To think KFC is fine for an 11 year old?

New friend stuck for emergency childcare for a hospital appointment

I offered to have her, no problem. This was Saturday afternoon and her mum would be out early evening

I asked if she had any allergies because I said 'I'm happy to feed her, what does she like, any allergies?'

Her mum said no allergies, where were you thinking? I said Bella Italia

Her mum said that's lovely! That would be great

Job sorted. Got there and they had closed down! So we went nearby to KFC (both girls very happy and keen to have that instead)

Was I wrong not to run this by her mum?

When I returned her DD, I gave a small run down of how lovely she has been, all the usual. And said we had a KFC, I can't believe X place is closed

She said 'Oh? I thought you were taking her to Bella's Sad. I don't like her having fast food'

I said sorry about that, the conversation trailed off and then I said my goodbyes, said I hoped she felt well soon and drove off

Was I wrong here? She explicitly said she had no allergies and this isn't something I would be bothered about, a friend taking my daughter to place Y when they had previously said place Z (obviously no allergies involved)

it's fine maybe it wasn't her first choice but if closed it would have been a long trek to supermarket etc

Needmorelego · 13/01/2025 14:48

It's fine 🐔
You friend needs to chill.

HansHolbein · 13/01/2025 14:49

The next time she needs emergency childcare she can shove it up her arse.

steff13 · 13/01/2025 14:50

Beggers can't be choosers. Even if she didn't like it she shouldn't have said anything.

No33 · 13/01/2025 14:50

Bella Italia is shite anyway. I'd rather a KFC, at least it's not trying to be something it isn't!

leopardprintz · 13/01/2025 14:51

God. You do people a favour and they always have to act like an arse.

You did nothing wrong.

Overthebow · 13/01/2025 14:51

It’s fine. If she doesn’t like fast food that’s fine too but seeing as you were doing something nice for them I wouldn’t have said anything other than thank you.

ZenNudist · 13/01/2025 14:51

She was rude and I wouldn't be forthcoming with help and treats in the future

Emilianoo · 13/01/2025 14:51

Your friend is a cheeky bitch after the favour you had just done for her.

RedLightsStopSigns · 13/01/2025 14:51

Neither restaurant is exactly health food, but you watched and fed her daughter so she shouldn’t be so ungrateful!

No good deed etc.

Twinkletwinklelil · 13/01/2025 14:51

She should’ve said that before she dropped her off or whatever.. unfair of her to expect you to know.
you did nothing wrong, you fed her child.

an example would be - my parents have my son and I’ve told them he can’t have sweets under any circumstances. therefore, there’s no excuse. If they gave him sweets and I hadn’t explicitly said anything, I can’t blame them. If she felt SO strongly she should have told you first, as I said.

whereisthediff · 13/01/2025 14:51

Just to add, a few months ago she went to the same birthday party as DD - At Pizza Express! And they all shared pizzas

Rude cow, of course it’s fine

B2B25 · 13/01/2025 14:53

Absolutely fine. You were doing her a favour. Mum was UR to even mention it and should have just thanked you!

I also now fancy KFC

SmellLikeStreepForCheap · 13/01/2025 14:53

Very rude of her.

I wouldn’t be doing her any favours in future as your effort is just not appreciated.

I wouldn’t class pizza express as fast food.

and your subject line is asking if we think kfc is fine for a 10yo.. each parent parents differently - but like I said, she should’ve explicitly said no fast food lol
so YANBU

Jelodah · 13/01/2025 14:54

How rude . Belle Italia probably has as much crap I it as anywhere else !
I would have been so grateful . I definitely took my children and their friends to MacDonalds when they were younger. It would never have occurred to me to ask permission. I obviously would expect a parent to highlight allergies.

Biker47 · 13/01/2025 14:57

If it had been me asking for emergency childcare I wouldn't have cared where/what they ate, and I would have offered to pay for the KFC, I take it new friend didn't offer any money.

No, she didn't. But I honestly didn't want or expect any

You did all the right things.

Some parents just don't get it!

Chances are she'd bring a child up, stressing over no fast food ever and at the first opportunity her daughter will fall across the threshold at 2am half cut and holding a half eaten doner kebab with extra chilli sauce!

Whoarethoseguys · 13/01/2025 15:00

She should be grateful you took her. Presumably she isn't a vegetarian and as you say she has no allergies. She can't afford to complain.
You looked after her and took her for a meal.
Bella Italia isn't particularly home cooked food and I don't think it's any healthier than KFC anyway.

JackGrealishsCalves · 13/01/2025 15:01

I would just be grateful you had looked after my child tbh.
A KFC isn't going to kill her

Anniedash · 13/01/2025 15:02

No good deed….

Hayley1256 · 13/01/2025 15:02

It's fine, I'd rather eat KFC than the Bella Italia!

Crumpleton · 13/01/2025 15:02

I'd be pleased you not only looked after my DC but also took them out for something to eat.
