To think eventually, UK could become a part of the USA?

Depending on how Trump gets on … he doesn’t seem shy about taking over other countries. On paper it would make sense globally for the UK and the USA to become one … USA, Canada,UK - what a superpower that would be.

on top of this, there is a hell of a lot of UK support for Trump, I don’t even think the British would object to a takeover on the whole

Seems far fetched I know - but less far fetched that it did a few years ago

because there are plenty of us who think our government is a breath of fresh air

Tbf this is diminishing

A takeover isn't going to happen and wouldn't be supported. But a free trade deal with the US that means we can move there is quite appealing. I doubt that will happen either though.

I think this would be goods not people

You need to up your medication. What makes you think there is a hell of a lot of support for Trump? Happily, I haven't encountered this section of the population but then I don't hang out with ignorant misogynistic racist twats.

How fortunate for you. You can afford to stay ignorant of the extent of his appeal to other would-be alpha male pieces of apeshit. Some of us have to live in areas where they are the norm, and the degeneration of British culture is enabling them hugely.

Jubaju · 27/01/2025 13:21

This is nearly as far fetched as that weird off grid dad who ate badgers.

JessicafelloffTheKnappett · 27/01/2025 13:21

took little Ireland with us as like an Emotional Support Spaniel, but an island..

I think you'll find that Ireland is its own country and is very much still in the EU.
We're not that stupid!

I already have an orange overlord, so no thanks.

Now that is an orange overlord I would willingly accept.

Any others out there that people would like to share?

How did building the Wall and getting the Mexicans to pay for it go?
A serious amount of talk but not a huge amount of action.
All mouth and trousers as my gran would say.

Willoo · 27/01/2025 13:22

And they say Trump is delusional…

I'm up for it. But only if they build a bridge.

In RL every one I know is hoping that the changes in the US trickle over here

I can honestly say the complete opposite. I thankfully don't know anyone in RL that would want that.

Edited

Nor do I.

But someone will I'm sure be along to tell us that we don't move in the right circles.

Ontopofthesunset · 27/01/2025 13:13

Mmm. How could we have a monarchy and become part of the US? Problems, problems...

This OP is obviously a wind up. Nevertheless I am surprised at so many UK citizens with such limited social circles that they only know huge fans of Trump. Everyone I know is pretty worried at the state of the US right now - disastrous healthcare, obesity and opioid crises, gun violence, power of the Christian right and antediluvian abortion views. But my social circle is probably as limited as yours.

I am surprised that so many UK citizens don't know that the UK is a constitutional monarchy, where the head of state is the King not a a President!

I think he is as serious as he gets about this

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cjw461nelzdt
Quote from article

Doubling down on his suggestion that Canada could become a US state to avoid tariffs, yesterday he told the BBC: "They do almost 90% of their business with the United States, whereas with us it’s the opposite."

"It’s irrelevantly small. So I don’t want to spend hundreds of billions of dollars supporting a country unless that country is a state. And if it is a state, the people of Canada would pay a much lower tax," he adds.

Trump also renewed his appeal for Denmark to relinquish control of the autonomous territory of Greenland to the US - saying it's an "absolute necessity" for international security.

"I think we're going to have it," he told the BBC while on Air Force One last night, adding that the island's 57,000 residents "want to be with us" despite Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen firmly stating that Greenland is not for sale earlier this week.

I saw an analysts talking about 1920/20 American firsters - she said they were doing half court tennis.

So essentially they were USA is doing this - and forgetting the rest of the world can and will react to what they do -which could then rebound back on USA and they weren't considering this.

I've seen some push back from Canadian politicians in speeches - talk about getting job back from USA and sounding more aggressive to USA. Greenland wants independent it doesn't want another overlord. Vietnam saw USA as yet another invader and while everything said they couldn't kick them out - they did.

Be taken o over by a country that microwaves tea and don't use a knife. NO!

Adamante · 27/01/2025 12:43

Unfortunately it’s highly unlikely. When you look at the complete showers who’ve been running things these past several decades and who have driven this country into the ground, I suspect there’d be hardly any public resistance beyond a few desultory murmurs in RL but certainly there’d be considerable furious weeping and gnashing of teeth here on MN 😁

Is it the guns people you know want?
Or abortion?
Or is it something else?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 27/01/2025 13:28

Yanbu tbh, at all

Could see us becoming a us colony for 'strictly economic policies, whilst still retaining our britishness' 😭😭😭

Edited to add, I'm steadfastly against that, I'm a lefties as well, but that is definitely the way that things are going

PandoraSox · 27/01/2025 13:28

You coming back @CyanSeal or are you too busy having a laugh at the posters who want Trump to, er, "trickle down" on the UK?

Rewis · 27/01/2025 13:28

I'd worry about this after he's invaded Canada, Greenland and Pananma. He's gonna have a busy 4 years. Also USA has been wanting to buy Greenland for over 100 years so this is not a new thing by Trump.

Betchyaby · 27/01/2025 13:28

ilovesooty · 27/01/2025 13:24

Nor do I.

Well it goes both ways. We tend to surround ourselves with like minded individuals. I know a handful of liberal men in real life and they are effeminate losers.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/01/2025 13:29

Not a chance that the country which voted for Brexit would chose to join another union with even less independence offered.

bumblingbovine49 · 27/01/2025 13:29

For those who think Trump is the person to deport immigrants. The facts say otherwise. But let's not let that get in the way of a good story!

Dec 2024 - US deportations under Biden surpass Trump's record Trump's record

Quotes from article:
US immigration authorities last year deported the largest number of undocumented immigrants in nearly a decade, surpassing the record of Donald Trump's first term in office.

The number of migrant encounters along the US-Mexico border reached a record high in December 2023, but have dropped significantly, particularly in the last few months, and are now at their lowest level since July 2020, according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

..It also attributed the rise in deportations to improved diplomatic efforts convincing countries to take back more deportees.

In the newly released report, external, ICE said the steep climb in deportations last fiscal year was partly the result of a streamlined process.

In June, President Biden issued an executive order that sharply limited asylum which along with Mexico's help led to a decrease in illegal border crossings.
Since then, the number of individuals released by the US Border Patrol pending immigration court proceedings is down 70%, the agency said.

Abhannmor · 27/01/2025 13:29

The last politician to suggest this was William Hague. It was amazingly popular and he swept into power in 2001 , consigning that Euroloon Blair to the dustbin of history. I have so much more to tell ....but I must go and take my meds now.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 27/01/2025 13:29

He would sort out immigration, benefit claiming work-shy youth and reform the NHS. Also, we would be free of the Royal Family. And a biggie for Mums netters, abolish transwomen. What's not to like?
