the uproar would've been louder - we may still be in the same position or we may not

bakebeans · 04/02/2025 21:44

Always thought so. When you read the trial notes. Paeophiles and murderers got away with more despite more concrete evidence and fingerprints.
the courts clearly wanted to give the families their day. Very wrong. All circumstancial!

Briannaco · 04/02/2025 21:44

Why was she looking at parents of the dead babies facebook pages?

I thought that was very odd
