Lucy Letby.....she might actually be innocent?!

I have just watched the full press conference and I'm blown away. There seems to be no actual evidence AT ALL that she killed or injured those babies. This could be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice there has ever been in this country.

Was she on Legal Aid? It sounds like her defence didn't do what they should have

i don't get why anyone is on about her looks

i remember Louise Woodward. Public want to blame someone in these situations

reading how babies are treated in that hospital is scary.

Edited

She had a top QC, reckoned to be one of the best in the country.

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:27

My only thoughts today are with the parents who never got to see their babies grow up, or are looking after severely disabled children. We need to not forget about these people.

Almostwelsh · 04/02/2025 21:28

I suspect the interest in the safety of her conviction is more to do with the publics growing mistrust of the NHS and authorities generally especially since COVID than it is to do with LL herself, her race, looks or sex.

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:28

TomatoSandwiches · 04/02/2025 21:20

And as for the assumption people have a bias because she's a white female, sorry but everything I've learned about LL makes her quite an unlikable person to me, but being unlikable doesn't make you a serial baby killer.

You don’t know wether she’s unlikable just by looking at her

Obscurial · 04/02/2025 21:28

They were not confession notes. She was advised to offload in this way, and the things she wrote were to be entirely expected given the pressure she was under. It was always highly dubious that these were used as evidence.

I’ve followed the case and felt there were too many inconsistencies. I couldn’t understand how a guilty verdict was reached.

Whatever happens now I hope that things can be handled sensitively for the sake of the families involved, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.

As for LL, if she’s innocent I hope that she can find some peace.

ChanelBoucle · 04/02/2025 21:29

I’ve always suspected that she’s a mentally unwell woman who was gaslighted by a corrupt organisation into believing herself to be guilty so that they could hang the blame on her as a convenient scapegoat for negligence and malpractice. Just a hunch, and not one I’ve spouted about much because I haven’t got any actual evidence. But the findings today are interesting and align with my suspicions.

It also worries me that juries are made up of literally anyone including the fallible, the gullible and sometimes quite unintelligent, who might feel pressurised into giving verdicts they may not truly agree with as individuals. You only have to watch The Traitors to see herd mentality in action.

She had a very good defence barrister with a great track record

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:29

All a jury can do is look at the evidence and arrive at a conclusion. If the evidence is insubstantial then a miscarriage of justice has taken place.

This is all that matters

This.

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:31

But to have followed via the media like the rest of us frankly isn’t following the trial closely

Agree, I haven't followed it that much. Assumed she was guilty & don't know if she is or not but evidence has to be robust.

PinacoladaV · 04/02/2025 21:31

Where can I watch this please?

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 21:31

Snorlaxo · 04/02/2025 21:10

Being female helps too. A man would be assumed guilty

I think she is probably guilty but I agree with this and also I can imagine the vitriol aimed at any poster on a forum like this who would dare say a male nurse in the same circumstances was innocent and wrongly convicted, it would all be full of references to the patriarchy and handmaidens etc etc

Your only thoughts, even if Lucy is innocent? Because for someone to be languishing in prison for their entire life for something they didn't do is surely worth a bit of thought?

Hard disagree. I followed the trial very closely. She is guilty.

I really do think people’s mindset rests on her looks an ethnicity. If Lucy Letby was a black woman or fat or unattractive, nobody would be protesting her innocence

harsh.
then ridiculous.
IF Lucy Letby was beyond reasonable doubt guilty-NOBODY would protest her innocence. With respect, you closely followed a trial concluded from the info provided. refusing to look at facts wont change them. Incidentally i have no opinion re letby.

I have never done jury service and hope I never have to but a couple of people I know have. Of course neither of them discussed anything about the cases but both of them had some interesting things to say about the process and some of their fellow jurors.

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:33

It is amazing how people who watched and listened to the same trial can come to completely opposite conclusions

I think many fail to grasp that if you listened to the defence you will believe someone is innocent and likewise the prosecution will convince you of guilt. But there has to be evidence beyond reasonable doubt...

It's on youtube, I searched "Lucy Letby press conference" it's about 2 hours long

Posters on here keep saying this like it’s some kind of ‘gotcha’. Whether anyone is ‘protesting her innocence’ or not on Mn or on SM and whether or not it’s because of her being white and young, is completely irrelevant to the legal process. Hopefully the new medical testimonies get the case re-examined. The problems with the statistics and medical evidence alone make this conviction unsafe.

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 21:34

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 21:18

What a shame her legal team didn’t call them when she was tried. The only defence expert witness was a plumber.

This is what I dont get, if this is the defence where was it when the trial took place?

LivelyScroller · 04/02/2025 21:34

New here , definitely think she is innocent , Private Eye have been excellent on this as well

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/02/2025 21:35

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:10

Well it subjective but it’s safe to say She’s conventionally attractive: slim white and blonde. These women are just perceived differently

Don’t be ridiculous.

Granted I'm not ex bezzie mates with LL or anyone she knows, I've made that assessment based on what I've read of her not by the look of her.

Peonywistera · 04/02/2025 21:35

I know one of the barristers on the case and he has told me there is absolutely no chance that she is innocent

FrannyScraps · 04/02/2025 21:36

TheFormidableMrsC · 04/02/2025 21:19

Just came to say this. That's hard to disregard.

Except context is everything.

The notes were from an exercise that her therapist set her after her arrest- not to write what she did, but to write down her worst fears etc.

RudbekiasAreSun · 04/02/2025 21:36

tbh no one on here knows the truth....the fact the murders went unreported for very long time means someone tried to have her back - all this is not the making of armchairs detectives...I studied law and law in the UK in my country has always been venerated as being the oldest and most serious juidicial system in the world...surely they know a thing
