OP as you have locked your car door and you haven’t been out again, your keys are definitely between your car and your house or definitely inside your house ,so really try and stop panicking easier said than done .
Has your 6 year old put them somewhere amongst toys ?!I have lost my keys numerous times and they have eventually turned up .
My son had put them in a sit down toy ,under the lid and another time in dolls pram !
Absolutely everything crossed for you and just ignore the unhelpful comments!

NoSourDough · 02/02/2025 18:40

OP, sorry if I missed this - do you have a partner, or someone that has popped into your house and accidentally picked them up over the last 24 hours thinking they were their keys?

Oneflewovermycarsbed · 02/02/2025 18:44

Stravaig · 02/02/2025 16:25

OP, when you find or replace the key, please, please don't get behind the wheel and drive until you can string a clear, coherent sentence together 🤣.

Nasty and unnecessary, what is your problem?

Overthebow · 02/02/2025 18:44

Bagladygirl · 02/02/2025 17:00

Yes I had 2 keys but lost the spare perhaps being 'scarily dizzy' or having ADHD and stressed to the hilt

If you’ve lost the spare set you’re going to have to pay for a new set of those too when your lease ends, you’ll need to give back two sets of keys.

GoodMorningMissBliss · 02/02/2025 18:48

OP, I too have a keyless entry car and lost my key. I checked everywhere, but also thought that you can’t lock the car without the key. Turns out they had fallen out of my pocket as I got out of the car and were wedged between the driver seat and door. I think they must have been far enough away from some sensor to let me lock the car by touching the door handle as usual. Anyway, it wouldn’t let me unlock the door but I managed to get the boot opened by pressing the button as usual. That then opened the whole car so I could retrieve them.

I’ve also done this on another keyless entry car that had a user app, so managed to unlock the car via the app. I have since stopped putting my keys in my pocket and now put them in my bag as I leave the car. Do you have an app you could open the car with to check if they are inside it?

GoodMorningMissBliss · 02/02/2025 18:49

Also, if it’s via your company car scheme check with them as you might not have to pay for a new key if you haven’t had other claims. I think we get 2 claims before we have to pay anything.

Mom6toomany · 02/02/2025 18:51

Oh dear I really feel for you, huge hugs! I have ADHD and loose my keys daily, my poor husband and kids who are always on the hunt.

have you tried the toaster? Mine have slipped in there, the fridge? My dressing gown pocket, inside dirty wash baskets, washing machine/tumble dryer? Dishwasher? You’ve mentioned bin, but have you checked all the bins? Local Facebook groups in case you have dropped them outside your house and some ‘unhelpful’ person has picked them up and is now offering up some found keys.

Also check inside saucepans, inside any shopping bags you have used and since put away. I know you have said you have checked everywhere but sometimes I’ve been known to be looking for something and its been sat on the coffee table/hall stairs/inside my handbag the whole time but I’m just so stressed I’m blind and can’t focus enough to see it.

good luck!

saraclara · 02/02/2025 18:57

Did you go up to the bathroom, or to a bedroom when you can't home last time?
Last time I had a key panic I found them on the washing basket on the landing where is absent mindedly put them down when I rushed to the loo.

DreamW3aver · 02/02/2025 19:00

Just keep looking, doesn't matter if you've looked in that place before. Theres often a type of blindness that stops you seeing.

Tip out all your handbags and pockets, check clothes waiting to be washed

Bagladygirl · 02/02/2025 17:03

I thought they were in my bag or on the kitchen side but I have gone through all the sides the bins etc and they are not there

I only realised when I went to go to shops this morning

When did you last drive your car? I assume your house keys are separate?

Trixiefirecracker · 02/02/2025 19:01

My go to to is to ask St. Anthony for help. I’m not even religious but always seems to work! 😂

Anonymous64748276117 · 02/02/2025 19:04

Down the back of a radiator? Put away in a drawer with your clean washing? In the fridge? Underneath a pile of clothes or in a kitchen cupboard? Downstairs loo?

Bereftandalone · 02/02/2025 19:05

My previous keyless car allowed you to lock the keys inside of it, so don't rule that out. Good luck.

Thinkcritically · 02/02/2025 19:07

Please. It doesn’t , it doesn’t, it can’t.

Thinkcritically · 02/02/2025 19:08

Sorry, @Trixiefirecracker

Bobbybobbins · 02/02/2025 19:09

I thought I had misplaced our back door key and turned the house upside down. What had actually happened was that my autistic son had taken it and it was all bundled up in a blanket he likes to snuggle in. So I would definitely consider if your child or dog has misplaced it. Good luck OP

Mycatsasuperstar · 02/02/2025 19:14

Check if there's a hole in your bag lining or coat lining.... I have lost things like that only to find it under the lining

Yes, this is a good suggestion. Has anyone been in your house OP? My DH once took his mums car keys home by mistake. He just picked them up and put them in his pocket whilst walking out of the door without thinking.

ImTheMidsomerMurderer · 02/02/2025 19:42

@Bagladygirl I'm really hoping you've found them by now, but if not, like a couple of other pp, ask St Anthony, you have nothing to lose! I always do this and I am in no way religious.
Have you checked:
Under the beds.
The grass outside.
Under the car.
Under the sofas.
Kitchen cupboards / fridge.
Washing machine/ tumble dryer.
EVERY pocket in the house.
DC School bag.

Hope you find them soon 🙏🏻

Really excellent point - have you tried opening the boot?

I know that with my car if the keys are in the car, the boot can be unlocked.

Worth a try?

Shouldbedoing · 02/02/2025 19:54

Could you have kicked it under the sofa/bed/furniture?

Bagladygirl · 02/02/2025 20:00

Friartruckster · 02/02/2025 18:17

Oh no! Where’s op? I’m strangely invested in the keys being found and being told where. I hope op hasn’t let her ADHD get the better of her - found the keys and just flowed into the next task not realising we need an update 🧐

i wish I had found them. Just been searching I have checked absolutely everywhere I just can't think of anywhere else to check I have done outhouse, kitchen cupboards, fridge, dishwasher, pantry. Living room drawers, sofa out cushions off (I have found my lost bank card there though) shoe drawers, torche on underneath the sofa and drawers, window sills
checked bathroom in my baskets and on shelves, my room drawers on top of wardrobe in wardrobe in my cupboard I never go in. Bed out sheets and everything off and then remade, dirty washing where I had out all fridays clothes in the pockets, down back of drawers. dc's room in drawers etc I even checked inside my vase in the hallway

just wish I had got a air tracker when I last thought I should

I have prayed and said all the prayers and asked politely lol

thanks I have done the garden twice but it's quite big I can't imagine they would have as they have never picked them up before but they did take my watch one time

How long after you ask does it come about ?
I am now I. Bed in going to get up at 6am and walk through house methodically and look again one last time
