Ocado delivery missing items

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 15:31

Is it reasonable to expect that a grocery delivery company figures out how to ensure customers get what they order?
Out of 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing (2x3 different kinds ordered to ensure we got something) ALL of them have been removed from my delivery today as being out of stock.
Seriously? It's not that difficult. It's a PRE-ORDER. The order went in weeks ago. Cut off for the order was 2 days ago. How in gods name are they so crap that they ran out of ALL the stuffing FOR A PREORDER?

No. Not this. Ocado, which is what the OP is talking about, is different.

But there are still the same Ocado threads every single year…

KnutsfordCityLimits · 23/12/2024 18:34

I imagine for every person who has six loads of sausage meat who actually wants six loads, there is someone else who was hedging their bets and removes some of it just before cut-off date, so it's a balance to try and predict how people are going to change their orders nearer the time when orders will have been put into suppliers weeks before. In addition there will be various issues about being let down by suppliers or other unforeseen circumstances, and they don't want to end up with food mountains at the end given that there won't be deliveries for a couple of days. I always get the majority of it delivered, but in enough time so that I can go to the shops if need be.

Carrots was the only thing missing from my Ocado order yesterday, but that's now all I need to pick up from the shops instead of having to do a whole shop, although I did also decide I wanted red cabbage when I hadn't ordered it in the first place, and there was no red cabbage in any of the supermarkets in my town today! I might also have already eaten a lot of the chocolate...! The smaller supermarkets where people aren't doing big shops, and the basket tills in larger supermarkets seem fine to get through for small purchases, the queues are where people have big trolleys and going through staffed check outs.

Yes.
But it doesn’t mean that you aren’t reserving the items. And it also doesn’t mean that someone is walking around non existent supermarkets.

AdviceAdvice123 · 23/12/2024 16:25

It’s not a preorder. You book a slot. The website has the facility to enter your order in advance but it is not put aside for you.

Yes, it’s crap, but that is the risk of online grocery ordering. Same as going to the supermarket, sometimes they’ll have underestimated how much of something they need, just that in the supermarket you can make a plan b as you go around!

Generally, I’d recommend finalising your order as late as possible. I always do my Tesco ones the night before, so the stock count is as up to date as it can be. I very rarely have anything missing or substituted (big order arrived yesterday with every item).

It absolutely is how Ocado generally is supposed to work - nothing like Tesco/ Sainsbury’s etc. I even received a call from them early December saying my preorder (of bottles of wine to get the slot) needed updating so they could ensure stock was ordered/ allocated.

Doggymummar · 23/12/2024 18:42

I had nothing missing thankfully. Ocado and Tesco yesterday. Tesco again tomorrow for all the half price gift sets. And mustard we just ran out

OldEarAche · 23/12/2024 18:44

@NoWordForFluffy those Sainsbury's vegetable spring rolls are really nice if you're having any doubts about them

Our Ocado order was missing honey, jelly cubes and the Yule log. They substituted the Yule log for another one but didn't substitute the honey or the jelly. We were lucky that the receipt came pretty early so I just popped in the shop to get the missing stuff (as we had an early Xmas meal for family!)

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 17:21

But it's PRE-ORDERED. Many many weeks in advance. So they have plenty of time to get the items

Added to which wouldn't you just remove some from each order rather than all from one order?

In any case we need at least 4 minimum

You haven't 'pre-ordered', you've pre-booked a delivery slot, and your order is picked from the items they have in stock at the time.

Surely you didn't think someone's sat there in their warehouse thinking "Sue needs precisely six sausages on Tuesday" 😅

The items are allocated by a stock management system; if it can't fulfill it'll switch or remove based on your preferences.

JacJac77 · 23/12/2024 18:46

I feel your pain - I've also been let down by the party food offer and a few other items out of stock. Ocado are great all year round but it seems to go wrong at Christmas. Luckily I am not hosting on Christmas day, and I make sure that I did my main shop a few days before the big day so that there's time to get anything missing.

People always say that.Ocado is better than the main supermarkets...and yet I do online with Tesco and rarely get subs. My Xmas order from Tesco was delivered on Friday and I had one sub out of 120 items - cupcake cases. Everything was present and correct. It must massively depend on the store.

It's not, I'm using Ocado at the moment as they kindly gave me a free six months pass and loads of money off offers for being a new customer, including a free £17 box of Hotel Chocolat. I haven't used them for Christmas as delivery is £9.99, Waitrose is £4 so I'm using them. Before I got the free pass I shopped at Tesco which I think I prefer, the website is better and the charging for multi buys is fairer if stuff is missing, so when this free pass runs out in February I will go back to Tesco. Ocado does do M&S which is useful for a lot of people but I often go to my local M&S anyway.

And yet you’re wrong because it’s Ocado. It isn’t Sainsbury’s or Tesco’s - no one is wandering around a supermarket taking their chances with stock levels.

The stock levels are based on the fact Sue has ordered six sausages.

No. A computer is there knowing this.

I'm laughing because the other day a woman was complaining that her mother in law wanted her husband to take her food shopping for Christmas and people said the mother in law should do a online order. I guess she had orders that didn't go through for her and she preferred going to the store.

So Morrisons using Ocado software is behaving like Ocado should but wasn't on OP's case?

I knew Morrisons picked some of its orders from warehouses (I didn't think it was nationwide though, I thought some were done from shops)) and I think somewhere knew that at one time they used Ocado software.

Edited

My Morrisons order comes from a warehouse that must also be used by Ocado as I was chatting to the the delivery driver who said he didn't know from one day to the next if he was doing Morrisons or Ocado and he had both uniforms.

Oh god. I’ve a £205 order coming tomorrow and I’m panicking now. May I ask how soon before arrival, you were notified of the missing items please? 🙏

The email comes through late, but if you go on the app or website and sign in, you can usually see what you are getting earlier.

My ocado delivery was between 10 am and 11 am this morning, and I looked on the app at 6 am. to see if I was missing any items.

I had raspberries substituted, and there were no blueberries, but everything else was fine. My husband was popping to the supermarket anyway today, so picked some blueberries up.

VegTrug · 23/12/2024 21:07

@burntheleaves Yea I know I've used Ocado for years but never at Christmas! I was wondering if people were getting their receipt earlier than usual, given that the cut off date is an 2 days before, unlike the rest of the year

Flossflower · 23/12/2024 17:09

People who say that they would rather shop in person must have serious time on their hands. It is no more reliable going to a supermarket as they can be out of stock too.

I went to Aldi at 9.30am Sunday morning and was home for just after 10.20am
It was really quick, I just went at my usual time

NiftyPeachDreamer · 23/12/2024 21:15

Just go to the shop. How have people got so lazy.

You still do all your laundry by hand, do you? Make all your own bread? And without using a bread machine? Make all your own clothes?

You don’t need to comment on everyone else’s opinion, it’s not mandatory.

However, responding to others is rather encouraged on Mumsnet, else it wouldn't really work as a model! 🤷‍♀️

Indeed. It's also not mandatory to go onto a thread about something you don't do and explain why nobody else should do it too.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 23/12/2024 21:42

@worriedgal Our pigs in blankets were missing, too!
Apart from that, there was just one (sensible) substitution.
My dad was able to get PiBs in M&S instead, if that helps.

It’s AIBU. There are many shops nearby for most. Its not rocket science to guess that people will suggest going to a shop.

BotterMon · 23/12/2024 21:46

Huge Ocado order turned up early this morning. Only sub was a different brand of a packet of crisps but same flavour so all good.

UNTIL I unpacked the order and saw the Christmas Colin Caterpillar cake was a normal Colin. Not needed on Christmas Day but for friends with kids coming Boxing day. I then got an unprompted email stating operational issues blabla so they are refunding the difference btw normal and Christmas Colin of £5.50. Not the point Ocado so, as an extremely long term, loyal customer I will be telling them I'm not happy. I would have far preferred a full refund and for them to have kept the bloody normal Colin. Fingers crossed they will reimburse and I am more than happy to give Colin to the driver next time they deliver!
