Ocado delivery missing items

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 15:31

Is it reasonable to expect that a grocery delivery company figures out how to ensure customers get what they order?
Out of 6 packets of fresh sausage meat stuffing (2x3 different kinds ordered to ensure we got something) ALL of them have been removed from my delivery today as being out of stock.
Seriously? It's not that difficult. It's a PRE-ORDER. The order went in weeks ago. Cut off for the order was 2 days ago. How in gods name are they so crap that they ran out of ALL the stuffing FOR A PREORDER?

Yeah I don't know why people think it's some sort of guarantee that they'll get what they ask for. It's A appointment not a reservation
Because Ocado are not a bricks and mortar supermarket. There are no issues of more or fewer costumers walking in and clearing out shelves. They know exactly what is needed as things are preordered. They monitor their stock according to then by using complex algorithms using the orders they have received and historic order levels

Yep I think if you order weeks in advance they have plenty of notice and should “reserve” the stock. Online delivery has been the norm for years. But making orders for Christmas week has always been a gamble with subs and unavailables. I guarantee there will be posts tomorrow about people desperately trying to get a turkey or Christmas pudding because they didn’t arrive in their 9pm delivery 🙈

BigYellowDucky · 23/12/2024 17:27

People always say that.Ocado is better than the main supermarkets...and yet I do online with Tesco and rarely get subs. My Xmas order from Tesco was delivered on Friday and I had one sub out of 120 items - cupcake cases. Everything was present and correct. It must massively depend on the store.

burntheleaves · 23/12/2024 17:27

StormingNorman · 23/12/2024 16:43

They don’t pick your items until you need the delivery. It doesn’t matter whether you order a month before or two days before. Nothing is reserved for you. This is why I don’t online shop for food.

Ocado is not a bricks and mortar supermarket. They know exactly what is needed as they are an inline only business. You don't understand the difference between Ocado and say Waitrose

Oh god. I’ve a £205 order coming tomorrow and I’m panicking now. May I ask how soon before arrival, you were notified of the missing items please? 🙏

Mine was due 5.30 to 6.30 pm yesterday and they let me know about all the missing items just before 3pm yesterday.

FoolishHips · 23/12/2024 17:29

They're pretty good I find and I do find the delivery easier because they still use bags. I hate having to take everything out of the baskets while the driver waits. Often they're a bit late though.

snowyglobe · 23/12/2024 16:18

Surely an online shop is not a ‘pre-order’. It’s an appointment for someone to pick your shopping from what they have on the day. You’ve not reserved the items.

With Ocado, you essentially have reserved the items as it's online only so, barring failed deliveries and accidents, they know exactly what they expect to have in stock.

There was loads in our Sainsburys when I was in there today (about 11am).

There’s been loads in Sainsbury’s for weeks. Freezes perfectly well.

There really isn’t any need for drama over sausage meat. Christmas falls on the date every year 😉

RabbitsEatPancakes · 23/12/2024 17:35

My big ocado order last night came with just 3 subs- all very reasonable like for like, same size, matched the discount. I had one missing item which was a card that the driver had accidentally ripped whilst in the van.

I've always found them really good at Xmas. The also reopened the editing so I could do it the night before instead of 2 days before as it was supposed to be.

My brie was squashed though, so I requested a refund for that.

It's also OK to have christmas without 6 loads of sausage meat

People adjust their order to put in 6 loads of sausage meat in order to get the 2 they want and then they have 2 other people's 2 lots of sausage meat

Barney16 · 23/12/2024 18:02

My delivery was last week and all present and correct. However we are having beef so it was quite unChristmasy. And the delivery was early. I love ocado. Never had a problem

charlieinthehaystack · 23/12/2024 18:04

tried to do Ocado but they don't do my area. Did Asda was surprised that the morning slots were £4.50 but the late evening slots were £1.50 so booked one of those. 3 substitutes but pleased as they were higher quality 1 vegan item substituted with tofu which I refused

THIS.

These threads appear every bloody year. All you're doing is asking for someone else to go round the supermarket and pick your items off the shelf. You are NOT 'reserving' them.

I went to our local Tesco (open from 5am today and tomorrow) at 6.30am today. I picked up everything I wanted except for one carton of extra thick cream for which I substituted a carton of double. Order online and you take the risk of not getting what you want and not getting the substitutes you'd like.

Ocado doesn't have supermarkets. It's picked from a warehouse.

GCAcademic · 23/12/2024 16:45

Morrisons are in a partnership with Ocado. They use Ocado's automation systems and deliver from a warehouse rather than local stores. It's not like getting a delivery from. Sainsbury's or Tesco's.

So Morrisons using Ocado software is behaving like Ocado should but wasn't on OP's case?

I knew Morrisons picked some of its orders from warehouses (I didn't think it was nationwide though, I thought some were done from shops)) and I think somewhere knew that at one time they used Ocado software.

missedtherainbow · 23/12/2024 18:11

Mine had no milk available, and 12 items that were just missing, not out of stock just not packed at all still charged for them, waiting for a refund 😬

Ocado isn't a supermarket, it's a warehouse. Therefore they can control the stock levels and prevent over-ordering as they know how much of each product they'll have on a set day.

serendipity70 · 23/12/2024 18:14

50% of my items totalling around £100 weren't in my order -driver just didn't deliver them!

THIS. Yup, a warehouse stocked with products specifically to fulfil Ocado online deliveries and its selected by robots

I would never trust online groceries at Christmas. The rest of the year, well maybe but my theory is it’s more expensive to do online. I’ve got all my Christmas food, everything that I wanted by physically shopping myself. Yes it’s time consuming but less stressful than wondering what’s going to be missing.

Well, I don't stress in the least about missing items, so online is far less stressful than crowded Christmas supermarkets. I one looked into M&S on Christmas eve and it's traumatised me since!

smileyplant · 23/12/2024 18:21

My ocado delivery arrives tomorrow - fingers crossed it's not too bad! Nearly £300 - plus a load of birthday bits as we have a christmas birthday in the family.

No. Not this. Ocado, which is what the OP is talking about, is different.

Pottedpalm · 23/12/2024 18:29

Just go to the shops, local M&S Foodhall quite calm round midday, lots of everything available and staff re-stocking

PastaAndProse · 23/12/2024 18:30

Our £300+ Ocado shop arrived this morning without any missing items or subs. Depends on where you are maybe 🤷‍♀️
