The oldest you've known someone to get pregnant naturally?

My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

Before contraception, the pill etc it was not uncommon to have a first grandchild and last child who were the same age like PP say. And the passing off of a grandchild as a surprise last child. Though my grandmother did actually have one of these when my aunt her oldest daughter was 17.

There’s a Wikipedia page about women who have conceived over 50. It really is very rare.

The receptionist at my old work used to talk all the time about a client of ours who had her babies at 51 and 53. She went on and on about how amazing it was and that I shouldn’t give up hope (I was over 40 and unable to conceive). I however had spoken to the client and she confided in me she used donor eggs. Not a problem at all obviously. But it wasn’t the amazing natural conception the receptionist used to think it was.

My friend was 22, her brother was 24 and her mum was 53 when she realised that what she'd assumed was menopause was actually a surprise baby! Born healthy but diagnosed with autism in his teens.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/12/2024 14:24

My grandmother, 46 when she had my mum (16 years after the previous child).

I was a spring chicken at just shy of 40 with our second.

KimberleyClark · 29/12/2024 14:31

Great aunt by marriage, 49, second. She had her 50th birthday before the child’s first birthday. Friend at 46, first. She died of cancer when the child was 7.

I know two women who got pregnant at 43 and 44 but both lost them at 7 and 12 weeks. 41 is the oldest I’ve known a woman to have a baby.

My GG at 51, 53 & 54. All twins where only one survived. Already had given birth to 4 m sets of twins

Sorry, have I misunderstood? She already had 4 sets of twins, so 8 children, then went on to have 4 more sets of twins???!

stayathomer · 29/12/2024 14:34

Dm was 46 and I’ve a friend who was 45.

She had 19 children in total. First at 21 last at 54.

SarahB88 · 29/12/2024 14:36

Colleague of mine 46, her third child with all being born in her 40s and conceived naturally.

That poor lady! Imagine losing so many babies.

She had 16 surviving children. I’m guessing the last twins didn’t survive as they weren’t as strong/she wasn’t as strong due to her age.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/12/2024 14:49

My paternal grandmother. She was born in 1875, had her first in1895 at 20 and her last in 1926 at 51. There were 9 live births and apparently multiple miscarriages in between the live births.

user23124 · 29/12/2024 14:51

53 the room next to me when I had ds 20 yo. It was a hidden pregnancy and the woman had 3 grandchildren- no idea whatsoever she was pregnant till labour.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/12/2024 14:56

Great Aunt at 51. Had adopted 3 children as she never started her periods and couldn't conceive. She lived until that baby was in her early 30's. I was a young teen at the time and I'm 55 now. I often wondered why nobody seemed to investigate why she didn't have periods. It's a family mystery but a happy one!

TwistedWonder · 29/12/2024 14:58

51 and that was in 1989. A lot of people said she wouldn’t live to see her DD reach adulthood but she’s now 86 and still going strong with a 35 year old DD

TwistedWonder · 29/12/2024 15:00

Not the oldest but a friend had twins via IVF at 42 then fell pregnant naturally less than a year later - again with twins. So after being childless and trying for years, she ended up with 4 kids with 18 months

twilightcafe · 29/12/2024 15:02
  1. One friend who's child is now a teenager. Another natural conception at 43 was an old schoolmate. But I don't know if that resulted in a live birth.
CMOTDibbler · 29/12/2024 15:03

A colleagues dsis was 51 when she was having abdominal pains and went to A&E. 28 weeks pregnant, and she'd not used contraception in 17 years as she'd tried to have another child after her only and it never happened. She had a textbook pregnancy (despite most of it being totally unaware) and birth, perfect baby

LadyWiddiothethird · 29/12/2024 15:05

48,naturally and all was well.

Rowansiskin · 29/12/2024 15:05

54 The aunt of a woman I worked with. She said the physical strain of the whole thing nearly killed her.

BruFord · 29/12/2024 15:08

A friend got pregnant naturally at 46 (unplanned!) and had him at 47. He’s now a healthy teenager!

Hearttoharttoheart · 29/12/2024 15:09

My grandmother, 48, her child is nearly 70 now.

unmemorableusername · 29/12/2024 15:10

For most of these you just won't know if it was natural or not. Most people lie and say it was when it wasn't.

GreenTeaLikesMe · 29/12/2024 15:12

Someone in my craft group was 50. Definitely not IVF as it was a huge shock according to those who knew her at the time. She recovered fro: the shock and now has a lovely teen daughter!
