Where does all the stuff go??

I lost my car/house keys at the weekend. They are on the same bunch, I drove home, let myself in the house. Went to lock up that evening and couldn't find them anywhere. I still haven't found them and I have turned this house upside down. Along with the obvious places, like under the sofa, down the back of the coffee table etc, Ive also emptied the bin, searched though the washing, looked in the freezer, searched the garage, if it can move, ive moved it. If theres a gap, ive searched it - nothing!

ive lost stuff in the past that ive never found, even when moving, they've never turned up.

Where are my keys? And were does all the stuff go?

I would love to know.

I was moving my coffee machine from the cupboard to the worktop last week, knocked the water bit off & it fell on the floor. Haven't seen the lid for the water container since 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tenero2311 · 09/01/2025 20:21

Not the same , however Ive had loads of things go missing only to turn up days/weeks later in a place where I had definitely searched . Has happened many times..

Lost our keys the other day… car and house keys in a bunch. Found them eventually on the back seat of the car?! Must have used husband keys to get in the house!!

The 2 times that has happened to me, it was:

Still in the door

On the coffee table - which was under another coffee table.. you know the stacking tables.

mynameiscalypso · 09/01/2025 20:25

I always find things in shoes.

TeabySea · 09/01/2025 20:28

I'm missing several things. Most irritating would be socks. A friend bought me a really nice pair of bamboo socks. I wore them and washed them. There was only one in the machine when the washing had finished. The machine has been checked over and the filter emptied and its not there.
Nor is the other sock I lost. Treated myself to a pair of silly print socks. Same thing- wore them, washed them and one vanished.

Oh, yes, this has happened too, I bought a new pack of toothbrushes, took one out the pack, put the rest in the bathroom cabinet, which is upstairs, Went to get another one few weeks later - vanished.

Found them a while later in my cupboard in the kitchen . that I go into every day and restock weekly!!

Yes, but everyone knows about the void in the washing machine - 😂

Where do they go? Is there a fourth sock dimension?

I use one of those net bags for socks now. Even then, the odd one goes astray.

Had this happen so many times over the years , I put a friends Christmas present in a cupboard with other gifts , when I went to get it it was gone … apologised and told friend there was part of her gift missing .. went away for Christmas and when I came back they were in my bed ! Yes I was living alone at the time .

Createausername1970 · 09/01/2025 20:46

I picked up my work ID pass and lanyard and put it round my neck. Then I walked into the living room and sat down in an armchair to finish my cup of tea. I stood up and walked a couple of steps across the room and something fell to my feet. I bent down to pick it up and realised it was my ID card. I went to put the ID card back in the plastic holder attached to the lanyard - IT WAS GONE! I just had the lanyard round my neck with the metal clip at the end. I searched the floor, under the chair, removed all the cushions, but I couldn't find the plastic holder, and never have.

I can't work it out. If the holder had fallen off before I picked up the lanyard in the kitchen, then how did the ID card end up falling to the floor in the living room. How could it have been transported there?

Very weird.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 09/01/2025 20:47

Lost a ring - found it tucked under the carpet at the bottom of the stairs right where the hard flooring began. God knows how it got there.

CatamaranViper · 09/01/2025 20:54

I lost a pair of expensive earphones. Absolutely gutted as I used them every day. I always come in the house, remove earphones and put them in my bag, but they weren't there one day. Eventually I found them under the radiator cover in a room I wouldn't go into with them. I don't think I've ever taken them upstairs before because I don't use them ever in the house. They live in my bag and always have done. No idea how they ended up in the spare bedroom

Justploddingonandon · 09/01/2025 20:55

Left in the door would have been my guess, but presumably someone has left the house since the weekend and would've noticed if still there. And if someone had pinched them they would probably have at least taken the car at the same time!
Do you have young children? When mine were toddlers they liked to post stuff into anywhere they could.

Needmorelego · 09/01/2025 20:56

Do you have a toddler who owns one of those Cosy Coupe cars?
Lost keys apparently turn up in the ignition of the toy car quite a lot.

Oreyt · 09/01/2025 20:56

I lost my house keys for a year until recently.

I lost my wedding ring 10 years ago 😢

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 09/01/2025 20:57

I lost a bank card once, it slipped down the side of the sofa cushion - I saw it go.

Stuck my hand down, took all the cushions off the sofa, cut the lining on the bottom, turned it upside down. Vanished.

Several years later we literally smashed that sofa to pieces to fit it in the car to go to the tip. No sign of my bank card. Where did it go?!

I also lost a car key - a key I used every day and had used to get home so it had to be in the house. Vanished. Moved house since then and it didn't turn up.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 09/01/2025 20:57

... same place as all the single socks!

FTHC · 09/01/2025 21:08

I've also lost things for months so ordered a replacement; Sure fire way to make the original reappear.

Elderly · 09/01/2025 21:13

As a kid this happened to the toys that I didn’t save from going to the bottom of the bed.
i learnt to sing,‘I saw three ships come sailing in’ and lo! They would reappear! Try it - and let me know if it works!

Grasmereginger · 09/01/2025 21:27

I've had two debit cards disappear now No clue where

SydneyCarton · 09/01/2025 21:29

It’s the Borrowers!

Just before the first lockdown, I cut my fingers and, as I had to dress them, I took off my favourite ring. It went missing. It is all a bit mixed up after with lockdown and having to look after elderly Mum who got very sick (not Covid) and ended staying at my house.

I turned the house upside down trying to find the ring and even went through the bins. It couldn't be found anywhere. Mum, now better, said she'd buy me a new one but I couldn't find something similar.

Couple of months later I went outside to the recycling bins and the light caught something. It was my ring. It was right in front of the bins I go out to all the time. It was right at front of where I park my car and walk to the front door.

It's silver and not particularly precious but I would be even more devastated if I lost it again after it's miraculous return.

WartOrNot · 09/01/2025 21:41

Our shoe rack is under the place where we hang coats and bags, and the shelf where we put keys and gubbins. Shoes end up sprawled beyond the rack, and beyond what you might call the drop zone.

Keys, hair clips, trolley tokens, that special conker, basically anything that might fall out of your pocket, or that you thought you put in your pocket but didn't realise you missed the pocket, all end up in the shoes. Even the shoes that are a metre away from your coat.

If you keep shoes anywhere near your coats or bags, check inside each one. Don't just look, shake them out and stick your hand right in.

Check also behind and under any nearby radiators/skateboards/whatever else is anywhere near the drop zone.

If nothing else, you'll have an early spring clean 😉

username299 · 09/01/2025 21:42

No idea. I've stopped buying pepper grinders as two expensive ones disappeared.
