Ocado delivery missing items

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 15:31

Is it reasonable to expect that a grocery delivery company figures out how to ensure customers get what they order?
Out of 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing (2x3 different kinds ordered to ensure we got something) ALL of them have been removed from my delivery today as being out of stock.
Seriously? It's not that difficult. It's a PRE-ORDER. The order went in weeks ago. Cut off for the order was 2 days ago. How in gods name are they so crap that they ran out of ALL the stuffing FOR A PREORDER?

My order yesterday had 3 of the party food items substituted. They had been in my order since 25th September so it's annoying. As others have said, Ocado knows what's been ordered and shouldn't technically oversell. And like all supermarkets, they have algorithms in place to plan demand. But I guess things like delivery delays from their suppliers sometimes affect things.

I picked up one of the missing items and one alternative from M&S today, along with other last bits. No car in our household in London though as public transport is generally much easier so have been using Ocado for around 15 years every week now. Wouldn't want to carry a whole Xmas shop on the bus + walk home!

I think not putting in Christmas Colin with his sleigh is unforgivable

Mine came this morning, only missing thing was the cucumbers!

Oooh I had a missing cucumber too - plus unsalted butter, crisps and a few random subs too….def not like a regular Ocado shop - which is usually impeccable

Just go to the shop. How have people got so lazy.

I don't have the time with all the ploughing of the fields , weaving of the cloth, beating clean the clothes in the river and soaking the papyrus to use as paper 🙄

@AConcernedCitizen you don't understand how Ocado differ from bricks and mortar supermarkets do you 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s AIBU. There are many shops nearby for most. Its not rocket science to guess that people will suggest going to a shop.

It's AIBU. It's also not rocket science to realise that someone will make the suggestion as rudely as you did, or that others will then comment on it.

What is hard to fathom is how anyone can follow AIBU and yet seem to feel that their rude comments should receive no criticism.

TeaandHobnobs · 23/12/2024 22:35

Well after having a notification halfway through my hour slot this evening that I was the next stop - just as the hour expired, I checked the app and my order had disappeared from the homepage.
I went into “my orders” to see its status was now cancelled - with no explanation other than “we couldn’t deliver your order”.
So so irritating, I won’t bother with an online order for Christmas again.
6am trip to M&S it is!

Enko · 23/12/2024 22:39

Waitrose order had 6 substitutions 4 decent ones (different flavour shloer and similar) 1 annoying one veggie stuffing changed for meat stuffing. And through meat stuffing was exchanged for the same meat stuffing they had substituted the veggienone for. We sent 3 back and thankfully I had seen the delivery notice earlier so had bought veggie stuffing in town.

Yes, this, having to go to a shop is so normal for
most.

I hate thread police but why do people comment on an Ocado thread if they don’t what Ocado is?

Bearing in mind people with zero legal knowledge proclaim all sorts of incorrect 'advice' on the legal matters board (and anywhere else they find a thread they know nothing about!), the Ocado numpties are just continuing the trend in a similar vein.

Seriously just go to a shop. This navel gazing is boring.

True! It can be concerning what people state as fact when it obviously isn’t

Surely an online shop is not a ‘pre-order’. It’s an appointment for someone to pick your shopping from what they have on the day. You’ve not reserved the items.

Exactly. I don’t understand why people think it’s been reserved because they ordered it weeks ago. It doesn’t work like that

I went to Aldi at 9.30am Sunday morning and was home for just after 10.20am
It was really quick, I just went at my usual time

An hour. I have 48 hours of my own over the weekend. Like hell am I spending one of them in a supermarket when I could instead have someone bring it all too me.

No they don’t. But it’s different to regular supermarket deliveries.

ABunchOfBadBitches · 23/12/2024 23:30

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 23/12/2024 23:26

Except that with Ocado it does.

Even with Ocado if everyone orders an item for a specific day and the company haven’t got their shit in order with the suppliers, some things may be unavailable. All you can do is complain, grab what you need in a physical supermarket and hope they’ll bless you with a voucher for the inconvenience

doodleschnoodle · 23/12/2024 23:30

Well it clearly doesn't work like that. In reality it's no more 'pre-ordered' than a standard supermarket in terms of whether you are guaranteed the items or not. You're just less likely to get subs because they (should) have firmer control of stock levels, but even with that being the case, it's clear that at Christmas they do sometimes get it wrong, which results in stuff not being fulfilled.

Generally I would suggest that if anything is vitally important, you do actually preorder it (most supermarkets do a festive food to order system where they do specifically order stuff for you in advance - we use Tesco most years and order their special desserts, which are handled separately from the main food order) or get it from a butcher or something.
