To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Absolutely ridiculous

Needmorelego · 27/01/2025 12:21

Well they once had a war to become free of us.
I think we'd have to say "sorry.....too late to change your mind now".

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 12:22

Is it April 1st already?

Sarah2891 · 27/01/2025 12:23

Don't be silly.

BallerinaRadio · 27/01/2025 12:24

Of all the stupid posts I've seen on here lately... This is definitely the stupidest.

Even more so if it's actually genuine and not a wind up.

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/01/2025 12:26

Are you on glue?

BobbiJo · 27/01/2025 12:27

Don't be silly.

But .
Compared to our "Leader", I'd take Trump any day ending in Y

(ETA- Compared to our "Leader" I'd take 3 toddlers in an overcoat..)

I might have said that a year ago. Given the changing tone over the past few months on here I'm not too surprised to see it.

I don't know where you live, but round here, at best the man is seen as a fool and the worst - well I leave that to your imagination. I haven't heard anyone of my acquaintance talk about becoming part of the USA and the few Americans I know are not complimentary about their new commander in chief and certainly won't be recommending we sign up as US citizens.

Why would the UK sign up to a federal government on the other side of the Atlantic when it rejected a closer economic relationship with Europe 21 miles away ? (NB For clarification - I'm a remainer)

AlisonDonut · 27/01/2025 12:29

Which countries has Trump overtaken?

He's already wittered on about wanting Greenland, and also Canada.

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 12:32

Great idea. If you haven't read the US constitution (which I have) which provides a blueprint for joining the US.

We'd have to start with becoming a republic. Presumably that's the easy bit.

Then we would need a written constitution that aligns with the US constitution - so we'd have to unban gun sales (in fact weapons sales in general).

That would be the first baby steps.

I am presuming this is a thought experiment for non thinkers.

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/01/2025 12:33

Yes, talked about it, not actually done it.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 27/01/2025 12:33

I'm up for it. But only if they build a bridge.

Mittens67 · 27/01/2025 12:33

Feel free to emigrate OP.
I have yet to meet anybody irl who doesn’t think Trump is a psychopath. Not sure who are referring to when you say there is so much support for him here.
From Musk bots perhaps?

All those that were driving slower than him in his Tesla.

Sadly for you both but thankfully for the rest of us, the labour party won an enormous majority at the general election and will govern accordingly.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/01/2025 12:34

It is more likely that Trump will lose a state than gain one. It’s already been commented by Californians that they would be better off no longer part of the union of states but as an independent state. Not sure that would gather momentum, and the fact it’s only 4 years would probably swing it if they were asked to vote on independence. But right now that would be more likely.

(that’s before you factor in the people who like Trump also tend to like the Royal family, have slight obsessive tendencies over the British identity, that would all have to go to join the USA, do they really like him that much? He’ll be gone as president in 4 years anyway.)

ManiacDanceFloor · 27/01/2025 12:34

Six of his businesses have gone bankrupt between 1991 and 2009, and you think he is capable of running a country? Never mind taking over other countries??
He's a nasty indivdual who is so incompetent that everything he touches, fails. Go live in the USA if you want that

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/01/2025 12:34

Dumbest take I’ve seen yet!
