Does Trump just say whatever comes into his head?

I'm only partly joking. Does Trump script his speeches with the aid of an adviser, or do you think he is just winging it the whole time? I mean, SURELY there can't be anyone in his office who is telling him it's a good idea to suggest renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or to get Palestinian refugees rehomed in Egypt and Jordan as if they were fucking rescue pets? Surely there must be someone in there with even an ounce of intelligence and political nous? AIBU to think he must be either going off-script? It's almost satirical

Americans clearly let him have carte blanche to say what he wants. He doesn't care. I can't believe there is a script writer for his nonsense.

BooToYouHalloween · 26/01/2025 20:42

Most Palestinians are originally from Egypt and Jordan so his statement actually has some historical context.

BarbaraVineFan · 26/01/2025 20:42

Sorry, 'either' crept in there and now I can't edit

I’ve had this exact same thought. He says whatever pops into his head and the world goes into a massive flap trying to understand the implications.

DonaldJohnTrump · 26/01/2025 20:46

Yeah, sometimes I do, I think.
But other times I read whatever's on the auto screen thing. It's a beautiful thing that auto screen thing.

You know, when they stick their furry paws under the wire and the clicks stop then it's drill bambi drill.
It says here.

Catza · 26/01/2025 20:56

I am pretty sure it's been established during his last term that he gets the speeches written for him but he massively deviates form them. I can't imagine a semi-intelligent PA or adviser writing words like "bigly" and " tremendous" into a presidential address.

Most Britons are originally from Denmark, NW Germany and France. Does sending them back also have historical context?

This really made me chuckle, thank you 😂

waddya mean most Palestinians are "originally from Egypt or Jordan"

My most recent ancestor immigrated to USA in about 1850. The ancestors I can trace (back to 1600s) overwhelmingly came from Britain. Does that mean I should have had automatic British citizenship? May I demand a refund of the UK naturalisation fee? What % heritage do I need to demand French, Swiss or German citizenship, too (I can trace those folk too, so why not?)

When he was President the first time, it was frighteningly quick before we all stopped gawping in amazement at what he said. There'd be some preposterous announcement in the morning and then he'd come out with something even more jawdropping in the afternoon and we'd forget the previous one. Four years of it! And now another four years. Thanks, Americans.

Well most of the Israeli Jewish people are actually from all around the globe given that the state of Israel was founded in 1948… should they start going back to where they came from too?

In answer to OP question - yes I think he does. He wants to be the BIG swinging dick which means yelling out pronouncements and backing it up with force or threats. What. A.Man.

AquaPeer · 26/01/2025 21:08

I think a lot of it is said without explanation or context which makes it more confusing.

i think when it comes down to it he wants to run the US like a business- he wants a profitable aggressive trading block. That’s all the stuff about gulf of America/ Greenland is about really.

He doesn’t want to pay for, or get involved in, geopolitics. That’s what’s behind not caring about Ukraine/ leaving WHO/ NATO.

he doesn’t care what Russia and china do, as long as he has his self sufficient trading block making Americans as profitable as possible

but he doesn’t adequately explain this, or he isn’t shown explaining this. Instead we hear mad, irrelevant sound bites without context.

i suspect that if he was a clearer communicator, he’d be less popular. So it’s just part of the package I guess

I dont think it's fair to blame the electorate I was watching the news after he got elected the 2nd time and they interviewed people across many demographic backgrounds and alot of people said they felt better off under the last Trump administration and whilst they disliked him as a person they felt his politics were better than the Biden/Harris administration I don't think they had much of a choice

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/01/2025 21:15

It was an abysmal choice. I can't understand why the people around Biden were unable to take a deep breath a year or more back and tell him that he couldn't stand again. 300 million people and they end up with a choice between Trump and Biden, and then a last minute replacement for Biden who only had a few weeks to campaign. Incredible.

I know it was atrocious
They had no choice really

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 26/01/2025 21:18

Absolutely he does. I'm old enough to remember when George "Dubya" Bush was president and said some weird stuff. He was like Winston Churchill compared to this guy.

Do you think it would’ve made any difference? I think it’s clear now that the US were never going to vote in a black woman no matter how much time she had

Nope. He has advisors who know exactly how to roll out right wing agenda.

I agree with this too whilst I don't think Kamala Harris was strong candidate
She was also never going to be voted in a a non white female candidate even if she was a fantastic candidate

Anniedash · 26/01/2025 21:33

Probably just says whatever comes into his head.

I know, it’s great isn’t it. People can then choose to vote for him, or not, on that basis.

Rather than voting for people who say one thing, and mean another.

willquestionwith · 26/01/2025 21:33

Starmer isn't much better ! Trump is at least funny to listen to and look at. Starmers face and pout he does argh can't look at him I hate his face

Obviously, yes. I’m just waiting for “have I had my tea, yet?” 😁

I think he's right about the Palestinians.

Why would it be wrong to move them when Palestine is being devastated by war.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were moved into other countries

Laiste · 26/01/2025 21:38

I have never seen anyone with such a huge amount of self confidence before. There's not one teeny tiny shred of self doubt in him is there. You can tell.

A tiny part of me can't help but be in awe a bit. I hate to feel it but it's true. I wish we had a few bigger personalities in our politics (not as big and mad as that mind you)

He's rabidly passionate about his country. Shame it comes with so much bullshit. It's equally fascinating and awful,
