Does Trump just say whatever comes into his head?

I'm only partly joking. Does Trump script his speeches with the aid of an adviser, or do you think he is just winging it the whole time? I mean, SURELY there can't be anyone in his office who is telling him it's a good idea to suggest renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or to get Palestinian refugees rehomed in Egypt and Jordan as if they were fucking rescue pets? Surely there must be someone in there with even an ounce of intelligence and political nous? AIBU to think he must be either going off-script? It's almost satirical

That's what they get for keeping electing nearly 80 year old men . Biden and trump can't remember names

The Memories are bound to be going a bit at that age!

Not necessarily. My Dad lived to 89 and still had all his faculties. My Mum is 92 and there's nothing wrong with her memory either. Plenty of other issues, though. Neither would have had the stamina and physical strength to start a hugely responsible job involving a lot of travel and being on duty 24/7/365 for four years from the age of 78.

Remember when george bush junior tried to say

"Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"

But he got it totally mixed up!

The thing is though, at least you know what Bush was trying to say.

Trump just goes on wild, nonsensical tangents. He speaks like a drunk who's one drink away from passing out.

I agree. And it's not just admin, some of his proclamations may be illegal and will now take up a lot of time and money to get through.

The USA is not a private company. It cannot be run like one.

Yes it can. Who’s going to stop him?

We are in our second trump era.

Who would have thought!

I think he's completely right about moving the Palestinians out of a war torn area.

Not force them out. But give them an option to safely move somewhere else if they want to.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were given safe ways to leave and be a refugee in other countries.

It's ironic (tone deaf) considering the US has just stopped any refugees entering their country. But also, removing Palestinians from Gaza is what Isreal wants, not what Palestinians want.

OneLemonDog · 26/01/2025 22:11

Donald Trump, from 2024, taking about getting dressed:

First they say, ‘Sir, how do you do it? How do you wake up in the morning and put on your pants?’” TAnd I say, ‘Well, I don’t think about it too much.’ I don’t want to think about it because if I think about it too much maybe I won’t want to do it, but I love it because we’re going to do something for this country that’s never been done before.”

Serpentstooth · 26/01/2025 22:11

Not quite. At present, he and his son in law are busy planning a new Mediterranean resort, Trump a a GoGo, to replace a Palestinian-free Gaza. They aren't joking. Sickening. Carpetbaggers to say the least.

I know it was atrocious
They had no choice really

I couldn’t vote for Trump with a clear conscience even if it was between him and Mr Blobby. Which it absolutely wasn’t.

I think he's right about the Palestinians.

Why would it be wrong to move them when Palestine is being devastated by war.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were moved into other countries

Ukrainians weren’t “moved” though - those who chose to flee have of course done so, but no third countries have forced them to (obviously russia is forcing them to, in so far as it’s continually a risk of death to stay anywhere in Ukraine, as anywhere could be targeted at any time).

Many people who could choose to leave have remained in Ukraine nonetheless.

And a vast number of those who have left plan to go back to Ukraine when the war ends (assuming it doesn’t eventually fall to russia)

Granting refuge to Ukrainians who seek it is not the same as forcing Palestinians to permanently resettle elsewhere.

I do think other countries should grant them asylum of course, but I don’t think that means we shouldn’t try to pursue a two state solution, or just say it’s all Israel now.

Not everyone will be into this type of thing. But ill write it anyway .

I'm quite interested in spirituality and psychic mediums and people talking to the spirit world.

There's a website where a woman says that she can talk to spirit guides on the other side. She kind of channels them through writing.

Before the hilary Clinton and trump presidential contest, I went onto her website.

She asked the spirit guide who was going to win. They said "Donald trump will win. And it's because he has a certain skill. He is able to visualise himself very clearly in getting what he wants. Like he can visualise himself very clearly achieving anything that he wants".

The spirit guide also said that he wouldn't be bad for the country, that he would help to "clear out the swamp " of bad people as he is a strong personality.

The spirit guide also said that melania was a very highly evolved soul and came here to help him on his path

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2025 22:15

I think the subtext is that Gaza could be 'cleared out' and turned into something like Dubai for Israel, likely with a Trump resort front & centre...

Abhannmor · 26/01/2025 22:17

I think it is all more or less a capella. It's like he thinks a thing and then has to say it? He's a content provider I suppose 😂.

See also Russel Brand , Nigel Farage and to a lesser extent- Boris Johnson. Though I think there's a bit more wit and premeditation with him.

Anniedash · 26/01/2025 22:09

I can't. The USA has laws and a Constitution, not even the POTUS can ride roughshod over them.

It is now up to the Republican Party to stop him. Which is bad news for the Republican Party.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/01/2025 22:19

Re Gaza, this is what the BBC reports:

Describing Gaza as a "demolition site", Trump said: "You're talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing". He added that the move "could be temporary" or "could be long-term".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c07kpjyzgllo

That sounds very close to ethnic cleansing to me. Push everyone out and maybe don't let them back in ('could be long-term'). Trump might invest in the rebuilding of the area. It's in Israel's interests to settle its own people there and secure it. Brutal but logical.

Nobody is acting in the interests of the Palestinians. There's no benefit for Egypt or Jordan either.

Coolasfeck · 26/01/2025 22:22

Stop listening to what he says, and start focusing on what he actually does.

Whilst he shouts and creates headlines generating outrage and opinions pieces for days, him and his cronies are quietly changing laws to benefit themselves.

This is why he’s getting away with giving tax cuts to everyone earning over £350k and tax rises to everyone earning less than that.

Everyone who voted for him deserves it.

Serpentstooth · 26/01/2025 22:23

It could try to stop him but it won't as they are all frightened of both him and each other, gotta hang on to power. And money. At all costs.

But who is going to stop him? And in any case, he only needs to say he’s going to do something and the opposition caves in. Look at Colombia.

Eventually one of the shooters won't miss.

Maybe they'll be Panamanian. Ukrainian, a Greenlander, Gazan. Another discontented republican.Who knows, but in a land with such lax arms controls making so many enemies isn't such a great idea.

I have never seen anyone with such a huge amount of self confidence before. There's not one teeny tiny shred of self doubt in him is there. You can tell.

A tiny part of me can't help but be in awe a bit. I hate to feel it but it's true. I wish we had a few bigger personalities in our politics (not as big and mad as that mind you)

He's rabidly passionate about his country. Shame it comes with so much bullshit. It's equally fascinating and awful,

Absolutely that's why in-his mind he views the insurrection as completely valid because why would anyone vote against him,?

Buildingthefuture · 26/01/2025 22:33

I have literally no idea as to whether he just spits out the first thing that comes into his appallingly coiffed head or whether he actually thinks about what he says. Both of those options are frankly quite terrifying for a “world leader”. I do know I gape in horror pretty much every time he speaks. But apparently many millions of other people don’t. Also quite terrifying.

Is that your wishful thinking? If so, funny how the left gets away with wishing a politician to be shot.

TempestTost · 26/01/2025 23:06

Yes, I suspect a lot of the time he does.

I've come to the conclusion that quite a few people like this about him though, because it seems so different than the usual political practice of avoiding saying anything.

Congress and the Supreme Court. That's what they're there for.

He is POTUS, not king.
