This is of course a distressing event for the girls involved,
This is an understatement on a par with "I'm just going outside and may be some time". Being burgled is a "distressing event". Being raped so violently that you are left with permanent injuries, as a child, and then gaslit and disbelieved by those tasked with helping you, isn't "distressing". It's catastrophic.
but the the government have to look at wider considerations.
The NUMBER ONE PRIORITY for ANY Government is the protection of its citizens. Political philosophers from Demosthenes to Lord Denning via Sun Tzu and Machiavelli all agree on this. So tell us what "wider consideration" could be more important than justice for citizens whom the Government failed to protect?
These are historic events dating back decades,
Is your argument that historic crimes should not be investigated or discussed? It's a point of view, I suppose, but one not shared by the British legal system, nor the media or publishing industry at large.
What we don’t want is far-right activists jumping on these
I don't care if the people jumping do so from the left, the right, up, down or anywhere in between. This is a feminist issue and a child protection issue. It needs to be talked about more openly and in greater detail than has thus far been permitted by bien pensant society. I'm glad. I want to keep talking about it.
It’s not surprising that the far right are reluctant to move on,
What about the victims, because they keep talking about it too. Are you similarly bemused by the victims of systemic abuse being 'reluctant to move on'? You think they should get over it maybe? Stop making such a fuss?
You know it's relatively rare for the Authoritarian Left to display their innate callousness and contempt for the vulnerable so openly...but it's always most instructive when they do.
