Ocado delivery missing items

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 15:31

Is it reasonable to expect that a grocery delivery company figures out how to ensure customers get what they order?
Out of 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing (2x3 different kinds ordered to ensure we got something) ALL of them have been removed from my delivery today as being out of stock.
Seriously? It's not that difficult. It's a PRE-ORDER. The order went in weeks ago. Cut off for the order was 2 days ago. How in gods name are they so crap that they ran out of ALL the stuffing FOR A PREORDER?

Even with Ocado if everyone orders an item for a specific day and the company haven’t got their shit in order with the suppliers, some things may be unavailable. All you can do is complain, grab what you need in a physical supermarket and hope they’ll bless you with a voucher for the inconvenience

Exactly! It’s not that deep.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 23/12/2024 23:30

No they don’t. But it’s different to regular supermarket deliveries.

I never said it was the same?

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 22:09

@AConcernedCitizen you don't understand how Ocado differ from bricks and mortar supermarkets do you 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, I do thanks. The principal is exactly the same, you just get less substitutions as your orders are put together in warehouses/distribution centers rather than supermarkets, so the stock isn't affected by on-site sales.

I'd tell you to read the T&Cs about them not guaranteeing anything (just like a bricks & mortar), but you don't need to, as your Christmas shopping hasn't turned up 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nat6999 · 24/12/2024 02:39

I had mine delivered yesterday & was missing toilet rolls, Olive Oil & Balsamic glaze, I've also had to get a refund for about 10 items because the driver managed to break a tub of double cream which covered a full bag of shopping.

EmmaSmiff · 24/12/2024 02:43

I had no missing items this year, but last year I had forgotten that I added a couple of items as ‘placeholders” to bump the cost up so I could book and check it out well in advance. Forgot to edit the order to remove those items and ended up with two bottles of whiskey and a bottle of champagne I would not otherwise have ordered. Good for gifts though.

Sausagemeat is in higher demand than usual due to viral videos on making sausage rolls according to my butcher. Just buy sausages and remove the skins!

HoppityBun · 24/12/2024 04:46

doodleschnoodle · 23/12/2024 23:30

Well it clearly doesn't work like that. In reality it's no more 'pre-ordered' than a standard supermarket in terms of whether you are guaranteed the items or not. You're just less likely to get subs because they (should) have firmer control of stock levels, but even with that being the case, it's clear that at Christmas they do sometimes get it wrong, which results in stuff not being fulfilled.

Generally I would suggest that if anything is vitally important, you do actually preorder it (most supermarkets do a festive food to order system where they do specifically order stuff for you in advance - we use Tesco most years and order their special desserts, which are handled separately from the main food order) or get it from a butcher or something.

How would that be different from what the OP did? She said:

Big Ocado order on Sunday. Nothing missing. No substitutions. Driver was an hour early and kindly put my black bin sack out for me. All good!

Zanatdy · 24/12/2024 05:18

Was this a pre order like at tesco you need to put in an order for certain party food? Or do you mean this is a normal delivery? Because the latter is not a pre order, it’s a slot booked and you receive what’s in stock that morning when it’s packed. As PP said, if everyone is ordering more than they actually want then things will be out of stock more easily. I don’t know why people scramble for the 23/24th slots as that leaves very little time to go out and get replacements.

She’s saying the festive pre-order is handled separately.

I use Ocado all year without problems, and have done so for over 10 years-very few OOS items and usually good substitutions sent. But the 3 times I've used them at Christmas have been a disaster, with lots of items missing, as you've described. Not to mention their exorbitant £10 additional delivery charge (on top of the cost of the delivery pass)!

Now I order the majority of my Christmas grocery items in the 2 Ocado orders before Christmas and get a Sainsbury's delivery close to Christmas for the last few/perishable items. It's worked well for several years now.

Tbf, you do get the £10 delivery cost refunded if you are a pass holder. They send a voucher for the same amount which you enter before checking out.

I had this argument with them 10years ago when a large rib of beef was missing from a Xmas eve order and I had guests arriving for dinner. And I’d ordered the beef in October. So I asked them to place an order for a rib of beef for the following Xmas eve as clearly 3 month’s notice wasn’t enough so they could have 12months notice for next time…Tbf, the person on the other end of the phone took the point and I did get a free Ocado pass for the following 12months along with other comp’d items.

This year the delivery chap got lost, tried to unload the order to a random house a mile away that didn’t even have a similar name to mine.. then put the boxes back in the wrong locations in the van so when I did eventually find him he couldn’t scan the boxes out because he couldn’t find them and tried to pass off one bag of shopping for an entire Xmas shop…🤦‍♀️

Some years are definitely better than others!

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 24/12/2024 05:52

The thing with online delivery slots is that they release them some time around October. So people reserve them by putting in say a couple of bottles of alcohol to bump the cost up high enough to check out the order, and then they go in two or three days before and add everything they want, meaning that the supermarket gets an influx of items added before it can often sensibly resource the stock.

And the way the orders are picked is down to the delivery slot. so you book a slot for first thing then you’re less likely to get as many substitutions for that day than if you book it later in the evening because the products have gone by then.

I shop with Sainsbury’s and I was fortunate that the substitutions I had were purely functional e.g. one type of foil for another etc.

But I bought my turkey crown and ham in person because I do think it’s risky to add those to the online shop, unless you’re ok with a turkey being substituted for a chicken or worse not being available at all on Christmas Eve and then having to scramble to the shops.

SeatonCarew · 24/12/2024 05:52

I'm missing an entire bloody order. Thanks Morrisons. 😡

Do I win the thread?

RedRiverShore5 · 24/12/2024 05:54

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 23/12/2024 23:26

Except that with Ocado it does.

Why do I have the occasional thing missing from my usual orders then if it's preordered it should be there.

ChannelFiveDrama · 24/12/2024 06:53

OP would you have kept all six packets if they'd been in stock or handed any of them back to the driver?

smileyplant · 24/12/2024 06:55

Just had the Reciept through- lots of subs and all the nibbles /party food are missing. Very disappointing Ocado!

Not if you have a midweek pass.

Autumnblackberries · 24/12/2024 07:21

No pigs in blankets in today's order.
Email at 6.15am
Been to Asda and out again by 6.45 with sausages and bacon.
Pain in arse but saved £6.00 over the marks and Spencers version.
And they'd substituted by sauv blanc. Bastards!

Sosijiz · 24/12/2024 07:28

My Ocado order is booked for 12 today. I checked the order over the weekend and had to go to Waitrose yesterday to replace what has been taken out of my Ocado cart. I might just have we’ll have done the full shop in Waitrose especially as it wasn’t that busy.

Sosijiz · 24/12/2024 07:31

Email has come through - no blinis, not even frozen ones. Why is everyone having a middle class Christmas? 😫

myrtleWilson · 24/12/2024 07:39

Just waiting on my order - just one sub- Parma Ham for a different brand of Parma ham so jobs a good’un!

I did once (not Xmas) do a placeholder item of an expensive bottle of champagne and then completely forgot to do the rest of the shop so had to face a wrly grinning delivery drive stroll down the garden path with a solitary bottle of champagne ☺️

Not if you have a midweek pass.

I have a midweek pass, they sent me a voucher so I didn’t have to pay the £9.99 delivery charge. I wonder why you didn’t get one unless it’s how often you shop with them, not sure

JewelleryCat · 24/12/2024 08:28

All in all, I’m pleased with Ocado. A couple of missing items and a couple of substitutions so that’s good and it’s coming later today
