To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

Definitely not!

BIossomtoes · 27/01/2025 12:35

Of all the fucking ridiculous posts I’ve ever seen here - and there have been many - this beats the lot.

Six of his businesses have gone bankrupt between 1991 and 2009, and you think he is capable of running a country? Never mind taking over other countries??
He's a nasty indivdual who is so incompetent that everything he touches, fails. Go live in the USA if you want that

Although being a failing country isn’t stopping russia…

Instant edit - just to be clear I do agree with you broadly speaking!

RandomButtons · 27/01/2025 12:36

“on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole”

Are you on glue?

HelpMeGetThrough · 27/01/2025 12:36
  • Oh, that's alright, then. 🙄*

Well, there is a big difference between banging on about it and actually doing it.

grannycake · 27/01/2025 12:36

Just no - this will never happen

Cattreesea · 27/01/2025 12:36

Don't be daft.

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/01/2025 12:38

BobbiJo · 27/01/2025 12:27

Don't be silly.

But .
Compared to our "Leader", I'd take Trump any day ending in Y

(ETA- Compared to our "Leader" I'd take 3 toddlers in an overcoat..)

Edited

Seriously?

You'd take a sexual abuser and convicted felon who now apparently wants to aquire other countries like marbles over Starmer?

That's not the flex you think it is.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 27/01/2025 12:39

YABU, don't be daft.

The USA is mostly just an example of what not to do.

EveryDayisFriday · 27/01/2025 12:39

Oh Elon, your Mumsnet persona is showing 😁

TeenLifeMum · 27/01/2025 12:40

We’re such a small country with very little to offer. Why would he bother? 😂 (I love living here but politically we’re hardly valuable.)

Adamante · 27/01/2025 12:43

Unfortunately it’s highly unlikely. When you look at the complete showers who’ve been running things these past several decades and who have driven this country into the ground, I suspect there’d be hardly any public resistance beyond a few desultory murmurs in RL but certainly there’d be considerable furious weeping and gnashing of teeth here on MN 😁

LizzieW1969 · 27/01/2025 12:44

No chance in hell. We’re a constitutional monarchy not a republic and that’s not going to change. And Trump is actually a fan of the Royal Family.

Although he probably isn’t a favourite of theirs with his talk about taking possession of Canada, with Charles being its head of state.

'flex'

Please explain?

I understand 'Flex' to be modern parlance for 'brag', or more accurately, 'show off about material possessions'

I don't see how my post was a 'flex' even remotely?
I was not showing off or bragging about anything I own or produce.

🤔

You’d be surprised. We are a convenient little airfield, strategically placed to ease entrance into Europe, the ME and Asia if required. They certainly wouldn’t want for example China getting hold of us…

Cattenberg · 27/01/2025 12:45

What is it with all these threads lately? I’ve never met anyone IRL who has any respect for Trump or who wants the UK to become a puppet state of the US.

AlteredStater · 27/01/2025 12:45

It's bad enough Trump is talking about (more likely trolling) taking over Canada, but the UK?? No way. Pretty sure the Brits would strongly object.

trivialMorning · 27/01/2025 12:46

Are you imagining some sort sweep - Greenland- Island of Ireland then British main land - then onwards - as well as upwards with Canada,

I think they'll find Greenland hard to impossible - Canada a non starter.

I think may are blinded by the sharing of the same language that we have a similar culture - we don't. I think the shine of USA has come off - there internal problems are seen by the world - who'd want to join that.

External threats tend to unify and just because we don't wave flags all the time doesn't mean there isn't national pride. Could we take on the US military - probably not - but we'd probably be sneaky and ferment trouble in their back yard and find allies.

But they can use our military bases so no need to take over.

Ha op maybe we're a bit far

I saw this genuinely and not as a wind up but the only place I see people still suffering from “TDS” is right here on MN and occasionally on X, they’ve nearly all gone to Blue Sky now. In RL every one I know is hoping that the changes in the US trickle over here.

I think your issue here is your own social circle.
