The oldest you've known someone to get pregnant naturally?

My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

Colleague. Menopause baby at 46.
My paternal grandmother had my father at 43 , my grandfather was 59. He died when my dad was 12.

MathsWizard · 29/12/2024 15:14

My H knows someone (mum of a former girlfriend) who had her last child at 49, naturally.

FreedFromDesireMindAndSensesPurified · 29/12/2024 15:15

47, friend of my mum's. The kid was 30 a few weeks back and both he and she seem to still be doing well. Wouldn't have thought it was IVF, as the story I was told is she thought it was the menopause coming early, and she does have older DC.

SwedishEdith · 29/12/2024 15:18

Wasn't Victoria Core Mitchell over 50 when she had her first? My granny had one at 47 but he died at a few weeks old.

lensape · 29/12/2024 15:20

A friend got pg at 45, had the baby aged 46. It was her first (and only), and a complete surprise, she said she thought she couldn't have children.
I've probably met other mums who had babies older than that, as older mums are common in our part of London (I had dd naturally at 42), but I don't know them well enough to know their exact age and if fertility treatment was involved.

Newtothisplace · 29/12/2024 15:23

My mum at 44. I’ve just put a post up earlier asking if 41 is too old (my husband has raised the subject of having a baby lately).

My friend was 43, but sadly the baby only lived a few hours. It was an IVF pregnancy, heartbreaking for them.
I so wish they had met one another in their 20’s and maybe things would have been different.

Pretty sure the youngest of my great grandmothers “sisters” was actually a niece, one of her elder sisters would have been 19 and unmarried…a big deal in those days.

Lifelover16 · 29/12/2024 15:28

Friend, 48. Huge surprise!!

aliceinawonderland · 29/12/2024 15:37

Wasn't there a case of someone who had a child at 59 or 60 ( not in the uk though)

Lots of women continue to have regular periods until their mid 59s so it's not really inconceivable (ha) that they conceive at that age

ScruffMuffin · 29/12/2024 15:38

I know of three women who conceived naturally at 44. My friend knows a woman in the next city who says she had a surprise baby at 49.

Nobody gets pregnant at 60 using their own eggs! Periods or not.

@Saschka
Maybe it was 58 and I think it was natural

SallyWD · 29/12/2024 15:54

51, it was natural. She wasn't trying and thought she was menopausal. Gave birth to a healthy baby.
I know far more people who struggle to conceive in their 40s though.

Legendofthelostkeys · 29/12/2024 15:59

A friend of my aunt had twins at 53. The twins are now in their late 40s

Frangywangywoowah · 29/12/2024 16:02

My mum had me when she was 44. Natural conception

59 is listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the oldest age for a verified natural birth.

So 60 would be exceptionally rare, but not absolutely impossible I would think?

Fluufer · 29/12/2024 16:08

DHs grandmother had her 14th child at 50ish (her DOB uncertain, but within a year a 2 either way). Almost 40 years between her oldest and her youngest. She's in her 90s now.

Menopausalsourpuss · 29/12/2024 16:10

Me, 49 surprise pregnancy. All went well.

Exactly. As someone has said, it's possible to check because it's so rare. That person would certainly be in the Guinness Book of Records!

Lilyhatesjaz · 29/12/2024 16:14

My great great grandmother had number 11 when she was 50, definitely her child as she was happily raising at least one grandchild as well.

For most of these you just won't know if it was natural or not. Most people lie and say it was when it wasn't.

You can tell by the time frame with some though, the grandmother at 47 comment for example would have been natural I'd assume given the time frame that must have been in.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 29/12/2024 16:17

My mum. She was 44 when I was born. Conceived naturally. She didn’t reach menopause until 60.

I used to know a lady, she was the mother to one of my school friends. I ran into her after I'd moved back to my home town and asked if it was her little grandson in the push chair when I saw her in the shop with a small child with tons of curly hair, and she said no he's mine! She said she didn't think she could anymore and hasn't even realised she was pregnant til she went into labour (she was a larger lady). Which must have been a massive shock. She was in her early 50s. She seemed thrilled so good for her I guess.
