My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

Anewuser · 29/12/2024 10:59

My friend had her second child at 48.

When the midwife delivered my grandchild, she said she’d delivered to a 53 year old mum that morning. I asked if it was a surprise baby, midwife said it was the mum’s third child (all under 5), what a woman.

VesperLind · 29/12/2024 10:59

Colleague, 46.

Januarythroughtojuly · 29/12/2024 10:59

The headteacher had a dc at 48 when my eldest dc was at school (quite a scandal as was a c of e school and wasn't in a relationship nether mind married)!
School mum had her 5th child at 48 too.

XWKD · 29/12/2024 11:01

46 is is the oldest I know for first pregnancy. 48 is the oldest I know for any child.

Hertzdonut · 29/12/2024 11:05

On of the mums in my dc’s class had her daughter at 47. Very tragically she died of a heart attack when her daughter was 5.

Moveoverdarlin · 29/12/2024 11:06

mewkins · 29/12/2024 11:12

48

Yazzi · 29/12/2024 11:14

53, an immediate family member. Her doctor thought it was menopause but she said she knew it was pregnancy, having had children.

She miscarried at 8 weeks, fairly inevitably.

NewGreenDuck · 29/12/2024 11:15

I had a colleague who had her one and only at 48,she assumed after years of trying that she was infertile. A client had a baby at 51. I felt positively young at 40.

MissionaryMumtoOne · 29/12/2024 11:16

Acquaintance gave birth at 46 and then again at 49, but I don’t know them well enough to know if they had IVF, donor eggs etc or if was natural.

A close friend of mine gave birth naturally at 45 (no IVF and was her own egg)

CagneyNYPD1 · 29/12/2024 11:23

46 and a half. First baby.

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 29/12/2024 11:23

A colleague was 49 when she became pregnant naturally with her 5th child, 50 when she gave birth. Her eldest daughter at the time was in her 20s and she said many people assumed she was grandma when they all went out together. It didn't bother her though I don't think.

honeylulu · 29/12/2024 11:27

52, total surprise to her. She was going to terminate (had been dating but no partner) but miscarried anyway.

Oldest live birth I'm aware of personally - 46. Brother of a family friend was dating a lady with a grown up son. She found she was pregnant at 45. They got married and baby was born alive and well. She had another one (planned) the following year!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/12/2024 11:37

47.I was receptionist in a gp surgery and a woman came in for a booking appointment for a very surprise pregnancy.

That almost certainly wasn’t an unassisted conception.

mikado1 · 29/12/2024 11:40

NDN - surprise twins at 48.

ShimmySkirt · 29/12/2024 11:41

I knew 45 years old for a woman who had a healthy child to term but 47 of pregnant but sadly the baby couldn't make it to term. My mum had me and later my brother at 40 and 42.
