First we get that alarm, now Tesco is closed tomorrow. It's the end, isn't it?

If Tesco is shut, then it must be bad. Good luck OP, come back and tell us what it’s like in the afterlife. Surely Tesco will be open there.

What alarm?

We got a red alert alarm on our phones around 6pm(in Scotland).
It was so sudden and loud ,actually made me jump.

dementedpixie · 23/01/2025 22:22

Ah, I have an email from tesco too and they will be closed until the red warning is lifted

Is Tesco being closed a sign of the Apocalypse? Does it come under famine?

Four horsemen of the apocalypse:
Tesco shut
Greggs shut
Milk gone
No bread anywhere.

And Ronnie Soak hiding in the corner of course.

FFS. Is this life now?? Everything is weaponised now, even the bastard weather which has ALWAYS been crap in this country. It's winter and yes, sometimes storms and bad things happen. They always have. Check historic records. I wish people would take no notice of this bollocks and just get on with their lives and stop acting like meerkats, bobbing about looking for the next thing to panic about. I think some people just enjoy the drama tbh.

100% agree with you.

Jellykat · 23/01/2025 22:22

Yep, we had the alarm to our phones in December.. it is scary, however although we lost a few trees, didnt sleep because of the noise, and had no power for 47 hours, we made it through!

abracadabra1980 · 23/01/2025 22:23

How do you even get the alarm? So you have to set something on your phone or is it automatically built in?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/01/2025 22:24

Kimmeridge · 23/01/2025 22:20

No 3 is down. The others are ok

Actually it's not just 3, Down Detector is showing quite a few others affected too and it's been about 9 hours and counting. It's being massively down played yet thousands are affected. It's also affecting 999 calls. I think this one does count as a legitimate concern.

Kimmeridge · 23/01/2025 22:24

So far tomorrow

Buses are off
Trains are off
Schools are closed
Hospital appts are cancelled.
Tesco & M&S are closed
No Post Office or DPD deliveries
All local businesses are closed
Doctors are closed

But I do still fully expect to wake up as usual on Saturday

I googled Tesco and now I know that papaya is the fastest growing (in popularity) fruit in the UK. I don't think that's why they're closed though.

That’s fascinating! I can honestly say I’ve never seen anyone whip out a papaya and start chomping on it. Who are the people that are buying them now that weren’t before? So many questions

Its automatic, dont need to do anything

Lobsterteapot · 23/01/2025 22:24

Hopefully not this weekend I’m going to centerparcs

This alert. I'm expected at work Confused

unless you're emergency services i'd tell work to piss off. they've directly said not to travel unless necessary.

Crazytimesbackthen · 23/01/2025 22:25

I’m glad when I was in Tesco this afternoon I bought a large pack of loo rolls. I read the alarm siren would go off on my phone at 6pm. But it went at 5.50pm and scared the shit out of me even though I was expecting it.

It just happened. I imagine it was sent through the mobile network provider

yes

I've just checked historic records. The great storm of 1953 killed 2,551 people. They probably could have done with some sort of warning.

Even if your phone is on silent it overrides it and makes a 10 sec long siren sound

IAmADescendantOfSweepTheSqueakyLegend · 23/01/2025 22:27

Apparently everyone with a 4g or 5g network got it? It was bloody terrifying. I thought that was it, but it seems I have another 24 hours.

ScarlettSunset · 23/01/2025 22:27

I've never had the alert on my phone. Not even when they did the test one as I was in that group that it didn't work for.
I'm not sure if I'm one of those that's considered expendable or one of those that's been chosen to survive the apocalypse and so either way doesn't need a warning...

DreamW3aver · 23/01/2025 22:28

The bosses of Tesco are brave souls, fancy making a decision that will lead to everyone dying. How far reaching is the death effect, will it cross bodies of water to far away lands?

What part of 'red warning' and '100mph+ hurricane force winds expected' do you think doesn't need making a fuss of?

By all means, go out.. but mind you dont get hit by falling trees and flying debris.

No they didn't, it's not UK wide

FindusMakesPancakes · 23/01/2025 22:29

No alarm. No shops shut.
Guess I will live to see another day.
