Does Trump just say whatever comes into his head?

I'm only partly joking. Does Trump script his speeches with the aid of an adviser, or do you think he is just winging it the whole time? I mean, SURELY there can't be anyone in his office who is telling him it's a good idea to suggest renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or to get Palestinian refugees rehomed in Egypt and Jordan as if they were fucking rescue pets? Surely there must be someone in there with even an ounce of intelligence and political nous? AIBU to think he must be either going off-script? It's almost satirical

Remember all the blunders that bush junior used to say aswell .

Some of his were so funny. They did a remix

"Is our children learning?" and "I know the human being and the fish can co-exist peacefully" are particular favourites.

He can say and do what he likes. He spent one rally dancing to a playlist. He made up stuff about pets being eaten and promised a load of stuff that isn't deliverable. His voters don't seem to care.

Geez I'd forgotten about the dancing. I don't think there's any other country in the world where a candidate for presidency could cease answering policy questions and instead spend an hour dancing badly to shit songs and still have a chance at being elected.

RocketNan · 27/01/2025 02:15

Well, at least if the aliens land in America (as we know from films they always do) and say “take me to your leader”, the poor fuckers will be ready to go back home in no time. Invasion cancelled.

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 21:40

Exactly. I don't like the man.

But he is refreshing in a way.

He just doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks.

He just does what he wants

He gives a massive shit about what people think.

Literally immediately jumps to threatening deportation or jail for people who disagree with him. This is not a robust individual who tolerates criticism well.

HRTQueen · 27/01/2025 02:35

Trump goes off script all the time who would have written about injecting themselves with bleach or my personal favourite celebrating US and Italy’s relationship going back thousands of years to the Roman Empire 😆

this is partly what many of his voters like he speaks from the heart he isn’t a professional politician

that he comes out with dumb nonsense seems irrelevant it’s like watching a car crash

and to think we used to cringe and laugh at Bushisms

I think he's right about the Palestinians.

Why would it be wrong to move them when Palestine is being devastated by war.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were moved into other countries

His idea of moving Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan is quite hypocritical considering how much he hates immigrants in USA. Yes, I realise there is a difference with Gaza being so decimated but I think it's a bit rich of him to suggest it.

And let's face it, the majority of Americans are descended from immigrants somewhere along the line. Trump's grandparents were born in Germany, but obviously he doesn't see the parallels in him wanting to deport 'foreigners'.

OneLemonDog · 27/01/2025 02:54

It amazes me that people think Trump is passionate about his country. He inspired an attack against the Capitol for goodness sake, and let it unfold for a good couple of hours before telling his supporters to stand down.

He is passionate about his own self interest self-preservation. I've never seen a politician who cares so little about their country.

Congress and the Supreme Court. That's what they're there for.

He is POTUS, not king.

Yes. The real test of whether democracy will hold will be when one of these cases goes up to the Supreme Court and they rule against him. They have no enforcement mechanism, only moral authority. If he and his administration accept their ruling, there is still some tiny speck of semblance of checks and balances left. If they don't, it's over.

mjf981 · 27/01/2025 03:18

He is the absolute worst of humanity. A total narcissist without a shred of empathy.

I can't watch him. The minute he come on, I change the channel. I'm actually offended that he is given any airtime at all with his complete nonsensical babble.

Most Palestinians are originally from Egypt and Jordan so his statement actually has some historical context.

Where do most Israelis come from?

Yup.

American democracy may already been on it's deathbed. We wait and see

username299 · 27/01/2025 03:37

Hasn't he got rid off watchdogs as well? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

I just can't believe he's teetotal. I remembered during his first term thinking, when I'd hear about his tweets in the middle of the night, that he must be absolutely pissed out of his head. I was astonished to find that he didn't drink at all. I thought it was the only excuse!

Exactly this 😂

re Ukraine/ Gaza- Ukrainians weren’t fleeing in terror (well, I’m sure they were but you know what I mean) it’s a rule of warfare that civilians are to leave countries under attack. The Ukrainian government exited them to the borders and actively supported them leaving. The are the very definition of refugees- Of course the idea is when the war is over the return immediately

the only government gazans have wanted the population to stay as human shields so they simply never had the opportunity to leave at first strike.

I think he just says whatever comes into his head and leaves his minions to clarify it afterwards. I follow him on twitter and some of his posts are either sensible or completely bonkers. However he is making a difference in the USA and I wish Starmer was a bit more like him

MuddyBootsRugby · 27/01/2025 04:07

DancingHippos · 26/01/2025 20:40

Americans clearly let him have carte blanche to say what he wants. He doesn't care. I can't believe there is a script writer for his nonsense.

Ffs. We all came from the sea originally!

Agreed.

Mind you, given that he's loaded the Supreme Court with his minions, I imagine they'll do everything possible to avoid ruling against him.

Out of all his many faults, the way he's undermined democracy - in various ways - is unforgiveable, imo.

tobee · 27/01/2025 04:33

He's not rabidly passionate about his country. He's rabidly passionate about himself. Quite clearly.

tobee · 27/01/2025 04:37

Also he has people like Chris LaCivita and others who believe in all the same stuff. And believe that diplomatic language etc isn't a requirement. Calling Peter Mandelson a moron is apparently fine.

I think that diplomatic language not mattering is being normalised. Populists and the people that vote for them think it's a good thing. Totally ignoring the fact that diplomacy and protocols etc give people pause and stop them going to war etc.

tobee · 27/01/2025 04:39

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 21:49

At least he does stuff.

Biden couldn't even remember people's names.

Remember when he introduced the Ukrainian leader, as the Russian leader

Give me a dead Joe Biden over Trump any time.

Are you supporting ethnic cleansing ? outrageous !

missdeamenor · 27/01/2025 05:34

Simonjt · 26/01/2025 23:20

So Ukrainians were detained and forcibly removed from Ukraine?

Palestinians are very radicalised and the Egyptian leader has said they could wreck peace in the region.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II gave a similar message a day earlier, saying, “No refugees in Jordan, no refugees in Egypt.”

I used to wonder why no other Arab nation had come to the rescue, instead they actually closed borders. I feel for ordinary Palestinians who are still ruled by Hamas.

GildedRage · 27/01/2025 05:52

If 25% tariffs don’t make you cave try 50!
Military plans will be landing shortly in Columbia.
Sticking point whether they need cuffs and shackles.
He’s kind of nuts and gets what he wants.
