I think we definitely slipped into too many after tonight.

The delivery driver asked me if I'm ok/if everything is ok , because he hasn't seen me in a long time.

Ooops. Grin

DH and I used to have an Indian/Chinese every fortnight or so but just can’t justify the cost any more. Having one tomorrow night as it’s been a busy week and we’ve barely seen each other so a nice treat. Will probably have another one just before Christmas but that’s unusual.

Intrigued to know what the multiple takeaways per week people are spending!

We have perhaps 1 lunch out a week (McDonalds subway or Greggs) and 1 dinner out a week (domino's or Indian usually) spend about £60 a week.

Wow. My daughter and I get take out and neither of us need to lose weight at all.

Take aways are overpriced junk food which I appreciate makes me sound sanctimonious, but it's the truth

I ordered takeaway Sashimi Wednesday. That’s not junk food. Last week a friend and I shared dim sum. That’s not junk food. Just because you order it doesn’t mean everyone else does @Justcallmebebes

Yes it really depends on what you get.

Sushi is my favourite takeaway and it's not unhealthy

There's a place near us that does lovely salads, all around 500-600 cals as well

What was with the 🤢 face then? Anyone with genuine food aversions dont question why people without those difficulties can eat those foods. You live by your faddy UPF standards, I’m sure you’ll live to 100. Rest of us will have some chips and die happy.

Because it makes me vomit 😂

Waitingfordoggo · 29/11/2024 21:14

We get takeaway once or twice a month. DH and the kids would probably like it once a week but I don't rate it really. It's expensive where we are (south coast) and although the food is usually perfectly fine, I just don't love it. I'm not massively into Indian food, and am not a fan of Chinese at all. Takeaway pizza is extremely expensive and poor quality, the kids and OH like burger and KFC but I'm not into those. Actually the one I like the best (fish and chips) is the cheapest by a long way. We can easily feed four of us (including two older teens- one of whom eats like a horse) for around £20-£25, partly because the chip portions are so vast, we only need two portions between the four of us (and there'd be some left over).

How do people afford so many takeaways? Thought the majority of people were struggling financially...

StaunchMomma · 29/11/2024 21:17

One a month would be too much for me, in honesty.

I'm a bat fastard but I find takeways so greasy and salty.

I often crave one but then find them disappointing.

MarchInHappiness · 29/11/2024 21:18

When I was a single parent it was once every fortnight (pay day) as a treat,

Even though I am on my own, takeout is rare now, its just so expensive. DD lives three hours away, her DP is Vegan and there is a amazing vegan takeout burger joint near me, we always go when they are down but it costs me a small fortune!

Actually - if sushi is included then yes, I could happily do weekly!

We get maybe one every month or two. I can't believe you all get multiple per week 😱 It must cost a fortune!

It does but I’m happy to spend my money and pay for the convenience tbh

I think some of the people who are struggling probably avoid threads like these 🫠 We're not struggling, but those I know who are certainly aren't ordering takeaways frequently at all.

Shakingreasons · 29/11/2024 21:19

some people are. Some people aren’t. Obviously if you are then don’t order lots of takeaways.

Our neighbours have at least one a day. Then they go for a couple of with hardly any, then it's back to at least one a day.

LOL are you number 30 by any chance? I swear this has been written about me

Delivery driver? We should be so lucky. We live in the middle of nowhere and no drivers come out here, but the nearest Chinese takeaway (8 miles away) treat me like a long lost cousin when I walk in for my chicken with cashew nuts (Cantonese style) and egg fried rice. 🤗

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 29/11/2024 21:23

I live rurally, so no takeaways or food deliveries. I do really miss them, especially Chinese, but I suppose it's better for us. We go on holiday in the UK a few times year and ordering Chinese one of the nights is always a massive deal for me. DD who has grown up on all that organic, home-cooked stuff doesn't see the appeal. The last time we did this we ordered from a really crap takeaway place - the food was horrid and I was ridiculously disappointed. When I retire I shall buy a flat above a good takeaway and have it every night to make up for all the homemade lentil soup and home-baked bread I've had to eat over the years.

😆, yes we prefer to save our hard-earned dosh for our annual visit to the Connaught Grill!

Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough.

Some of us have more money than you. It can’t be that hard to understand?

Bellie710 · 29/11/2024 21:31

I am so jealous we don't have the options for takeaway where I live, every night is a cooking night 🙁

TheMaskedSingSong · 29/11/2024 21:31

We go without it for months then have a week where we have three or four. This week we had mcdonald's, chippy tea and a carvery!!

Ha ha, no! I sit at the window to work at our dining table so see their breakfast/lunch/dinner deliveries. I'm quite jealous but I so want to knowhow much money they spend in a month!

Well that isn't very nice. Why even make that comment?

Scirocco · 29/11/2024 21:36

We have one maybe once a month. It's usually from a local Lebanese restaurant we love, which does Lebanese food far better than I could do at home.

goldenshred · 29/11/2024 21:38

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 29/11/2024 19:33

You tip at McDonalds?

Delivery yes?

Ultravox · 29/11/2024 21:39

Admittedly DH & I both love cooking, so we mostly make everything from scratch. Takeaways are usually every 3 months or so when the kids want one for a treat or if we are wildly hungover.

Our household earnings are in the top 5% in the UK and I still think they are expensive. Everyone prioritises different things in life but I’d prefer to use my money for holidays or restaurants than takeaways.

Howmanymoredays · 29/11/2024 21:41

Probably last had one about 15 years ago. What a waste of money
