Following from the (ver popular!) thread about butter I started s few days ago, I decided I want a butter dish to start keeping part of the butter outside the fridge.
Need inspo, how about a show me a pic of your butter dish thread? 😆

What a lovely thread I have stumbled upon. I have the red le creuset one. Bought in an outlet so was more affordable. Love it.

DGPP · 23/01/2025 09:22

I have the Le Creuset and it cheers me up every day!

Doggymummar · 23/01/2025 09:24

You all have some pretty ones, mine is in a tupperware I lost the lid to. Covered in the foil it comes in. 😢

Doloresparton · 23/01/2025 09:25

AzurePanda · 23/01/2025 08:55

This is mine - it was a very generous present from a house guest

I like that.
It has a decent handle for butter fingers to get hold of.
What make is it?

AzurePanda · 23/01/2025 09:31

@Doloresparton it’s Feldspar Studio. Their stuff is £££££ but very individual and beautiful as well as practical.

hushabybaby · 23/01/2025 09:31

I found this in charity shop years ago, it's made by Wedgewood

LC one is fab but £46 is a lot… might wait for 20% off..

Agreed, I don’t think I’d have paid full price for it! My grade 2 one was £22 😊

Projectme · 23/01/2025 09:34

I have a glass one...not this exact one but very similar.
AL-FAHMI Rectangle & Round Glass Butter Dish - Stylish Butter with Lid Easy to Use and 100% Food Safe (Rectangle) : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen

I've never been sure of how it should be used though...I use it with the tray at the bottom but DH, whenever he cleans it and puts a new pat of butter in, always stores it with the butter in the bowl bit and tray as a lid.

Does it matter?

I've got a Le Creuset one but with the upside-down butter and water underneath, like this one, but obvs not for this price: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Creuset-Butter-Crock-Stoneware-Cerise/dp/B000RGYPZS?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A2QIH6QZ69P7RJ&gQT=1

I find it's great in hot weather, but if it's not that hot (which it's mostly not where we live) the butter kind of shrinks a bit and falls into the water. So I really need another, normal, butter dish for winter.

I’m being dim, what water, where? All I can see in the pics is a red pot for 87 quid! 😂

haggisaggis · 23/01/2025 09:38

Mine is an incredibly boring plastic one from Amazon but as I keep it in a cupboard it doesn’t need to be pretty - but it’s practical, let’s me see how much butter is left and will be cheap to replace if I break it https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09S3YC4K9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1

It's one of the 'French' bell style ones where the lid is the part that contains the butter, and you put water in the bottom part to keep the butter fresh. There are a few more examples upthread. Obviously I didn't and wouldn't pay £87 for it, I think that's just a silly price because it's been discontinued.

stickygotstuck · 23/01/2025 09:43

Oh, that's exactly what I was looking for @BigDahliaFan . I'm after a second one for when breakfast is between blocks!

I'm also a fan of the big container, small lid type.

Here's mine. Charity shop buy. Love it. Matches absolutely nothing in the kitchen! 😁

I have the pink version of this one but it's too pretty to use, it lives on my shelf with a jug from the same designer and my teapots.

I did realise that about price, I was only joking really. 😀. I can only see rectangular pics up thread, my mind is boggling how the lid can contain the butter. But must get on with my work and not go down a magic French gravity-defying butter dish rabbit hole!

Eoin O Connor Butter Dish
Love mine. On my counter top full time.

I have some pretty bento boxes like that. I can repurpose since we both WFH we don't need lunches anymore. Game changer

This is my one, I like being able to see how much butter is left:
Butter dish

although now I have weird butter dish envy - it’s the sort of item you only need one of isn’t it…

Edited

I have two. A plain white china one I keep out in the counter for 90% of the year, and a Less bulky plastic one that takes up less space in the fridge on the idd times it’s really hot.

BarnacleBeasley · 23/01/2025 09:53

@HotCrossBunplease my problem is that it doesn't reliably defy gravity unless it's really hot, which it mostly isn't in Scotland! I guess that's why it's sometimes called a French butter dish.
