To think KFC is fine for an 11 year old?

New friend stuck for emergency childcare for a hospital appointment

I offered to have her, no problem. This was Saturday afternoon and her mum would be out early evening

I asked if she had any allergies because I said 'I'm happy to feed her, what does she like, any allergies?'

Her mum said no allergies, where were you thinking? I said Bella Italia

Her mum said that's lovely! That would be great

Job sorted. Got there and they had closed down! So we went nearby to KFC (both girls very happy and keen to have that instead)

Was I wrong not to run this by her mum?

When I returned her DD, I gave a small run down of how lovely she has been, all the usual. And said we had a KFC, I can't believe X place is closed

She said 'Oh? I thought you were taking her to Bella's Sad. I don't like her having fast food'

I said sorry about that, the conversation trailed off and then I said my goodbyes, said I hoped she felt well soon and drove off

Was I wrong here? She explicitly said she had no allergies and this isn't something I would be bothered about, a friend taking my daughter to place Y when they had previously said place Z (obviously no allergies involved)

I really wonder if anyone has caved into a KFC craving as a result of this thread?😝

OP in case you are still doubting yourself, YANBU.

probably a fair few. it's cheaper than a Dyson Airwrap, and people were tempted into buying one of those.
even I kind of fancy a KFC, and I've not had it in the best part of 15-20 years now.

I have to say I do think that these “No fast food here” parents are more likely to be setting their kids up with a one way ticket to an eating disorder than the parents who just let it go a bit

I think KFC can be fine for an 11-year-old in moderation. Their kids’ meals are actually designed for smaller appetites, with options like popcorn chicken or a mini fillet, plus a side, drink, and even fruit. It’s not something for every day, but as an occasional treat, the KFC Kids Menu seems pretty reasonable.

The KFC kids menu in the UK offers simple and smaller meals designed for children. These meals come in Kids’ Boxes and Kids’ Buckets, with options like

You looked after her child and bought her food that was appropriate for her.

What the fuck is wrong with people. Thank you is the only thing she should have said.

A kid’s meal? For an 11 year old? Give me strength!

I’m sure she has sorted it out in the last 15 months…

KFC is fine as a one off, and if the 11 year old never ate it she would not know what it was.

But, cut your friend some slack, hospitals are not nice places to spend time, she was probably worried, tired, and maybe planning to have chicken for tea.

I imagine it’s all sorted now as it was 15 months ago
