I think we definitely slipped into too many after tonight.

The delivery driver asked me if I'm ok/if everything is ok , because he hasn't seen me in a long time.

Ooops. Grin

Wow those of you who order them regularly, do you not mind spending that much money on food that's usually kind of average? I have ordered a curry tonight for 3 of us and it was £54 - I certainly can't afford to do that more than once every few months.
Also they give me heartburn and I always feel grim the next day. I'm only doing it as dc loves it!

Trick is to make the rice and buy supermarket poppadoms/naan instead, that £54 will reduce to approx £35

We used to have 3 or 4 a week and now have just one a week. Although the sad thing is it would be cheaper to order a takeaway dinner every night than it is to but the ingredients for dinners from the supermarket!

What do you cook? Cooking is always cheaper than takeaways surely!
Eg domino pizza is £10 ish, a supermarket posh pizza is £5, a homemade pizza is £2 if margarita excluding oven costs.

StSwithinsDay · 29/11/2024 21:46

Dp just ordering the third one this week, 2 McDonald's and a kebab. It will be Indian tomorrow and full English Sunday morning

Are you not concerned about the food you eat?

NeedToChangeName · 29/11/2024 21:46

I always like the idea of a takeaway more than the reality. We only have a few per year

henlake7 · 29/11/2024 21:48

I treat myself to 3 a year (Xmas, birthday and one in between).
Used to be at least weekly but it is a giant waste of money if you don't have a lot and I was trying to lose weight.
I don't miss them but I do enjoy 'take away day' when it comes round!😀

Kool4katz · 29/11/2024 21:56

We live very rural and so there are no fast food places that deliver to us. The nearest Indian takeaway is 30mins drive away so it needs microwaving when we get home. Usually, the only time we get a takeaway is on holiday.

Consequently, I've become very proficient in cooking the Indian and Chinese style meals I like the best. ☺️

Hoose rice!! 😫

RedRoss86 · 29/11/2024 22:04

Family of 5 and generally get one every 2 weeks. Used to be a Friday night treat but it's very expensive now.
Sometimes I just need not to cook for one night of the bloody week though 🙈

The amount of delivery drivers in mcD tonight was nuts. Along with massive drive thru queue and in restaurant. McD must be minting it.

Tagyoureit · 29/11/2024 22:13

Once or twice a month for us but I couldn't eat so many takeaways in 1 week, I'd feel awful, my kids and DH would probably love it though.

Last time we went away, eating out at restaurants, cafes, service stations etc, I was craving vegetables by the time I got back home! 🙈

OldTinHat · 29/11/2024 22:20

I'm on first name terms with Uber Eats and Deliveroo drivers.

The Uber Eats guy delivered on my birthday and, when I told him, he came back later with a bunch of flowers.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 29/11/2024 22:22

For us, it's not the cost, it's the convenience.

We go out for drinks, get home late, there's no way we're cooking at 10-11pm! A takeaway is the best bet - delivered within 30 mins, job done 🤌

This one wins, I think 😂

They're upsetting their drive through and café customers though. The waits are so long.

Good sushi in Leeds. Son learnt to make his own Sushi in the end. Goes to the fish market when they're in the mood for Sushi.

SuffolkUnicorn · 29/11/2024 22:28

Never buy them I always say I will then I don’t I suppose I’d rather buy nice food and cook it myself and if I can’t be bothered to cook I’ll have toast. Growing up we only ever had chips from the chip shop or a pizza on Christmas Eve I think it’s the cost that puts me off

FunnysInLaJardin · 29/11/2024 22:30

we had a takeaway in October in the UK when we visited DS at uni. I think the last one was about 3 years ago!

It is sooo easy in the UK!

justasking111 · 29/11/2024 22:32

Never order pizza so easy to make your own or choose one from a supermarket and augment.

Wok cooking isn't great on our induction hob unfortunately so Chinese food we do pick up a takeaway a few times a year.

I prefer a lunch out to be honest these days. It's nice to go to a country pub have a light lunch, come home to no dirty dishes and doze in front of the fire at this time of year.

JockTamsonsBairns · 29/11/2024 23:27

I have 2 takeaways a year - unfortunately due to cost restrictions.
DH has them a bit more often, as he'll sometimes go and collect a kebab on a Friday payday - and I'm not fussed for a kebab.

I'm the cook in this house, and do everything from scratch. However, on a Friday, it's frozen pizzas in the oven 🤷‍♀️. That's my night off from cooking, and has been since the DCs were young.

Also, I live rurally, so my options are limited. I can't get a delivery - I would need to collect it, which would involve a 45 minute round trip.

I live in Yorkshire. My family is in Glasgow, and DHs family live in the SE - so we're used to travelling long journeys.
I'm not keen on McDonald's, but that's often the most convenient option if we're doing a 5hr journey.
That said, I had a Zinger burger from KFC a few months ago, and it was an absolute taste sensation!

Letmegohome · 29/11/2024 23:34

I've lived at this house for ten years and never had a a take away delivered! Only deliveries are online shopping (not food, we go to the shops) or post!

cherish123 · 30/11/2024 00:07

Any more than one per month is a lot.

Letmegohome · 30/11/2024 00:15

When I was in hospital , the last three times quite a few got deliveries of food and on one ward someone offered to get everyone something & they could PayPal her the money , I didn't because of allergies (also the reason of no take aways delivered, as I said up thread) when I had my gallbladder removed the lady in the bed opposite had KFC , a huge pizza & a kebab burger delivered to the ward most of us couldn't even eat dry toast! ( Not one meal but over two days)

justasking111 · 30/11/2024 00:21

Our hospital you can purchase from the canteen for patients , it's not bad I'm told. Just eat hasn't really taken off here too many rural areas.

PassingStranger · 30/11/2024 00:22

It's lazy.....expensive and unhealthy.
