Following from the (ver popular!) thread about butter I started s few days ago, I decided I want a butter dish to start keeping part of the butter outside the fridge.
Need inspo, how about a show me a pic of your butter dish thread? 😆

I have two LC ones in different colours. I found them in TK Maxx.

I’ve got a little one I bought in Spain in the market. It’s very common over there to have a slice off the butter in a little dish as it’s hot and melts. Very cheap too!

Yours is lovely! I was just thinking as looking through all these lovely butter dishes that I should get a Polish Pottery one to celebrate the Polish side of my family. Just need to decide which pattern to go for... they do the French style ones too, with the water well

Frostine · 25/01/2025 16:55

Boo . My local shop that stocks Le Creuset is out of stock of butter dishes. I wonder why !

FeetLikeFlippers · 25/01/2025 17:01

I thought you were asking to see people’s actual butter dishes in situ in their kitchens so you could see the state of them! Highly disappointed to see a load of photos from John Lewis and Amazon!

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 25/01/2025 17:10

@longtompot the French style ones are brilliant - butter bells, they're called. I ordered two and used them all through that really hot summer recently - 2022? - and they worked really well. Kept one in the fridge, ready to go, and one out and had no issues at all. You need to change the water every day but that's no big deal.

Feel better for that?

There's always someone, even on a lovely thread🙄

I'm a bit late to the butter dish party, but have been loving the read and also have mad butter dish envy! Mine came from a craft market and is earthenware; it's not mega-practical because the top isn't dishwasher-safe, but a quick scrub under a hot tap gets it clean (only me and DH, no teens making toast every 5 minutes with jam tsunamis and nuclear crumb fallout). It lives on the (north-facing, marble) kitchen windowsill for spreadability.

First glance, I thought it was a cake😋🤣

I have this one too. Not pretty but very practical, although I use it the other way up 😂

LadyCrumb · 25/01/2025 18:20

I've got a LeCreuset one for winter, useless but pretty, and an insulated stainless steel one from Lakeland for the rest of the year that is excellent at keeping the butter at the perfect spreadable temperature but looks boring. 😄

How is le Creuset butterfish useless? I’m not sure what a bitter dish can do wrong tbh! Isn’t it more about where you put it? Sometimes I have even been known not to use a butter dish…

Its useless in comparison to the Lakeland one which miraculously keeps the butter the perfect consistency

I have one of these electric butter dishes. It’s brilliant! Keeps the butter at the optimum temperature and uses very little power.

A good thick ceramic dish will keep butter cooler and more solid in summer, and warmer and softer in winter

If it has a nice flat bottom, you can stand it on top of a bottle chiller from the freezer for exceptionally warm summer days

I've just gone to buy one of these online, and there's a review that says it doesn't hold a whole block of butter. Does it hold a 250gm block??? I don't want to buy it and be disappointed!

A whole block just about fits in, but getting the glass top on and off without touching the butter is like one of those village fête steady hands games. It therefore gets incredibly messy and no longer looks attractive. Pity, because it’s a nice thing. My friend who bought one has stopped using hers.

TheHillsIsLonely · 26/01/2025 11:14

An electric butter dish?! I've heard everything now. I didn't know such things existed.

themumformerlyknownas · 26/01/2025 11:19

So happy to have found this thread! And loving the EB and LC designs - may have to purchase one on pay day 😍

There you go. The perfect dish for people who struggle with the flat bit at the top AND for people who have flat bit at the bottom struggles. 😀

My cakes wouldn't pass the neatness test on Junior Bake Off, so no 😂

Wouldn't you just turn the block on it's side?
