My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

Around 42. Had grandchildren the same age as youngest child.

I’d also point out that in a lot of these “great aunt with teenage daughter had a surprise baby at 50 in 1957” cases, the baby was the teenage daughter’s and it was being passed off as the 50 year old’s for reasons of social acceptability.

Very true. Good aul catholic Ireland here. My friends “sister” is her mother. Like everyone knows this including her but just not spoken about.

in saying that another friends mam got pregnant at 49 and had her brother at 50. We were in our late teens and the woman thought she was going through menopause until she became visibly pregnant.

I conceived naturally at 44& 5 months. Ds arrived, full term and healthy when I was 45y 2m.

BigSilly · 29/12/2024 13:29

47,but when I was in hospital having my eldest there was a 52 year old woman who said it was a ' surprise' pregnancy', she was being delivered very early though. I don't know the details but it was less risky than continuing

Bizarred · 29/12/2024 13:30

My cousin at 45.

ForAzureSeal · 29/12/2024 13:31

47

Zamazenta · 29/12/2024 13:32

My friend at 46. Natural conception after 4 miscarriages during 10 years of trying.

Baby girl was 3 weeks early but healthy and now a lively 9yr old.

Friend, 50 - found out when she went to the GP with menopause symptoms (having previously been told that she was unable to conceive)

custardpyjamas · 29/12/2024 13:36

My DGM had a surprise baby at 45. Five previous children.

StrawberryDream24 · 29/12/2024 13:39

My sister's running club mate - 47/48.
A surprise.

Our neighbour growing up - 45.

My school mate's Mum - 45.

Both also surprises.

My great aunt had her youngest child at 45.

I grew up on the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland; until recently times a lot of couples would not use contraception due to religious beliefs. It was common for women to have babies in their 40s. Though probably mostly early 40s, occasionally mid 40s.

Good point and it happened a lot, but in gt Gran's case, her (surviving) daughters were married with children themselves when she had her last. She isn't on my Nan's wedding photo in May 1918 as she was having the poor little boy who died a few months later in the 'flu.

Chocolatetoothache · 29/12/2024 13:44

Early 50s. A friend’s mother, more than 50 years ago now. It’s very rare at that age though.

Marylou62 · 29/12/2024 13:46

My own midwife gave birth at 49...
And my MIL got pregnant at 52 but had a miscarriage...

elfshenanigans · 29/12/2024 13:46

I have 4 friends who got naturally pregnant between 42 and 44. Two had a baby with down syndrome (both had an abortion). One had a miscarriage and one went in to have a healthy baby.

Spitalfieldrose · 29/12/2024 13:46

My Nan got pregnant with my Mum at 47 in 1949. To say she was pissed off is a massive understatement.

BeachRide · 29/12/2024 13:47

A family friend had naturally-conceived triplets at 50. I had my last child at 47.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/12/2024 13:48

53, the little brother of our lovely lady on Reception.

They all thought she was dying of cancer - including Mum, who was scared and refused to go to the GP - until her baggy top got a bit tight and somebody saw her 'growth' stick a foot out.

Nextyearhopes · 29/12/2024 13:49

45 and she now has a lovely healthy 3 year old son. Healthy pregnancy and birth, exercised throughout and was back in the pool one week later (was a competitive swimmer)

Allywill · 29/12/2024 14:03

My grandma had my auntie at 46 when her other children were 18 (my mum), 23 and 24.

There’s one of those in my family. Great grandma had 16 children. Except number 16 was actually the child of one of the older daughters. This was back in the 1920s or 30s. They almost carried it off but numbers 1-15 were redheads and number 16 had black hair 😂

A few people saying 52! Can’t all be the same woman either, the 52 year old pregnancy I know was 20ish years ago. And definitely not a cover up for an out of wedlock pregnancy!

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 29/12/2024 14:13

One of my work colleagues had her first child at 40. She'd been trying for years but conceived naturally.

A teacher from my children's old school had her 6th at 45.

Someone I went to school with had a surprise 3rd child at 42.

Then there's me becoming a grandmother in my thirties.

Isthisreasonable · 29/12/2024 14:17

Me, just shy of 45. A happy accident. Cousin's dd was pg at the same time, she was 25. Sadly she died of cancer before our dcs were teenagers.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/12/2024 14:20

My mate was 43 I think. When you say naturally do you mean without IVF or other fertility treatment for either partner?
