I think we definitely slipped into too many after tonight.

The delivery driver asked me if I'm ok/if everything is ok , because he hasn't seen me in a long time.

Ooops. Grin

We used to have 3 or 4 a week and now have just one a week. Although the sad thing is it would be cheaper to order a takeaway dinner every night than it is to but the ingredients for dinners from the supermarket!

Talkabtit101 · 29/11/2024 20:16

2-3 x a week. Usually weekends as it's finally time after long week of juggling work and cooking. Fri-Sat-sun.

Mid 20's, financially can afford it, don't splurge on anything else and have no vices. But we love food.

spanieleyes22 · 29/11/2024 20:24

I haven't had a takeaway for about 20
Years! It never crosses my mind maybe I'm missing out!

PrincessofWells · 29/11/2024 20:30

But what about all that sugar and salt and trans fats and its all ultra processed stuff 🤢

They are the best bits.

What a bizarre assumption.

Papyrophile · 29/11/2024 20:36

We don't have local delivery so have to fetch any takeaways. Given most taste like shite, takeaway is a very rare event in our house.

Merrymess · 29/11/2024 20:38

These threads are always funny. The superior sneering from the we don't have takeaway bores are always worth an eyeroll.

I wasn't sneering - I genuinely can't eat upf - anything with a high fat and/or salt content makes me ill, which rules out pretty much all takeouts.

bryceQ · 29/11/2024 20:42

On deliveroo and uber eats we have every option of cuisine imaginable. We sometimes go to a fresh pasta place mid week and maybe dishoom once a month. All takeaways aren't salty, greasy style! It's mostly restaurants round me.

WrigglyDonCat · 29/11/2024 20:42

I had fish and chips in October 2006. So I make that roughly 0.05 takeaways per year. So on the n+1 formula postulated by others, that means that 1.05 takeaways is too many.

EDIT: Useless bloody scientist. Should be rounded up to 0.06 per year - amateur hour all round

kiraric · 29/11/2024 20:42

We used to get them more often but I have just gone off them a bit now.

It's nice not to have to cook but I often find takeaway just not that great. And DH and I have slightly incompatible tastes - I would generally want to get sushi or Thai, he generally wants Mexican or a burger.

Matronic6 · 29/11/2024 20:42

We used to have one once a week but have been so disappointed the cost just hasn't been worth it. An amazing Indian closed down last year and we have tried desperately to find a replacement to no avail, tried a high rated one last week and spent £50 for a couple of curries with dry meat and sauces that felt like they were from a jar.

So it's gone down to once a month when we really just cannot be arsed.

Lyannaa · 29/11/2024 20:44

We don't get more than 3 a month. I think that's ok...

Ohhh Dishoom 🤤

I'm glad I'm not in the catchment area for it, because I would genuinely order the black daal EVERY DAY. 0 willpower when it comes to Dishoom.

What was with the 🤢 face then? Anyone with genuine food aversions dont question why people without those difficulties can eat those foods. You live by your faddy UPF standards, I’m sure you’ll live to 100. Rest of us will have some chips and die happy.

😆, yes we prefer to save our hard-earned dosh for our annual visit to the Connaught Grill!

BiggestFan · 29/11/2024 20:47

We probably have a takeaway every few of months on average. We go out for lunch or dinner at least once a week though as we prefer the food at places here that don’t do takeaway.

GoldenSunflowers · 29/11/2024 20:51

We have them 4-5 times a year. We last had one two months ago, when a birthday fell in the middle of the week. They’re too expensive.

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 29/11/2024 20:54

My takeaway arrives with my name on the front. Something like “Enjoy your crab cakes Sunshine! Thanks again” and then usually a freebie. So embarrassing

ttcat37 · 29/11/2024 20:58

I think more than 1 or 2 a month is a lot. Although we haven’t had one for a good 6 or 8 months. They are a treat for us, but we don’t have many options here so everything on offer is unhealthy. If we had some better options we might have them more often.

followmyflow · 29/11/2024 20:59

i did have them once a week but ive been a bit disappointed with them recently. they just dont make me feel good once im done. my body cant handle all the carbs, fat and oil at once anymore! i suppose i'm getting old. there is a japanese takeaway in my city that is very nice and doesnt make me feel rough but unfortunately its all the way across town and too far away to order from normally, the food takes a long time to come.

Shakingreasons · 29/11/2024 21:00

Take aways are overpriced junk food which I appreciate makes me sound sanctimonious, but it's the truth

I ordered takeaway Sashimi Wednesday. That’s not junk food. Last week a friend and I shared dim sum. That’s not junk food. Just because you order it doesn’t mean everyone else does @Justcallmebebes

SweetDreamsTonight · 29/11/2024 21:03

We usually have about 1-2 a month, used to be lot worse (one a week) but then since the cost of living has gone up we've had to cut down on our spending habits. Xmas Angry
Oh well enjoyed it while it lasted, having them several times a week seems a bit extreme though. Xmas Shock
