Dh making us drive in red warning

BlueFoxel · 06/12/2024 21:00

It just so happens dh and I have been on the Welsh coast for the past few days enjoying a mini break before our wedding. Was sent the emergency alarm earlier today. We are due to set off tomorrow morning in the middle of the red warning for wind. I have shared my concerns with dh but he really does not care at all. Dh thinks I am dramatic at the best of times and has totally dismissed my fears. He has a football game he is wanting to drive back home for. He is very arrogant

I am really bloody stressed out.

Please tell me I am being crazy and everything will be fine.

Why didn't you leave early when the red warning was issued this morning?

Given that, you are right and shouldn't drive.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/12/2024 21:02

His match might have been cancelled already.

GrumpyCactus · 06/12/2024 21:03

I don't understand why you didn't leave today if the trip finished tomorrow anyway?

I absolutely wouldn't be wanting to driving in a red warning.

grumpygrape · 06/12/2024 21:03

Why are you marrying him ?

AntiHop · 06/12/2024 21:04

If he insists, let him go, and you stay.

Why are you marrying someone who is dismissive of your legitimate fears and is arrogant?

BangingOn · 06/12/2024 21:04

He’s arrogant, dismissive of you and doesn’t care if you’re scared. Why are you marrying him?

KickHimInTheCrotch · 06/12/2024 21:04

I would avoid travelling personally but my car is not v reliable and I always worry I'll break down if I have to drive through a flood or something. Depending on where you are travelling from and to I expect the Severn bridges will be closed, they are v dangerous in high winds.

TallNeckedGiraffe · 06/12/2024 21:04

He is very arrogant

Are you expecting him to change?

Nogaxeh · 06/12/2024 21:04

A red weather warning isn't issued lightly. There is a risk to life. You should avoid travel.

There are nearly six hours until the red warning comes into effect. If it's that important to him then he should leave now.

Typerighter · 06/12/2024 21:04

Id take water, blankets and food in case you get stuck in a 20 hour tail back because lorries have turned over.

despairnow · 06/12/2024 21:06

Have you shown him the alert ?

despairnow · 06/12/2024 21:06

It says not to drive

Brefugee · 06/12/2024 21:07

let him drive home, you stay where you are and think about where this relationship is going.

susiedaisy1912 · 06/12/2024 21:09

Isnt op married to this person?

GrumpyCactus · 06/12/2024 21:10

susiedaisy1912 · 06/12/2024 21:09

Isnt op married to this person?

No she's on a break before their wedding which if she has any common sense she will make a permanent break...

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 06/12/2024 21:13

A guy I used to work with, his wife and 3 kids were all killed a few years ago whilst driving in an amber warning storm. A tree fell on their car. It's unlikely to happen but it can happen.

GreyDuck · 06/12/2024 21:15

A red warning is risk to life. You shouldn't drive. Either leave now or stay put. All sports fixtures in Wales have been cancelled so people aren't travelling, but I'm guessing you're going back to England.
I only remember one other red warning, and it was really scary, trees down all over the place. I wouldn't go out in one again unless literally life or death.

ThisAquaCrow · 06/12/2024 21:17

Why didn’t you leave earlier?

Roryno · 06/12/2024 21:17

I’d tell him you’re not coming, and he can come and pick you up on the Sunday if he’s determined to go.

Honesrly! For a bloody football game. How stupid.

noctilucentcloud · 06/12/2024 21:17

I suggest either going now or waiting until the red warning is over tomorrow, although there are also an orange warnings for wind and rain depending on where you are. My experience of orange rain events is that there's a lot of flooding and road closures. They don't recommend travel in an orange warning, I definitely wouldn't in a red.

nutbrownhare15 · 06/12/2024 21:18

I'd be booking a hotel and waiting til it's over. He can do what he wants.

TiramisuThief · 06/12/2024 21:23

I would leave now or wait until Sunday.

Wellingtonspie · 06/12/2024 21:24

In wales on a red warning. No id of left already or extended my stay. We saw plenty of damage in the amber last year.

zerored · 06/12/2024 21:24

Don't risk your life for a football match. To be blunt, he sounds selfish and stupid, I'd be reassessing the wedding. He should want you to be safe.

Tinselz · 06/12/2024 21:26

Can you stay longer or is your accommodation booked by someone else?
