My whole family forgot my birthday

Oopsadaisy92 · 22/01/2025 14:31

Kind of light hearted but my brother, my parents and most importantly my DH have all forgotten to wish me happy birthday today. At time of writing it's 14.30.

Just to confirm my birthday is on the 22nd of January... I haven't got my dates mixed up and it's like the 21st today or something??

Also - any ideas on being petty? I feeling like letting them all know at this point needs something big so it doesn't look desperate for attention 🤣

I am 37 and only my Mum remembers. But then again I don't celebrate and none of us do. So even I forget at times 😂

ForSparklyLemonLurker · 22/01/2025 17:58

Happy Birthday OP. Hope your husband and family feel terrible when they realise ❤️❤️

Strawpollplease · 22/01/2025 17:59

My DH once took me to Paris for my birthday, then forgot it was my birthday. So we got there the day before, had dinner etc. the next day it was my birthday and he had totally forgotten!! It made me laugh, but clearly this was in the context of him being caring enough to have organised the weekend in the first place!

Miffsmum · 22/01/2025 18:05

Happy Birthday OP 🥳🎉
What a dick move by your whole family.🤷‍♀️
if it makes you smile, I will admit to forgetting my own birthday once but, in my defence, I had given birth 3 weeks earlier and hadn’t slept for most of it 😂

Also my parents are retired in their 50s (fully cognitive)

Fully cognitive in their 50's? Surely they must have dementia, walking frames and commodes by now?! 😜

Happy Birthday 😃

I never quite understand the birthday posts on MN.
Have you asked for any presents? Mentioned going out for a meal or doing something special for dinner?
If the answer is no and you were just waiting to see whether or not they remembered, then I feel you are partly to blame.

Don’t be ridiculous!

I feel the same. I don't understand how it happens because surely, in the normal course of life, when people are talking about a meal plan/whether to take a trip/when to schedule the dentist, like "normal life planning chats" someone says "oh yes it's my birthday this week we should go here" or whatever? Like how is there not a week or so lead-in time to say "shit I need to buy them a card and present"?

Who are all these people waiting to see if someone remembers, like it's a test? Life is busy, it's very normal to talk about upcoming events, isn't it???

I don't understand people who can't read the OP's posts.

She was talking about her birthday to her dh yesterday.

SnidelyWhiplash · 22/01/2025 18:32

I must say you’re taking it very well, OP.

I’d be pissed off if my family forgot my birthday but genuinely very upset if my husband did. It’s actually unthinkable. But he’s the type that will plan gifts and occasions for weeks on end. Birthdays are a big deal to us.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/01/2025 18:35

Who are all these women who think it's perfectly OK for their other halves to completely blank their birthdays and not even bother to say happy birthday?

Tahlbias · 22/01/2025 18:40

Happy birthday 🎈 🎂

Gettingbysomehow · 22/01/2025 18:40

Treating someone like this on their birthday is a big sign that they totally take you for granted. I wouldn't tolerate it. Things would start changing, washing, cooking, cleaning, lifts in the car, sex forget it.

ChillWith · 22/01/2025 18:43

Happy birthday OP. That's pretty poor from all those who forgot. Solidarity with the Jan birthday ✊ they really are the pits!

It's not about blaming the OP. It takes two to Gabe a conversation. It's about normal conversations, like oh it's my birthday next Saturday what will we do.

Oh would you stop for the love of god🤣

What, like the conversation op had with her husband about her birthday only yesterday?!

IAmNeverThePerson · 22/01/2025 19:03

I once failed to wish DH happy birthday because i got the date wrong (not the date of his birthday i know that but the date it was that day).

What she’s partly to blame they didn’t remember and she should remind them. You are what is wrong in society

TimeForATerf · 22/01/2025 19:21

Shitty, lazy, unacceptable.

i would call them all the fuck out.

Well she says they were speaking about her birthday? Obvs I don't know exactly what was said, not being op or her dh myself..

Pretty sure she'd have mentioned on here if he told her he had no intention of marking the occasion though!
