Following from the (ver popular!) thread about butter I started s few days ago, I decided I want a butter dish to start keeping part of the butter outside the fridge.
Need inspo, how about a show me a pic of your butter dish thread? 😆

I need to update my boring Lakeland insulated butter dish now!

JaninaDuszejko · 23/01/2025 17:05

@CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo if it's not your style then return it and buy one you like. I'd be quite annoyed at the 'your kitchen needs cheering up' actually, pottery is something that is so personal. If she comments claim it got broken so you got a replacement. I am famous for being very fussy about gifts like this though. But if I was buying for someone else I'd try and buy to their taste and not go mass produced from Amazon.

I have a glass one...not this exact one but very similar.
AL-FAHMI Rectangle & Round Glass Butter Dish - Stylish Butter with Lid Easy to Use and 100% Food Safe (Rectangle) : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen

I've never been sure of how it should be used though...I use it with the tray at the bottom but DH, whenever he cleans it and puts a new pat of butter in, always stores it with the butter in the bowl bit and tray as a lid.

Does it matter?

I've got the rounded one of these and I love it. I've got some vintage Gaydon Melmex ones which look nicer but prefer the practicality of the glass as easier to quickly wash and put new block in and you don't discover as you're just about to spread that there's no butter in there!

Also you can heat the lid in the microwave and then put it over a block of butter from the fridge to soften it for spreading.

I like a mini one so you only have 1/3 pack out at a time, stops it spoiling in summer.

Loving this thread.

Dd bought me the LC dark blue one from TKMaxx. Love it.

Its heavier than the ones in the proper LC shops, I think its on licence but I prefer the weightier version, my butter stays nicely spreadable considering its about 6ft from the aga.

@everythingthelighttouches I think that was me who shared it a few years back! He's still going strong and brings me as much joy as ever! Grin

I think I'm being thick, but what is it meant to be?

Babycakes39 · 23/01/2025 17:35

LC in 💜! It was a gift and we use it everyday!

This is my one, I like being able to see how much butter is left:

although now I have weird butter dish envy - it’s the sort of item you only need one of isn’t it…

Edited

Says who??😁

Ilovemyshed · 23/01/2025 17:42

We have an insulated one from Lakeland which is good in summer

I am moving and gave mine to the charity shop along with a load of other stuff. Now I'm thinking that was daft but I can buy a lovely new one and start buying block Lurpak rather than spreadable.

Cost me £1 in a charity shop. Also have the honey pot...

I love this one! 😍

A friend has this one from Anthropologie, although helpfully (not) it’s no longer available in the UK. It’s very charming.

Another Le Cruset from the outlet

We keep small plastic container inside so we can soften butter in the microwave and only need to decant a small amount of butter
