Lucy Letby.....she might actually be innocent?!

I have just watched the full press conference and I'm blown away. There seems to be no actual evidence AT ALL that she killed or injured those babies. This could be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice there has ever been in this country.

Hard disagree. I followed the trial very closely. She is guilty.

I really do think people’s mindset rests on her looks an ethnicity. If Lucy Letby was a black woman or fat or unattractive, nobody would be protesting her innocence

I followed it closely too. I've also served on a different jury and remeber the judge being explicit that if there was any reasonable doubt, then we had no choice but to return a not guilty verdict.

There was reasonable doubt in this case.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 04/02/2025 21:17

The original trial for this left me feeling very uncomfortable,. Not saying I categorically think she's innocent but from the 'evidence' I wasn't wholly convinced she was guilty either.
The pretty white woman bullshit doesn't wash either as she is decidedly average.

14 extremely highly qualified neonatal experts questioned it and have done an extremely thorough report saying there is absolutely no evidence to say these babies were murdered. I'm not questioning this off my own back.

What a shame her legal team didn’t call them when she was tried. The only defence expert witness was a plumber.

scrumble767 · 04/02/2025 21:18

There was never any actual evidence other than circumstantial evidence. Eg she was on duty when this happened, she wrote weird stuff in a diary. The prosecution team persuaded the jury to convict.
I think she will probably be allowed to appeal.

I have always been convinced she did it all. But as the months have gone by (along with tonight's news items on her,) I am really questioning her conviction now.

IMAGINE if there is a retrial, and she is found to be innocent after all! 😱

!

"It’s a hard disagree from me. There were A LOT of red flags in her behaviour which indicate she is guilty IMO"

behaviour isn't evidence

Actually it is

LOL!!!

No to this comment! NO NO NO

BoldBlueZebra · 04/02/2025 21:19

i thought on the balance of probability she was guilty from the trial but after the trip I’ve read so much more and that made me question the evidence and today I was completely blown away by the panel statements. Her guilt or innocence is almost irrelevant at this point the whole investigative system and judicial process has been thrown into question

DarkForces · 04/02/2025 21:19

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 21:12

There was enough evidence to require a nine month trial to consider it. I personally am astonished that anyone can seriously question her guilt.

Just think of all the millions we could have saved with if we replaced the justice system with a quick press conference and aibu vote on mumsnet.

Harrietparker · 04/02/2025 21:16

Did she not have confession notes at her home?

Just came to say this. That's hard to disregard.

TomatoSandwiches · 04/02/2025 21:20

And as for the assumption people have a bias because she's a white female, sorry but everything I've learned about LL makes her quite an unlikable person to me, but being unlikable doesn't make you a serial baby killer.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 04/02/2025 21:20

It's gonna be great to see the public change their opinions but its also gonna really piss me off tbh - like why was she put through that in the first place

Then there'll be enquiries and promises and it's just never gonna end or change anything

It's a miracle Lucy is still alive, I know i couldn't have survived this.

What an utterly ridiculous comment. Have a word with yourself FFS! Hmm

From different places around the world. Some approaches are not globally standardised and treatments can vary so there will always be arguments that treatment was/wasn’t appropriate in certain cases. One expert was interested in the case after a paper he wrote was used as part of the defense, so he has something to gain from it.

What is inherently 'unlikeable' about her? (Apart from the fact she killed lots of babies - if she actually did!)

wipeywipe · 04/02/2025 21:11

The whole point is the evidence isn't sound.

Were you on the jury? Are you a medical expert?

TomatoSandwiches · 04/02/2025 21:23

If LL is found to be innocent we will have two huge miscarriages of justice to deal with, the parents of the deceased children still deserve to know why and how their children died.

Biffbaff · 04/02/2025 21:24

She's been found guilty twice. I agree with a PP that if she were male, old and ugly she'd have been left to rot by now. Those poor families are going to be in bits seeing her face pop up all the time because people can't seem to believe "nice Lucy" would be capable of such a thing.

Some of the scepticism is from the medical community's own self-serving interests about litigation and litigious processes in general. Doctors are just worried they could be accused of murder next. That's the real reason why it's under so much scrutiny now. It's not about this trial anymore but the wider implications of it.

RockStarMartini · 04/02/2025 21:24

I haven’t followed the case closely but I disagree that a man would be more likely to be assumed guilty and that being a woman ‘helps’ her - we still expect women to be maternal and ‘soft’ to an extent so that fact that she may have been the opposite makes it much more shocking.

JandamiHash · 04/02/2025 21:25

BIossomtoes · 04/02/2025 21:18

Yes where were these experts when her (very good) defence team were calling expert witnesses?

RoundandSad · 04/02/2025 21:25

Was she on Legal Aid? It sounds like her defence didn't do what they should have

i don't get why anyone is on about her looks

i remember Louise Woodward. Public want to blame someone in these situations

reading how babies are treated in that hospital is scary.

To me she comes across as a slightly pathetic figure around her romantic life and immature for her age.

I'm of the beliefe that some people give this vibe off and are targeted because of it.

Wrong. There was enough evidence to warrant a 9 month trial

Moonlightstars · 04/02/2025 21:25

Those poor poor parents. Whether guilty or not having to go through it all again or even the thought they might.
