Following from the (ver popular!) thread about butter I started s few days ago, I decided I want a butter dish to start keeping part of the butter outside the fridge.
Need inspo, how about a show me a pic of your butter dish thread? 😆

Butter stays solid. I prefer the big container rather then big lid.

We go through a lot of butter...

Put salt water in your butter bell and you won't have to change it as frequently.

Wish this thread was created last weekend. I spent a happy couple of hours trawling through antique shops looking for a butter dish. It was likelooking for hen's teeth. I found a couple of not butter dishes but might do's. In the very last shop I came across a cottage shaped one reduced from £25 to £10 so I am very happy. Picture may follow later as I am nowhere near my kitchen atm.

I have the Le Creuset one, in Volcanic. A thoughtful thank you gift from a work friend over 10 years ago. Looks like I bought it yesterday!

AzurePanda · 23/01/2025 08:55

This is mine - it was a very generous present from a house guest

Le Creuset here too. Just posted the link to Harts of Stur where they are £30 (and I'm sure you get 10% off first order too)

WestrayWife · 23/01/2025 09:01

Yup, Le Creuset here to - a lovely purple one. I have their salt and pepper grinders too. Had them 10+ years and can already see them outlasting me!

There was a thread about this years ago and lots of people all went off and got themselves this one (including me).

A recent purchase, £12 from Amazon. I have been keeping butter out of the fridge for years though!

I dislike the ones with the dome lid where you have more lid than dish, not sure why, just my own ergonomics.

I also noticed when searching for new one that loads now have a lid with a slot for a knife- pointless gimmick, you’d just end up with a buttery lid.

May I also introduce my best kitchen gadget ever- the OXO Good Grips spreader knife. Game changer.

I would suggest a flat base with a big lid, rather than a container-type base and a flat lid. I find the latter much harder to get butter out of - especially towards the end of it.

I'd suggest quite the reverse. I find that in cold weather like we're having now, the butter is hard and moves around on a flat base. I have both types of butter dishes (I.e. flat base and container) and I much prefer the container type. I have no problems getting butter out when there's very little left.

Agree with you 100%, see my post (and dish) above!
