To be really glad I don't live in America right now

AnonymousBleep · 31/01/2025 09:57

I really feel for ordinary Americans. It's bad enough on this side of the Channel, hearing daily about Trump's latest petty, spiteful, idiotic bullshit - that rant against the Bishop who asked him to have mercy on immigrants, the ridiculous and insulting attempt to blame 'diversity' for the plane crash - but living under it must be so much worse. And heaven help you if you're LGBT or a woman. Or an immigrant. Or not white. Or poor. Or anyone else Trump and his freakshow of a government despises. I moan about the UK all the time, like everyone else who lives here, because god knows it's far from perfect, but at least we don't have a government in charge who is trying to strip huge swathes of the population of their rights and citizenship.

So you want someone who has been raised a girl and thinks they are a girl to suddenly start using men's bathrooms? Seriously? That is what you want?
And stop referring to sports, this isn't about sports, this is about her normal daily life.

If that male doesn't go through female puberty, then they go through male puberty. And will have the large male body and frame. They may have mixed female genitals, but women will still clock their male frame, like Imane Khelif's. So, yes. They can be eased into it.

MeTooOverHere · 06/02/2025 22:22

Then you wonder why they suicide. If I were 15 and suddenly told I had to be a man henceforth, I'd be suicidal.

Oh don't use that emotional manipulation on us. There is no evidence the DSD community has a high level of suicide, let alone because they have to use their sexed toilets.

WillIEverBeOk · 07/02/2025 07:43

MeTooOverHere · 06/02/2025 22:25

What if they don't know their chromosomal and genital sexes are different? This is what we are talking about. Someone who doesn't know they are intersex.

And what's this BS about most PEOPLE in the west get sequenced nowadays it's not hard or expensive ? I don't know anyone who's been 'sequenced'.

They know with puberty, or the lack thereof. Are you seriously suggesting parents wouldn't take their daughter to the doctor if they hadn't had their period by 15, just to check nothings wrong?

MeTooOverHere · 06/02/2025 22:28

Imagine how horrible they would feel and what trauma they'd go through.

Yes, it wouldn't be nice. But what can we do about them finding out they are a different sex? We can't do anything to help that.

MeTooOverHere · 06/02/2025 22:29

And the teenage girl who has just been told her karyotype is XY?
Which toilet should she be using?

They will use the males as they will have internal testes and go through male puberty and have male frame like Khelif's. At the end of their teens their body will be demonstrably male, even if the young teenage one isn't that way.

Calling women 'cnts' is a vile and misogynistic habit I have noticed that anti-women/TRAs have. It just proves the movement is rooted in misogyny and hatred of women.

Agree there's been plenty of abuse aimed at women. Threats of violence and actual violence too.

If your friend has given birth and is a female then she's a woman.

I was using that word towards a man for a start. And for trying to ruin the life of a woman he deemed not attractive, for encouraging bullying of her teenage daughters, yes. I will use the strongest word I know.

Again. You support some women. Not all, so stop claiming otherwise.

No I support ALL women. So don't lie and misrepresent me.

You've repeatedly said you don't care about my "anecdote" which clearly shows you don't care about the abuse faced by my friend. You have repeatedly failed to actually read what I have written. You've accused me of being woman hating when you know NOTHING about me.

But you just sit there and froth on the internet and let the rest of actually make positive changes in the world.

I am not interested in discussing people's beliefs. I am talking about actual biology. Have a look at the example I gave you.

2 horses. Apparently female, who both raced as females (ie adult females) and only when tested did enough male hormone turn up to question that sex. Upon internal physical exam, it was found both were genuinely intersex and upon karyotyping were found to both be XY (male).

If they were human what would you say? Should they both have surgery to remove the female parts to appear male as per their karyotype? Or should they have surgery to remove the male parts to comply with their birth designation?

TRAs are always at their most hilarious during their forays into "science".

Totallymessed · 07/02/2025 08:20

MeTooOverHere · 05/02/2025 22:39

Intersex does exist, yes even in mammals. It is better known in invertebrates but definitely is a recognised phenomenon in mammals.
Intersex is a general term for an organism that has sex characteristics that are between male and female.
Have a good read. "each of these horses had won considerable amounts of money during their careers as putative mares"
"The referring veterinarian identified intersex conditions in these horses on the basis of physical examination findings. The combination of ambiguous external
genitalia, the apparent absence of a female reproductive tract on transrectal palpation of the abdomen, and the apparent presence of palpable internal testis-like structures led to the preliminary diagnosis of male pseudo-hermaphroditism in both horses."
https://www.vet.upenn.edu/docs/default-source/research/equine-behavior-laboratory/javma-intersex-2011.pdf?sfvrsn=6a38e0ba_0

Apologies, there's also these earlier horse (and invertebrate) related ponderings.

They won't. Their voters are all older people, and there's simply not the numbers to make that happen.

Seem to be a fair few of them on MN though.

Sadly not. My hairdresser voted for Reform - she can’t be any older than 30. Said she was sick of both major parties messing things up and that it’s time to give another party a chance.

I remember people used to vote Lib Dem or Green when they thought like this - but I know several women who won’t go near them because of their stance on gender.

But referencing your friend, I will say what happened to her was horrible. And you are a good friend to care. I hope those who harassed her had the book thrown at them. Stalking, harassment, the works. There is no excuse for what happened to your friend, that was horrible!

However you seem to use that to suggest we are wrong for wanting single sex spaces. You are blaming the wrong people. You should be blaming those who want males in female spaces for making women and girls on high alert, which is a natural response to males in our intimate single sex spaces - surely you would agree with that much at least. Its like throwing a fox into the hen house, then blaming the hens for squawking every time a fox goes near the hen house. Its natural for women now to be on high alert, but you're victim-blaming by saying we are wrong for our natural reaction. Most women who are questioned in the ladies, as soon as they speak it becomes apparent and then its 'ok, no worries'. Its really over and done with in a few seconds and not a big deal. And a few of these women who have been questioned have said they appreciate other women looking out for women and their spaces so don't take it personally. What happened to your friend is another matter entirely and I hope those responsible in someway paid for it?

There most definitely is Intersex, it is a biological phenomenon which has been documented in mammals including dogs, bears, horses, kangaroos and humans.

Intersex is another word for DSD. differences in sexual development

EVERYONE WITH A DSD IS EITHER MALE OR FEMALE

Repeat after me:

EVERYONE WITH A DSD IS EITHER MALE OR FEMALE

People with a Difference of Sexual Development (DSD) are still categorized as male or female based on their chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomical sex, though their bodies may not fit typical definitions of male or female. A DSD refers to a variety of conditions where an individual’s sexual development is atypical, but their sex is still typically recognized as male or female based on their physical characteristics or genetic factors. It’s important to note that while a DSD can cause variations in sex characteristics, it does not change the fundamental male or female classification of an individual. However, the complexity of these conditions highlights the diversity of human biology.

She would not have a penis or testicles.

A lack of penis and testicles does not make you female.

What are you so hard of thinking?

SernieBanders · 07/02/2025 09:22

Every single well researched, high quality study finds this to be entirely false

Gender affirming care makes no difference to mental health and does not reduce suicide.

Yeah so send the young woman into a men's room. Do you think the men will see her as a man?

It does not matter.

Males in the mens room

Females in the ladies.

Done.

He won the election by a vast majority, so you can’t with that.

At least he’s behind America, unlike the idiotic government we’ve got in the UK, who lets its own people sleep on the streets and sends billions of aid to other nations, when it’s own country is on its knees.

StandFirm · 07/02/2025 09:33

Can we stop arguing about gender? Women's rights - the most basic ones- and the most basic rights of minorities, and frankly everyone's, are at serious risk. The very concept of democracy is at risk in the country that used to call itself the leader of the free world. Heck, soon we won't have a free world at all.
This argument about who goes to piss where is a bit like arguing about running out of ice cubes when the kitchen is on fire.

Indeed. There's been plenty of research that has found the claims to be false.

Professor Louis Appleby -basically the UK's leading expert in suicide prevention - was so concerned about the lies being spread and the potential risks to vulnerable young people, that he publicly stated:

"The way this issue has been discussed on social media has been insensitive, distressing and dangerous, and goes against guidance on safe reporting of suicide."

And yet TRAs -the people who claim to care most about transgender young people - continue to spread deliberate, and very dangerous, untruths.

It's both awful and ironic that the people who clearly want to protect trans identified people actually make their mental health worse.

I can be angry about more than one thing once.

And - sex, not gender, is pretty clear cut. Males in male spaces, Females in female spaces. Maybe if we all stuck to that we could focus on other things?

100%. How great would Britain feel with a leader as passionately pro Britain as Trump is pro USA?

Some energy, some dynamism - at least he's doing something, Keir does sweet FA

He was so proud of using AI to find potholes? Fuckwit.
