Ocado delivery missing items

Is it reasonable to expect that a grocery delivery company figures out how to ensure customers get what they order?
Out of 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing (2x3 different kinds ordered to ensure we got something) ALL of them have been removed from my delivery today as being out of stock.
Seriously? It's not that difficult. It's a PRE-ORDER. The order went in weeks ago. Cut off for the order was 2 days ago. How in gods name are they so crap that they ran out of ALL the stuffing FOR A PREORDER?

OP posts:

Just buy some sausage and take the skins off. Stuff sells out, it's not the end of the world.

GCAcademic · 23/12/2024 15:33

The one that annoys me (and it happens every year) is the 4 for 3 party food offer. Every single time, one of the four items isn't available (and nor, apparently is any substitute), so you pay full price for the other three items. Something which no one would choose to do, because they're overpriced.

No but OP is more than entitled to feel aggrieved by this, its a pretty poor show for an online supermarket

OP i feel you, i had an xmas order in with ocado for weeks, and it turned up with about 1/3 OOS - very few subs to help.

It was also 2.5hrs late. Very poor show. Won't be using them again.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 23/12/2024 15:34

This is why I just go shopping.

As opposed to the OP who did what?

Complain. I had this sort of quantity of missing stuff last year. I didn't even need to contact them, they proactively sent a £25 voucher with an apology for being so shit.

Ocado market themselves on their stock reliability / computer systems. It's one of the main reasons for picking them over delivery from a traditional supermaket.

stanleypops66 · 23/12/2024 15:39

Sausage meat is often very hard to get. Mine was also replaced in my online shop, but I had picked some up the other day when I saw it in the shops.

Skybyrd · 23/12/2024 15:44

I use Ocado all year without problems, and have done so for over 10 years-very few OOS items and usually good substitutions sent. But the 3 times I've used them at Christmas have been a disaster, with lots of items missing, as you've described. Not to mention their exorbitant £10 additional delivery charge (on top of the cost of the delivery pass)!

Now I order the majority of my Christmas grocery items in the 2 Ocado orders before Christmas and get a Sainsbury's delivery close to Christmas for the last few/perishable items. It's worked well for several years now.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 23/12/2024 15:53

My Christmas crackers that I pre ordered months ago are out of stock and haven't turned up or been replaced by anything. I'm so annoyed, I was shopping yesterday so if they'd given any inkling this was going to happen I'd have picked some up. Poor show

loudbatperson · 23/12/2024 15:58

I've used Ocado for the big Christmas shop for years, but this was the first time I had out of stock items. Only a few, but pretty basic items. No carrots, butter or tangerines. About 3 subs, all good and sensible.

I have ordered all meat from a local butcher, so can't comment on that, but the rest of my delivery was flawless. However this year was definitely the worst Ocado Christmas order I have had in terms of stock.

SellFridges · 23/12/2024 15:58

I have Ocado deliveries every week, and have had one every Christmas for at least the last ten years. The last couple of weeks have had more missing items than I have experienced in years, and my Christmas delivery has 8 (poor) substitutions and 6 missing items. I’m really, really disappointed especially given the extended cut off dates and the fact I booked the order in September.

Baggyprincess · 23/12/2024 16:04

I’ve had 2 Ocado Christmas slots - last Friday and today, no missing items in either. I have heard of their reliability being less at Christmas, which is why my last delivery is for the 23rd - so there’s time to go out and get anything that was missing.

MissAnthr0pe · 23/12/2024 16:07

I had an ocado christmas delivery today and this was the first time in maybe 10 years that I had no missing items. And the driver was early! I feel your pain, OP - I've had similar with them over the years.

theeyeofdoe · 23/12/2024 16:08

Mine came this morning, only missing thing was the cucumbers!

cuteyfluff · 23/12/2024 16:10

Because everyone is doing the same and ordering 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing of 2 or 3 different kinds in the hopes they get something so a lot of people now have 6 packets when they only wanted 2

VegTrug · 23/12/2024 16:10

Oh god. I’ve a £205 order coming tomorrow and I’m panicking now. May I ask how soon before arrival, you were notified of the missing items please? 🙏

theotherplace · 23/12/2024 16:11

My Tesco order was missing LOADS.

Ah no one needs those so you're alright

I feel compelled to keep vegetable spring rolls from Sainsbury's, subbed for salt and pepper chicken ones, as they're the 3 of the 2 for 3, and it's either keep them, or get no refund, as they're the 'free' ones. First world problem, but annoying all the same!

They're really nice spring rolls tbf

snowyglobe · 23/12/2024 16:18

Surely an online shop is not a ‘pre-order’. It’s an appointment for someone to pick your shopping from what they have on the day. You’ve not reserved the items.

Calamitousness · 23/12/2024 16:18

Mines arriving tomorrow morning. I’m dreading what is not going to arrive or be substituted. I’ll end up in MandS first thing I bet.

Ocado works differently as it's a warehouse. In theory, they shouldn't over-sell.

My slot is today 5-6 (and we're the next stop now) and I got my receipt at 3pm. So much later than normal.
