To use the men's toilets when the ladies is busy

A poster on another thread suggests this is unreasonably but I don't see why.

I would do it if I was absolutely at breaking point and would soil myself but only if I was sure the urinals we're empty and there was no one using the urinalysis on exit . If I man used the ladies for the same reason I would understand .

Do you apply the same logic to speed limit signs and other road signs? That it’s weirdly obedient to take note of them and adhere to their meaning?

Whose life is at risk if you go into an empty cubicle/single capacity toilet with a picture of a man? (or figure outline with trousers - resembles me more than the female one!)? Absolutely ridiculous comparison.

Would you be happy if a man used the ladies on this basis?

Can you give any instance where the gents is queued out the door but the ladies is free?

Exactly. Women's toilet provision is almost always insufficiently provided for, compared with men, hence the queues.

If queuing times were equal, this wouldn't even be a question so until venues get that right, one reasonable solution when women are queuing and the gents are empty is that women use the empty toilets that are right there waiting to be used.

Don't worry, we'll make ourselves scarce should the occasional man turn up so he can piss in private.

My local football teams stadium. And imagine some others too.
Not sure why it matters though.

I don't think it is invading "Men's spaces" because I would dispute if there was such a thing. Female-only spaces exist because women are statistically more likely to be raped and threatened by men. Reverse the polarities so to speak, and a woman is less likely to threaten a man when he's standing with his penis out at a urinal.

So I don't see a problem with this @Everythingisnumbersnow but I'm fascinated to see the MRAs come out in force about "men's spaces". Fuck that - the stats on violence show otherwise. It's ok for us women to have spaces , and men not to. I know my DH would show mild curiosity or surprise if he saw a woman come out of the toilet, but he wouldn't feel threatened. That's the difference.

What about a man's entitlement to privacy when he's standing with his penis out at a urinal?

Peopleinmyphone · 22/01/2025 13:34

If you really can't wait in a queue for any reason I think the disabled toilet would be more appropriate. Otherwise wait in the queue.

Pomsy · 22/01/2025 13:36

Everythingisnumbersnow · 22/01/2025 13:01

I think sex segregation of an empty room is absurd. Cubicled rooms a bit different (although I'd still chance it in a pinch).

So yes then? You think men should be able to use women’s loos?

Peopleinmyphone · 22/01/2025 13:34

If you're disabled then use the disabled toilets. If you're not then don't. They are not there for the convenience of others, they are for disabled people.

Now you just sound ignorant.

JacquesHarlow · 22/01/2025 10:58

What is this "men's space" thing?

Like I said just now - I really don't understand this.

Men have the right to wee in peace, but they also statistically feel less threatened by us in their space. Whereas a man in a woman's space, well the statistics tell us what we need to know.

Why does everything now have to be utterly equal despite the stats?

It isn't just about being threatened. Privacy dignity respect also come into it. Why do we have cubicles in women's toilets? Other women aren't threatening them but they do have a right to privacy.

Well I guess we all have our threshold for which signs we disregard.

I might pull a door which says push.
I obey road traffic signs.
I am mindful of 'beware of the dog' signs.
I won't go into a room with a 'do not enter' sign on it.
Yes, I won't go into a toilet which indicates it's for men. If that makes me weird then I'll take it, I don't really care. I'm doing what feels right for me (taking into account my own feelings and what I believe most people around me would do).

Yourfootisinmysirachamayo · 22/01/2025 13:38

randomchap · 22/01/2025 13:36

So someone should just have to piss themselves in public, rather than use the disabled toilet? Even if the disabled toilet is empty and there are no disabled people waiting?

Icanttakethisanymore · 22/01/2025 13:39

It wouldn't bother me but equally I am not opposed to men in women's toilets either. Unisex all round would be fine for me.

So you obey signs if not doing so puts people's lives at risk.
All others can be obeyed or not as you see fit.

The argument that you don't know whether the sign is a man or a woman is a different and weak one.

I guess on paper I'd counsel against it but I also just want to pee as fast as possible and don't care that much personally. What I really hate is when places make everything unisex but one of the unisex areas has urinals and cubicles so is essentially going to end up just doubling the space available for dudes.

No, they're not for the exclusive use of disabled people. They're usually bigger and more suited for disabled people, but non disabled can use them too! No law against it! Of course, most morally competent and respectful people wouldn't use a disabled loo if they didn't need to, but, if someone is desperate and there's no alternative, then it's fair enough. After all, many disabled loos are also designed for baby change etc.

CrispieCake · 22/01/2025 13:43

Nowadays this seems to be fine. Just identify as a man for a few mins and you're grand.

Its not 'weirdly obedient' to avoid causing drama with attention seeking acts of rebellion that bring you minimal benefit. At the risk of sounding patronising, most people age out of the need to flout convention for the sake of it and save our defiance for the things that actually matter. What you call 'weird obedience' I'd call the maturity to know you don't need to act outside of the norms to feel special and superior to other people.

randomchap · 22/01/2025 13:41

Don't be so ridiculous. They're not just for disabled people, they're just more accessible. They often have baby changing facilities in them too.

MoonWoman69 · 22/01/2025 13:45

📢 Rights for women, rights for women, no men in womens spaces 📢... Oh fuck it, there's a queue for the ladies, let's just wander into the gents! Why should we have queues when they don't?! Privacy is ok when it suits apparently!
But then another point, it wasn't actually specified whether we're talking mens communal toilets, with 3 or 4 stalls and a bank of urinals or stand alone "rooms" so to speak, such as you'd find in some supermarkets. Or just any toilets in general.
Does that alter anyones opinion? It doesn't mine, unless as I've said, there was absolutely no other option and I was desperate to the point of making a mess of myself.

randomchap · 22/01/2025 13:49

Disabled people have enough barriers to getting out and about without having non-disabled people using their facilities.

Baby change should not be in the disabled toilets There should be separate facilities for that, ones that cater for both disabled and not disabled parents.

Not sure why it matters though.

And imagine how long the queues would be at football stadia if the men's loos were only cubicles. They're bad enough with the whole wall set ups where men can stand very close together and wee. But with cubicles, far fewer could wee at the same time so the queues would be massive. As for equal size loos for men and women in stadia, surely it has to be proportional to how many man typically attend compared to how many women - it's ridiculous to have equal sized loos if 90% of the attendees are men.

If you feel strongly, then campaign for it, write to your MP etc. But as things stand here and now, under today's laws, disabled loos aren't protected for the sole use of disabled people and many are designed to be dual use for baby change etc. If you don't like that, then do something about it.

Yeah, well they're not though. I often have to use the disabled toilet to change my baby. And I might even use the toilet while I'm in there too 😱
