I’ve found 3 lost sets of keys -

in the dishwasher
in a boot in the shoe cupboard
in a bag I’d swapped it out for

Really nice you try being a a single parent of a young child with a disability with no one to help then see how great you perform

I really wasn't having a go, you're being hilariously dizzy (or scarily given it's about driving a car). Calm down and breathe, so you can think logically, communicate clearly, and help us to help you. We've all been in blind panics, which is why we're smiling in recognition and patiently untangling you.

Themaths · 02/02/2025 16:53

Clothes horse, window sills, in a cup in the cupboard? Hope you find them, nightmare. Can anyone help you with driving you this week if you can't find them?

Justwingingit2005 · 02/02/2025 16:55

Did you not get two keys when you had the car delivered?
When DHs SS was delivered we were given two keys in the manual.
If you have the spare key or your work has the spare the replacement key could be done at a key cutters alot cheaper.

Cherry8809 · 02/02/2025 16:55

I thought I’d lost my keys once but I’d actually left them in the front door when I was unlocking it…

Randomusername37258 · 02/02/2025 16:57

Whenever I've lost a key they've been in a set of pockets or on a random side where I've put them down to do something else. The windowsill in the loo is a favourite.

For future reference, you can get spare keys made for about £100 on most cars and it is well worth it if you're a regular key loser (this is the voice of experience).

I am getting an air tag and a spare set as soon as I can

Sit quietly, try to be calm and mentally retrace your steps. Did you definitely lock the car? Could they still be in the car? Is your car key on the same keyring as your house keys? If so, are they still in the house door? Not sure how old your child is, but could they have played with them and put them in their toy box? Dolls house? Pram? Did you bring shopping in? Did you put things away, could they be in a shopping bag that you think you emptied? A different pocket in your handbag or coat? I've searched in my handbag several time and then lo and behold they are actually in there... Good luck!

Yes I had 2 keys but lost the spare perhaps being 'scarily dizzy' or having ADHD and stressed to the hilt

front door step
back garden
fruit bowl
by the side of the loo / sink(s)
in kids bedroom / by their bed / on their windowsill(s)
kitchen drawer
fridge

my starters for 10.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 02/02/2025 17:00

Very stressful.

When do you need to use the car next?

I would stop looking, stop thinking about it (really hard I know but maybe hum a song), have a cup of tea and have a complete break from your meltdown. Meditate if you can.

Afterwards order a new key and then retrace your steps from when you last had it. Don’t show fear else it won’t come out!

Alternatively pray to St Anthony or Elvis depending on your preference.

Good luck.

Jonjojulie · 02/02/2025 17:01

I find that lost things are often where I thought they were, I just didn't see it for some reason when I first looked.

Before you first realised they were missing, where did you think they were? Go back and have a much more thorough look there .... good luck!

Yes the car is locked snd I went and checked by it just in case. You can't lock them in as it's a keyless car

i have searched handbag multiple times it's really small and so it's def not there I usually hang up put on stairs or put on the drawer

Check the hoods on everyone's coats (I managed that once).

NamechangeRugby · 02/02/2025 17:02

What age is your child?

My DS aged less that 2 had an absolute fascination with keys to the point where he would take them and put them random 'safe' places. Maybe check with your little one if they have any idea where it might be, even if they are only just mobile and can't talk (yes, this did happen to me, just about to go out the door to go to work, then spent morning frantically looking as I couldn't lock up)

Check bin, in laundry, in all possible bags & pockets. And are you sure you haven't just left them in the car?

I thought they were in my bag or on the kitchen side but I have gone through all the sides the bins etc and they are not there

I only realised when I went to go to shops this morning

I am wondering if my dog has carried them somewhere but I have scoured the garden I actually can't think of anything or anywhere I haven't checked

Check your car insurance. Mine covers lost keys.

And check pockets of everything you’ve worn , coats, jackets. I found my missing specs in a coat pocket yesterday.

Did you definitely use that bag?

What were you wearing?
Coat pockets? Trouser pocket?

Redrosesposies · 02/02/2025 17:05

When did you last have them and what were you carrying when you did?
