you might want to check in the lining of the handbag? Once I thought I’ve lost my keys only to find out my bag lining had a hole and my keys where in there!

Buzzardbird · 03/02/2025 19:36

Dog's bed
Anywhere that DC might have decided to 'post them'

Our spare car keys were missing for a good year , they'd fallen down the back of a radiator .

We lost a tv remote for ages and bought a new one , then found it in a toy handbag , dd1 had hidden it from dd2 so she could control the television .

For goodness sake you can't not work because you've lost your car keys.

If you have zero available credit, ask your work for an emergency loan to come off your next wage bill. It's very commonly done, no need for embarrassment. If it's a place that offers benefits like company cars it is highly likely to either they already have an emergency loan policy or be able to do this for you.

Everywhere I have worked - big, small, public sector, private & charities, has had policies like this and they are taken up quite often (I currently work with payroll and see it happen all the time).

I lost mine in a box of cakes once… took a treat to work and popped my keys in the bag. I walked all the way home and bag heavily pregnant looking for them. I cried to my neighbour and all sorts. Felt like a right idiot

So you're just using St Anthony when you need him? 😂

Seeing as he's the Patron Saint of lost things, yes. That would make sense!

Flozle · 03/02/2025 20:43

My sister found hers hanging on a rose bush by the front door, months after she'd lost them. It appears one of her children had hung them there.

L0bstersLass · 03/02/2025 21:03

Are they hanging on the end of the towel-rail in the downstairs loo?
I found mine there after thinking I was going crazy one morning.
I'd unlocked the house and my car and put my work- bag in the boot.

I'd gone back to the house, picked up my phone, lipstick and purse and was on the way back to the car when I decided to use the loo.
All done, I couldn't find my keys to lock the house. I looked in the car. Not there.
I'd had them merely moments earlier.

Turns out that when I'd popped to the loo, I'd put my phone, lipstick and purse on the radiator in the loo and for reasons unknown hung the car keys off the towel rail.

It took me 30 mintues to find them.
I thought I was going mad.

OP - you said you got changed into your pyjamas when you got home. Are the keys in the place you keep your pjs? In a drawer where you put your clothes away? In the laundry basket?

ohwhatadustyanswer · 03/02/2025 22:23

Dressing gown pocket? This is where everything serious I’ve ever lost has turned up.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 03/02/2025 23:36

While we’re at it, anyone know where my sapphire and diamond ring is? Last seen near a toddler 18 months ago

Yes my lost driving licence was there, found after buying a new one.

Goodtogossip · 04/02/2025 10:02

Have you asked your DC if they have seen/moved them? If you went straight to their room then chances are you've put them down in there. Check DC room in case they've put them somewhere. Under bed/drawers etc wardrobe if you've put clothes away. In the bed itself in case you've put them on the covers & DC has climbed into bed & they've fell inside.

I'm still looking for bracelet charms I bought for Christmas presents that I put in a safe place. I've no idea where they are & keep re looking in places I've already checked hoping they might suddenly appear. It's so frustrating losing things

jinyjo · 04/02/2025 21:29

you say you went straight to your DC room, no doubt already checked in there but walk through the room doing what you did and relook. Then changed into your pjs, check the clothes you were wearing, I've found keys in jeans pockets of yesterdays clothes quite often

AtomicBlondeRose · 07/02/2025 20:22

Did you ever find it OP?

Zanina · 07/02/2025 20:35

Shamelessly placemarking. I hope you found your keys. I imagine the dogs taken off with it somewhere. Sounds daft but check behind the radiators as well x
