Can you pay for them and she pay you back later?

HerbieFluffyDumpling · 02/02/2025 17:06

The first thing I would say is to try and calm down, as I can never find anything when I'm stressed.

Could you have dropped them outside? You wouldn't have heard them if they'd fallen on soft ground.

Have you looked in any bags or anything you brought in with you?

Could your DC have picked them up? Could they be in their coat pocket, hood or sleeve even?

Have you looked behind cushions, throws, etc, under the table, on a chair, sofa, shelf, mantel?

Did you go to the loo when you got in, or go straight upstairs?

I've found mine in the laundry basket, peg bag, shed, fridge and cupboard before now! Also, the letterbox and shapesorter when the DC were young!

They must be at home somewhere, so they will turn up. I quite often find things when I'm looking for something else!

Good luck!

Spurber · 02/02/2025 17:07

Try under the sofa cushions

Ontobetterthings · 02/02/2025 17:08

Have you asked saint michael? Missing things always turn up when you ask him where it is.

CovertPiggery · 02/02/2025 17:09

Ignore the arsehole posts OP. Some people on here just love to make spiteful jibes at people.

I hope you find them soon.

growinganotherhead · 02/02/2025 17:10

I don't know if you have already looked but I lost my purse with all my cards, keys attached. Searched the house, garden, shed, nothing.
Two days later, after ordering new cards and getting my spare keys cut again, I went into the freezer and found them.
Apparently I had the purse still in my hand when I put the food into the freezer.

strangeandfamiliar · 02/02/2025 17:11

Are you sure the car's actually locked and the key isn't still in it somewhere? I did this a few times when I first got my EV as it's a button-press to start, so I'd put the key in the cupholder and leave it there when I got out...

Delphiniumandlupins · 02/02/2025 17:11

I found my keys in the peg bag once. Only then did I remember coming home as it was starting to rain and rushing to get washing in (I never take front door keys into the back garden so never thought to look there).

Cleaningismycardio · 02/02/2025 17:12

OP if anyone has been in your house since you last drove ask them to check their bags, pockets etc. I once lost my car key. I always put it on the hall table...my friend found it in her child's swim bag a week later! I think she knocked it off the side and into the bag when she swung her coat round to put it on. I now always keep it in a drawer. Good luck.

strangeandfamiliar · 02/02/2025 17:12

Oops, I see that possibility's already been ruled out

Bromptotoo · 02/02/2025 17:12

Check the ignition's a good shout.

We were away just before Xmas and, having got to our room I realised I'd not got my key for the car.

We'd had a mare with my IBS between car park and hotel and I was concerned they'd fallen out of my pocket while communing with nature.

Turned out I'd bailed out of the car leaving my key in the ignition and DP had locked it with her plip.

HellofromJohnCraven · 02/02/2025 17:12

Oh love, I think we are the same person.
I know it sounds stupid but stop looking for half an hour. Last time I lost mine I stopped for an hour. It then occurred to me that the last time I had them, I had a fleece on, then coat on top. So they were in the fleece pocket, not the coat. My brain persistently told me I had my coat on.
For me, stopping frantically searching resets my brain a bit.

Likewhatever · 02/02/2025 17:13

Could you claim under your Home (as opposed to car) insurance OP? They will tell you over the phone if you’re covered.

Could you make a reward game out of searching eith your 6 yr old, in case she has seen or moved them?

DD lost her car keys and found them outside the neighbours house, she thinks she must have accidentally kicked them as she dropped them, so might be worth searching a wider area.

Have you has a really good feel of the lining of your clothes and bags? Keys will find gtheir way through the tiniest of holes.

DingDongAlong · 02/02/2025 17:16

Sit down, make a cuppa and think through exactly what you did when you last used the keys. Take it really slowly and calmly. Usually I've put them down somewhere out of routine.... so I've popped things on the washing machine on my way to the loo, rather than putting the keys in the dish by the door.

I have left the keys in the car by mistake (ours is keyless and I have forgotten to pick them up). Can you look through the window of the car and see if they're still inside.

I'd definitely suggest getting a key hook or key dish, especially if you have ADHD.

Foyerstaff · 02/02/2025 17:18

They have to be in your home.

So lock it down. Nothing in or out til found.

Firstly go through the bin.

Then retrace your steps.

This is me ALL the time.

now have an air tag and tile - still play dangerously by sometimes letting batteries run out on them!

TidyLion · 02/02/2025 17:18

Coat pocket - and coat lining if there any holes in your pockets? Or in a boot/shoe you were wearing when you last used the car.

Bathroom? In case you rushed in and went straight in there?

SomethingWycked · 02/02/2025 17:21

Is the key attached to your house key?

Places we have found keys:
Inner lining of coat (small hole in pocket)
Down the back of sofa
In the laundry basket
Under the bed (presumed fallen out of pocket of jacket hung over the bedstead)

Sending you good luck vibes

intheaviary · 02/02/2025 17:22

Dressing gown pockets

TidyLion · 02/02/2025 17:23

I think the idea upthread of making finding them into a game with your DC is genius! 9 time out of ten when mine were little they’d have posted them somewhere.

(Now it’s still them moving things but just because they’re absent minded teens 😆)

Christmassoxs · 02/02/2025 17:25

Stravaig · 02/02/2025 16:25

OP, when you find or replace the key, please, please don't get behind the wheel and drive until you can string a clear, coherent sentence together 🤣.

Heck there are some moronic remarks on this thread. Op is panicking and worried and all that some of you can come up with is shite like this.

Bumcake · 02/02/2025 17:28

Spurber · 02/02/2025 17:05

Can you pay for them and she pay you back later?

Who?

I recently found my house keys in my bag, just where I’d looked no less than six times before. It’s baffling.

Christmassoxs · 02/02/2025 17:29

Wtaf who actually thinks OP is bu for panicking about her lost keys? The bitches really have got the knives out. I feel sorry for you OP, so many arseholes on this thread.

itsgettingweird · 02/02/2025 17:31

Do any of your pockets you may have put them in have holes?

My lost keys were in the lining of my coat once 🙄

Another set that were in the car with ds and he managed to drop them never ever materialised 🤔 That one was the biggest mystery ever!

Notquitegrownup2 · 02/02/2025 17:32

When I lose my keys it's because I've broken my routine: I've walked in the house but instead of putting my keys in the pot, I popped to the loo and put them on the shelf outside the lio, or I've answered the phone/fed the cat etc and put the keys down there.

So I'd check to see if they are hiding in plain sight - on a kitchen counter or a shelf by other stuff. Good luck

MinkaLeDinka · 02/02/2025 17:34
