Does Trump just say whatever comes into his head?

I'm only partly joking. Does Trump script his speeches with the aid of an adviser, or do you think he is just winging it the whole time? I mean, SURELY there can't be anyone in his office who is telling him it's a good idea to suggest renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or to get Palestinian refugees rehomed in Egypt and Jordan as if they were fucking rescue pets? Surely there must be someone in there with even an ounce of intelligence and political nous? AIBU to think he must be either going off-script? It's almost satirical

Most Palestinians are originally from Egypt and Jordan so his statement actually has some historical context.

That's an oft repeated lie, most of the Palestinians are indigenous and those who aren't are from the border regions and part of the same ethnic group.

That's true The vast country, all the Anerican dream guff and they can't come up with a better President.

The Gulf of America nonsense just goes to show the deep rooted insecurities in the whole fucking nation. All the USA USA! Stuff.

re-naming things after yourself or your country and threatening OTHER countries with takeover is straight from the dictator handbook. Not sure why Trump thinks the rest of the world are going to sit by while he threatens Greenland or anywhere else.
He’s absolutely fucking crackers. He’s also OLD which I imagine why he doesn’t give a damn about climate change or the future of the planet.

No. It shows the deep rooted insecurities of 49.7% of the roughly 59% of the vote eligible population that turned out in 2024.

It's no more representative of an entire nation than Brexit was of the UK.

Decades ago, the USA was the land everyone wanted to live in, the All American Dream, the President was the most important man in the world. People watched the movies and read the books and thought what a wonderful idyllic place the US is.
Now, in the last 20 years or so, with the advent of the internet, social media and accessible travel, the world is realising that actually, the US is really no better than anywhere else. They have shedloads of poverty, deprivation, crime, drug addictions, illegal immigrants, just like the rest of us. It's no longer somewhere to aspire to live and work for many people. Americans, for the most part, just can't accept the reality that their country isn't the American Dream for the rest of the world it once was.

‘The book, Hillbilly Elegy is largely true, with plenty of shadings at Vance's convenience. Interestingly, Vance is actually a beneficiary of plenty of the DEI programmes (in his case rural poverty) he so loathes.’

I’ve read the book. The ‘true’ bit? Mmm. Well it’s his story to tell, plucky little middleclass boy with an addict mother rises above all the lazy, shit, addicted people of the Appalachians to be a success. a diamond out of millions of lumps of coal - to hear JD tell it.

He did benefit from all the DEI programs, but like many insecure people who’ve been successful, the first thing he wants to do is pull up the ladder behind him to make himself seem all the more speshal.

Deetelves · 27/01/2025 10:27

Having spent a lot of time in the Appalachians, I am aware there are many, many ordinary, hardworking people and successful people getting in with their lives, supporting their communities. To hear JD tell it, he’s the only one from Ohio who even got to college…

I don't know if you've heard this, but it's an absolutely hysterically funny breakdown of Hillbilly Elegy

In the article that I read, trump said that he wanted to get the Palestinians out of gaza for their own safety, as Gaza is such a dangerous wartorn area at the moment.

OMG, lightbulb moment! Of course! I get it now…Moving the Palestinians out of Gaza is all for their own good. How could I have been so blind? Hmm

abracadabra1980 · 27/01/2025 21:27

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 21:46

I think he's completely right about moving the Palestinians out of a war torn area.

Not force them out. But give them an option to safely move somewhere else if they want to.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were given safe ways to leave and be a refugee in other countries.

I agree with you on this.

BananaNirvana · 27/01/2025 21:54

abracadabra1980 · 27/01/2025 21:27

I agree with you on this.

But that’s not what he’s doing 🙄. He’s not asking them he’s telling them - he wants them gone. This is not an act of charity. Jesus, can people not see this man for who he is?? Astounding 😬😩🤬

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 26/01/2025 21:18

Absolutely he does. I'm old enough to remember when George "Dubya" Bush was president and said some weird stuff. He was like Winston Churchill compared to this guy.

Me too. Dubya couldn't spell and didn't know much about well geography or history or politics. But he would be a conquering hero if he turned up today.

RedRosesParmaViolets · 27/01/2025 22:06

The comments about Palestinian are interesting.. At the time I thought he meant because it's such a terrible mass of rubble and destruction, it would be easier to rebuild it with no one there?.
Then I thought in a day dream imagine if someone dud rebuild it "beautifully" and the Palestinians could go back to a very beautiful high end type of place... But of course with their consultation and in put and so on. But it may weaken the grip of hammas to say look stunning housing, schools and hospital and so on.
I know it's a pipe dream but I thought what an amazing result that could be for them after all they have been through

user1471516498 · 27/01/2025 22:12

Given that our PM reads off an autocue like a robot, while looking like he is being held at gunpoint, we can hardly talk!

Sadly, if Gaza ever gets rebuilt beautifully, it won’t be done for the benefit of the Palestinians…

Palestinians are very radicalised and the Egyptian leader has said they could wreck peace in the region.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II gave a similar message a day earlier, saying, “No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt.”

I used to wonder why no other Arab nation had come to the rescue, instead they actually closed borders. I feel for ordinary Palestinians who are still ruled by Hamas.

Gosh I wonder why the Palestinians are radicalised???

Starmer isn't much better ! Trump is at least funny to listen to and look at. Starmers face and pout he does argh can't look at him I hate his face

Oh yes, it was really funny when he mimicked the disabled journalist with cerebral palsy. He's a cunt.

@Elissaisnotmyname
I recently watched a film about Vance’s life story, he comes from a very humble background and his family were hillbillies.

You don’t say …..,

SnarkSideOfLife · 27/01/2025 09:14

Yes he’s written a book called Hillbilly Elergy which is meant to be good. He also studied law at Yale so he must be bright especially considering his background

I have read it. He calls it a "love letter to hillbillies", but then proceeds to bitch about hillbillies for the rest of the book, calling them lazy, feckless and irresponsible. Apart from him, of course.

As someone actually from Ohio, yes, the ‘working class’ as you’d call it, are their own worst enemies.

Something needs to be done to stop
or reverse the drug addiction that is pervasive in the region. I have lost friends to this. I’m ready to enact the Singapore solution over it. Vance should talk about this more tbh given his background.

It’s not about lack of money (they have it or can get it easily enough, jobs are plenty). It’s cultural in large part for sure.

Serpentstooth · 28/01/2025 17:22

Hillbillies and Sackler Pharmaceuticalsq. Anyone who hasn't seen a documentary on the Oxycodone crisis needs to take hard look at how pharmaceuticals are promoted in the USA. Such promotions and rewards for prescribing are illegal here in UK. Utterly disgusting practices by medical professionals and salespeople grabbing the nearest dollar at the expense of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged. Keep your US 'healthcare' and we'll continue to be thankful for our tottering 'communist' NHS.

Cattenberg · 28/01/2025 23:18

On the subject of private healthcare, I had IVF at a private clinic and whilst my doctor seemed nice, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was part doctor, part salesman. He offered a choice of several treatment “packages”, all very expensive. Was money an issue? No, problem, here was a leaflet for the clinic’s recommended loan company…

Did I end up with the best treatment for me, or the one that made the most profit for the clinic and/or helped to keep their success rates high? I have my doubts. To be fair though, the doctor didn’t try to sell me any unnecessary add-ons.

Anyway, the clinic was very modern and efficient and I’ve no doubt the staff were good at what they did. But would I want the same approach to, say, cancer treatment? The efficiency yes, being sold a “treatment package” by someone who gave the impression he was working to sales targets - NO WAY! The potential conflict of interest worries me.

This is why we get ‘second opinions’ (sometimes even third or fourth) and lean heavily on personal recommendations. We have amazing doctors in the US, much better than you’d get in the UK, but we also have outright scammers too.

Much better doctors of course. How very American. I expect they're bigger, too and that your dad is bigger than my dad 🙄

Well most of the Israeli Jewish people are actually from all around the globe given that the state of Israel was founded in 1948… should they start going back to where they came from too?

In answer to OP question - yes I think he does. He wants to be the BIG swinging dick which means yelling out pronouncements and backing it up with force or threats. What. A.Man.

We're not allowed to go back to where we came from as that would mostly be various Middle Eastern countries, Northern Africa, the Palestinian territories or Israel, where we're apparently not welcome even though we've been there for thousands of years. We ended up in Europe because we were expelled from our actual home country. The country you're seemingly saying we shouldn't be in.

It's perfectly possible to be against Trump's racist policies without spouting racist policies of your own.
