Dh making us drive in red warning

BlueFoxel · 06/12/2024 21:00

It just so happens dh and I have been on the Welsh coast for the past few days enjoying a mini break before our wedding. Was sent the emergency alarm earlier today. We are due to set off tomorrow morning in the middle of the red warning for wind. I have shared my concerns with dh but he really does not care at all. Dh thinks I am dramatic at the best of times and has totally dismissed my fears. He has a football game he is wanting to drive back home for. He is very arrogant

I am really bloody stressed out.

Please tell me I am being crazy and everything will be fine.

He's not a puppy she can train up. He is arrogant, authoritative, domineering and dismisses her concerns. No she should not 'start with a more suitable subject' like a good little wifey. she can choose to address this now as it happens.

The "more suitable subject" in that context is a different man!!

StrikeForever · 07/12/2024 19:03

He can’t ’make you’ do anything. Believing he can is a red flag for a marriage.

Your D Fiancé is as thick as pigshit. I'm glad you're staying put, but he's still talking about when roads will reopen and what monmouth/ Forest of Dean will be like d'uh
The prince of wales bridge will reopen first as the sides are built up given more protection from the winds
However, there will be fallen trees and debris and still no certainty it will be open
Going down through Lydney, the road twists and turn's alongside the river
I hope it's better tomorrow but no guarantee there won't be flooding
I simply don't believe he is a good partner in other ways. Probably because you appease him every time.

Absolutely. Living in the Forest I can confirm you do not want to be driving in this it’s too risky. Trees have already come down and blocked roads in places and Lydney has experienced enormous amounts of unprecedented flooding in the last ten days or so where lots of people have had to be evacuated from their homes. We’re “only” on a yellow warning but it is still horrendous outside.

DroopyEyelids · 07/12/2024 19:16

Just a dash of common sense required here- if anything happens to you and emergency services have to risk their lives for both of your stupidity and arrogance …. Unbelievable.

pollymere · 07/12/2024 19:17

I live near London. The winds here are completely horrendous. My DH attempted to go outside and I felt I should put a safety line on him.

Hopefully it will calm down overnight and you'll be able to drive back tomorrow but he'd have been crazy to try today. You definitely did the right thing. It isn't a marriage breaker. Let's hope he just doesn't get like this too often!

Why didn't you leave early when the red warning was issued this morning?

Given that, you are right and shouldn't drive.

The red telephone warning was sent after 7.00 pm?
Hopefully the OP got home safe the weather was atrocious her in SW.Wales.

JohnofWessex · 07/12/2024 19:59

Where in Wales are you starting from? And Driving to?

Clearly Welshpool to Shrewsbury is very different from Cardigan to London

Welshpool wasn't in the red warning area. And she said North Wales and going to the SE of England.

Sorry, coastal Wales

rb124 · 07/12/2024 20:34

They don't issue these warnings for a laugh - don't travel it's just not worth the risk

chaosmaker · 07/12/2024 20:38

The wind was blowing my car around when we weren't in a red warning in Cardiff today. It's supposed to worsen overnight I think.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 07/12/2024 20:49

My DH put the safety of me and the DC above everything because he loved us so much.

I don't think I've ever said this before but I strongly recommend that you rethink your marriage plans.

This man doesn't love you as any bride deserves.

martinisforeveryone · 07/12/2024 21:11

I've just looked and the new bridge is open now (the M4 one) the old (M48 Chepstow) is still closed.

The thing about the coloured warnings though is that they're generalised advice for a wider area. We've only had yellow officially, but looking out of the window and knowing the immediate terrain, there's no way I'd go out if it wasn't something unbelievably compelling. like say, a loved one needing help. We have trees down and flooding and I know where there a lot more trees that look vulnerable.

Thanks all for concern. Just had an amazing nap

We have booked the cottage for an additional night. Dh keeps refreshing twitter in the hope the bridges will have reopened. Dh has suggested the Monmouthshire route multiple times but there is no way in hell I will drive through a forest in this wind..

Edited

A forest?
what are you on about?

The alternative route to England if the Severn Bridges are closed goes through the Forest of Dean. It is not all thickly wooded, but there are lots of trees down and high risk of flooding, according to a previous poster on this thread.

EasterIssland · 07/12/2024 21:33

The prince of Wales bridge has reopened now

The red weather warning was issued in the morning. The severe alert was sent in the evening, you are right about that. But the warning was issued hours earlier and was in the news all day.

Not to mention the strain on resources and putting emergency personnel at risk if something does happen.

Thankyou.
ive spent the last 12 hours worrying for the safety of the police officers I've been dispatching to deal with all the idiots people who had very important things to do today that meant they had to be on the roads breaking down and having accidents

Why are you marrying him ?

Exactly

Minc · 08/12/2024 03:35

I once said to a therapist “why do I choose these men?”
Her answer led to a moment of clarity that I will be forever grateful for:
”THEY choose YOU.”

Wonder if they are home ?

Extraenergyneeded · 08/12/2024 12:41

There are trees down near us and we are only in a yellow area.

Nantescalling · 08/12/2024 13:21

Just tell him 'bon voyage' and you take a train.
