The oldest you've known someone to get pregnant naturally?

My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

I’d also point out that in a lot of these “great aunt with teenage daughter had a surprise baby at 50 in 1957” cases, the baby was the teenage daughter’s and it was being passed off as the 50 year old’s for reasons of social acceptability.

AmusedMaker · 29/12/2024 11:45

Having babies way into your 40’s was completely normal in my grandparents day. No IVF back then, ( 1930’s Ireland ) but getting pregnant never seemed to be an issue, even at 45/46.

PickledPup · 29/12/2024 12:03

My uncle was born when my G.gran was 50 - we have a picture of her, pregnant and looking very grumpy about the whole thing 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/12/2024 12:26

Friend, 44. Deliberately ttc for the first time!

Potatoewithawonkyeye · 29/12/2024 12:40
  1. Didn't know it was twins until in labour. So I was definitely an accident suprise!

My Nana was 48 when she gave birth to my mum. Two days later mum's elder sister gave birth to her 1st child at the age of 19. It's weird to think that mum became an aunt at 2 days old.

My friend had her second child at 48.

When the midwife delivered my grandchild, she said she’d delivered to a 53 year old mum that morning. I asked if it was a surprise baby, midwife said it was the mum’s third child (all under 5), what a woman.

I'm going to agree with pp and say this was probably assisted conception.

mitogoshigg · 29/12/2024 12:46

Sil was 46, had given up any thought of conceiving having tried for 5 years including fertility treatments. 8 months after last treatment and after deciding they would give up their jobs at the end of that year (thankfully 1 month before giving notice) she convinced with no assistance.

Yes, that was not unusual.

Someone I know had one last month. Naturally. She is 47 and the dad is 55 I think!! Surprised everyone in our friendship group as the dad is very much not into children!

ThewrathofBethDutton · 29/12/2024 12:51

Me. 42 total shock.
Given up all hope and stopped trying.
Difficult pregnancy, healthy wee one.

MsCactus · 29/12/2024 13:10

My grandmother was 45 when she had my Dad - she did die at 51 tho

Saz12 · 29/12/2024 13:10

My GM at 48, her daughter (my aunt) was 46 when she had her second. Has always been touted as a family issue, along with arthritis and annoyingly thin hair.

Rubyupbeat · 29/12/2024 13:17

Twin boys, mum was 55 and Dad was 80, their 3 other children had grown up and left home and the twins were a complete shock, their youngest being 22.
I met them at the clinic I worked at.

whatthedickens5 · 29/12/2024 13:17

At 44 naturally with twins. Also first babies as childless before then.

DutchTeenyPixie · 29/12/2024 13:17

All of my NCT group (except me) were late 30s and 40s with their first baby. All conceived without IVF etc.

SweetBaklava · 29/12/2024 13:20

A lovely woman in my post-natal yoga class was 52! Had been with her even older DH for fifteen years and had given up trying years before, assumed completely infertile, then got the shock of their lives... I wouldn't plan a child deliberately at that age, but I just remember feeling totally delighted for her at the time - she was so happy and just couldn't believe their luck with their gorgeous baby girl 🥰

GreyCarpet · 29/12/2024 13:21

My grandma also had my dad at 44. He'd be 74 now.

I personally know a few women who conceived naturally at 44 but no one older than that.

Girasoli · 29/12/2024 13:22

43 (DHs close friends mum with DHs friend). A few at 41/42

Uricon2 · 29/12/2024 13:24

Great grandmother, 52. First baby at either 15 or 16.

ETA baby was fine. She had a hard life my great gran, lost 4 children in a period of less than 10 years to illness and a further baby later much in the flu of 1918. The one at 52 was her last and fought in WW2, all her other sons having been in WW1.

Pomegranatecarnage · 29/12/2024 13:25

A woman I know had her second at 46, another school Mum had her 5th at 47.
Edited to say that my grandmother had my Dad when she was 44. He was born an uncle as his eldest brother was born when she was 17, so was 27 years older.

VaddaABeetch · 29/12/2024 13:25

My GG at 51, 53 & 54. All twins where only one survived. Already had given birth to 4 m sets of twins

In my dad's case my gran had 15 kids so she was definitely still popping them herself much to her horror well into her mid 40s. Dr kept telling her it was impossible to have a baby past 40.

Radionowhere · 29/12/2024 13:26

47, accidental. Healthy baby.
Edited to add other children were mid to late teens.
Not me - thank goodness 😅

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 29/12/2024 13:27

I had a baby at 40 and another at 45. I'm the oldest person I know 👶🏻
