And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

You could use Politicos Poll Of Polls if you’d like - I’m sure the number of people intending to vote reform next election (2027 latest) are the same who welcome a breath of fresh air in uk politics.

There’s no obligation to hold an election in 2027.

MonkeyVsBunny · 05/01/2025 20:05

Very pleased about it. I think AFD are Germanys very last hope.

Very last hope for what?

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 05/01/2025 20:10

PandoraSox · 05/01/2025 20:08

How will it not? By what mechanism will it be ousted?

The King could always dissolve Parliament. I think a King Charles did that in the past? It would probably end about as well, though.

I don’t think anyone who can’t vote in a UK election should be trying to influence our politics tbh so Elon Musk can fuck right off as far as I’m concerned.

There is no way this government makes it to 2029.

What do you envisage happening to unseat the government?

Blueblell · 05/01/2025 20:13

If he is pushing TR to join reform - it makes you wonder if he is really trying to ruin the party.

LaDeeDaDeeDa · 05/01/2025 20:14

We need Musk to be more involved, not less.

You wish. It’s got a huge majority and its leader is the only person who can call an election.

Remember that poster doesn't know what 'huge majority' means for a government.

justteanbiscuits · 05/01/2025 20:16

Stephen as the leader for reform has been chuckling. A leader that can't visit the US, with an extensive criminal record, will be the laughing stock of the world.

I do want to turn off and in fact reverse immigration to this country and to Europe and I am prepared to pay the economic price to do so. I’m not saying these things with my eyes shut and I think most people are not.

I think a lot of people are saying it with their eyes shut.

It isn't as if we're talking a one-off economic hit either. Yes, there'd be an initial massive hit, but maybe doing things like raising the state pension age to 70-75 would offset the immediate pain for working age people.

However, unless birth rates massively increase (which is particularly unlikely in a challenging economy) then the problem snowballs, year on year, as the proportion of working age people becomes ever smaller.

If Reform have any plan to deal with these challenges, they aren't sharing it (unless Farage thinks curtailment of abortion rights is part of the solution).

If Reform do form the next government- and I do think that's possible - my best guess is 5 years of inaction on immigration, then their voters move onto the next party who haven't "betrayed" them.

There are a dozen or more very plausible scenarios for it to happen and even more mechanisms for it to happen. We don’t live in America, here we can call an election any time we like. Sometimes we jump before being pushed.

BIossomtoes · 05/01/2025 20:18

No, “we” can’t. Only the prime minister can do that.

Mohamned Karrar was prosecuted, tried and sentenced to life in 2013. Did Musk help achieve that?

Guess who was DPP in 2013 when Karrar was successfully prosecuted?

Is that a royal 'we' there

Remember that poster doesn't know what 'huge majority' means for a government.

Parliamentary majority does not mean actual
majority.

33% of votes, so about 25% of the electorate voted Labour. They still won. However if the prevailing mood of the country gets any worse - and it’s never been this bad so close to an election of a new party then Labour may feel they have to call an election, or lose a leader and then call an election 12 months later.

you do all realise there are hundreds of ways this can happen right?

very, very quickly. The world is exceptionally volatile. Starmer could have his hand forced.

noblegiraffe · 05/01/2025 20:15

I thought we established it was a discussion about the popular vote (33.7%) and therefore they were correct.

Address the point.

if that’s your only come back best retire.

an election could easily be held before 2029 and you know it.

What plausible scenarios are those? A vote of no confidence in a government with a huge Parliamentary majority? Hmm.

If it was easy to call an election, the Johnson/Truss/Sunak government would have been out long before 2024.

Only if Starmer decides to call it. He won’t.

Yes - I think it has probably impacted very positively on the perception of Farage. He’s stood up for what he thinks is right regardless of the cost

Oh I don't know. He can spin it as much as he wants but yesterday Farage said Musk had faith in him and this involvement made the Reform Party look "cool".

Today he looks like Elon's dancing monkey.🤣

No you didn’t.

And a huge majority (the usual definition) is why this government won’t collapse.
