Does Trump just say whatever comes into his head?

I'm only partly joking. Does Trump script his speeches with the aid of an adviser, or do you think he is just winging it the whole time? I mean, SURELY there can't be anyone in his office who is telling him it's a good idea to suggest renaming the Gulf of Mexico, or to get Palestinian refugees rehomed in Egypt and Jordan as if they were fucking rescue pets? Surely there must be someone in there with even an ounce of intelligence and political nous? AIBU to think he must be either going off-script? It's almost satirical

I think he is cleverer than we give him credit for; I think his comments about the Panama Canal aren't to get it back but to keep it away from Chinese control; Greenland is probably similar; don't get too close to anyone else. He's a lose cannon but in some places he may be more effective than we'd all like to admit. But there is some seriously mad stuff too.

I have never seen anyone with such a huge amount of self confidence before. There's not one teeny tiny shred of self doubt in him is there. You can tell.

A tiny part of me can't help but be in awe a bit. I hate to feel it but it's true. I wish we had a few bigger personalities in our politics (not as big and mad as that mind you)

He's rabidly passionate about his country. Shame it comes with so much bullshit. It's equally fascinating and awful,

Exactly. I don't like the man.

But he is refreshing in a way.

He just doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks.

He just does what he wants

Laiste · 26/01/2025 21:44

Yeah.
He's managed to get to be the big dick ... and he's giving it a good swing.

hard to know what to say really

Do you think it would’ve made any difference? I think it’s clear now that the US were never going to vote in a black woman no matter how much time she had

That may well be the case. If the Democrats had gone through the normal process of having several candidates who had to compete against each other, they might have ended up with a better candidate who could have had months to campaign against Trump. Mind you, some of the Democratic policies would have given any candidate an uphill struggle.

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 21:46

I think he's completely right about moving the Palestinians out of a war torn area.

Not force them out. But give them an option to safely move somewhere else if they want to.

When ukraine was attacked by Russia, Ukrainians were given safe ways to leave and be a refugee in other countries.

Nikitaspearlearring · 26/01/2025 21:47

Yes, I think he does sometimes veer off-script and say whatever occurs to him. Remember when he mused about bleach killing germs and so maybe Covid patients should be injected with bleach? The cringe from the expert standing behind him was priceless.
Allegedly when he was first elected, advisors had to explain to him why it would be a bad idea to use nuclear weapons. He thought: we've got 'em, why not use 'em?
He's a car crash. I think it's such a shame that someone with such power has no interest in the environment or battling climate change.
All we can do is sit on our hands and cross our fingers, so to speak.

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 21:47

He embodies all the worst elements of the human character.

Was just looking at social media if teachers in America I follow who are been given instructions if what to do when ICE tries to take children from their classrooms. One teacher was so concerned because her children are non verbal autistic and would not understand.

TokyoSushi · 26/01/2025 21:48

It's probably because of my job, but one of the things that makes me go 😳 is the admin that he must create!

For example, it's just been on Sky News that he's imposing an immediate tariff of 25% on goods from Colombia rising to 50% in 7 days time, imagine having to sort that out! Or the logistics of all the Executive Orders - absolute nightmare!

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 21:49

Tarrifs the consumer would pay after he promised to lower the price of goods.🙄

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 21:49

At least he does stuff.

Biden couldn't even remember people's names.

Remember when he introduced the Ukrainian leader, as the Russian leader

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/01/2025 21:52

Yes.

He says whatever comes into his head and then his team have to spin it to make so it makes a bit of sense to some.🙈

Maybe the more important question should be; why doesn't Columbia want it's own citizens back?
What have these Columbian's done which makes them undesirable by their own government.

I'm guessing they are criminals, thugs, troublemakers which their country don't want to deal with and were hoping the US would just allow non-vetted illegal migrants to remain.

OneLemonDog · 26/01/2025 21:57

At times.

But he doesn't just "say what he's thinking" for the most part - that implies honesty. He knows his broad narrative, then just rambles nonsensical bullshit.

He can speak with greater strength than Biden could, but with far less coherence.

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 21:57

@Briannaco
He called Hungary's Pm the leader of Turkey.
He said Nikki Haley was in charge of security on Jan 6th.
He said Putin had no respect for President Obama that he was going to use nuclear weapons in 2023.

Sorry who said that?

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 22:01

Trump said all of these.

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 22:01

I don't know why Americans love 80 year old men as presidents.

Therapists would have a field day analysing Americans.

It's like they want an extreme , old, father figure

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 22:02

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 22:01

Trump said all of these.

That's what they get for keeping electing nearly 80 year old men . Biden and trump can't remember names

The Memories are bound to be going a bit at that age!

agree with this ^
I know I shouldn’t but it is quite fascinating. However I believe in “beware what you wish for”. So I restrain myself for praising Trump in even a tiny way.

user1492538376 · 26/01/2025 22:03

You know a lot of what he says and does would be quite funny if he wasnt President of the United States.

But he is, so its not funny at all. If he had just stuck to the property tycoon buffoon thing it would have been ok.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/01/2025 22:03

That's a very recent phenomenon. Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush - none of them old when elected. Even Reagan was younger than Trump and Biden.

Martymcfly24 · 26/01/2025 22:04

No idea why.

Both himself and Biden were/are wildly unsuitable for a job that requires ultimate mental competence.

Briannaco · 26/01/2025 22:04

Remember all the blunders that bush junior used to say aswell .

Some of his were so funny. They did a remix

I agree. And it's not just admin, some of his proclamations may be illegal and will now take up a lot of time and money to get through.

The USA is not a private company. It cannot be run like one.
