I think we definitely slipped into too many after tonight.

The delivery driver asked me if I'm ok/if everything is ok , because he hasn't seen me in a long time.

Ooops. Grin

Omg ours does that! 🤣
Tbf we live in a small place and they don't deliver outside of here so they won't actually be delivering to that many people so are more likely to remember the people they do.... thats what I tell myself anyway!!!
We only have takeaway around once every 3 weeks or so.. but we always use the same takeaway.
Once I had some people staying and ended up getting takeaway from this takeaway 3 nights running... I was pretty embarrassed as it was the same delivery guy who greted me like a friend!!

thebear1 · 29/11/2024 19:11

Love a takeaway but can't justify cost, so it's become a special occasion thing, so have a Chinese in a few weeks for a birthday.

BreadInCaptivity · 29/11/2024 19:11

Once a month would be average.

That's because the village Indian Takeout is fantastic and it's very hard to resist and a good pizza is well....just a basic human right on occasion.

We are not moving ever while it's there.

Can't fathom multiple times a week though and not even from a cost perspective.

Can't remember when I last had a McDonalds and have no desire to have one.

Just couldn't really feel great about eating so much unhealthy food and much prefer to cook healthy meals at home the majority of the time.

One time my partner asked me what I wanted and then said "you don't normally order that." Which was fine until he rang in the order and the guy at the other end said "you don't normally order that!"

Also one time we were at a friends' and ordered takeaway for delivery. Opened the door and the guy said to me, "Did you move house?" 😂

This is hilarious 😂

We have fish and chips maybe 3 times a year and will eat it at the beach.

None of our local takeaways are very good, it's really expensive for doughy pizza or brown unspecified curry.

I visit friends who have great takeaway options, we'd probably have one a fortnight if they were any good.

We eat out a lot....

Sassybooklover · 29/11/2024 19:15

We usually eat out once a week. Occasionally, instead of eating out, we may have a takeaway.

Are you worried on health or financial grounds or both

Or neither. It is actually possible to have regular takeaways and be neither overweight nor destitute.

I get a Christmas card from our favourite Chinese, what's worse is we don't even get it with an order. Its posted and they use our names 😳

They also put freebies in thinking it was someone's birthday. It wasn't anybodys birthday......we're just fat greedy bastards who hadn't had a takeaway in ages so ordered half the menu. I was snacking on butter battered chicken and wontons for days after. 🤣🤣🤣

Living your absolute best life, I am so envious!

I always find them a huge and costly disappoitment. Used to love em.

GoldenLegend · 29/11/2024 19:24

I used to get one a week, but I just can't afford it any more.

Bought a pizza in Sainsbo's today for dinner tonight though.

LizzoBennett · 29/11/2024 19:25

Approx. once a year. We used to eat out once a month or so pre-kids but we haven't in 2 years or so now.

Let me guess...you're a bit of a dick really aren't you?

fedup33 · 29/11/2024 19:27

It used to be a cheap and ceerful treat with a bottle of wine. What a joke, we can't bloody drink and we can't afford the TA. Eating out....no chance.

BettyBardMacDonald · 29/11/2024 19:27

Wow. We get one 2 or 3 times a year.

I'm too miserly to spend on weekly (or more often) takeaways! Rather spend my money on traveling and doing up the house. And saving to quit my job next year!

LittleTwiggy · 29/11/2024 19:27

We used to get them once a week but we’ve cut down to fortnightly as they’re quite pricey (£40-45 on average for two of us), mainly as they’re from restaurants via Deliveroo. We’re close to our town centre so plenty of choice and the food is fantastic.

justasking111 · 29/11/2024 19:28

When son was at university in Leeds he and girlfriend had such a choice of takeaways and they weren't expensive so if one was bogged down finishing an assignment then the other would either go out or get a delivery which came very quickly.

Here in Wales I used Just Eat once, waited an hour and a half then cancelled.

Anyone in an Uber area probably fares better

Gettingbysomehow · 29/11/2024 19:29

I live in rural Somerset there are no takeaway deliveries here. Id have to drive 10 miles.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 29/11/2024 19:30

The formula for "too many takeaways" is n+1 - where n is the number consumed to date.

JudgeJ · 29/11/2024 19:31

ohtowinthelottery · 29/11/2024 18:55

We get a takeaway about once a year - usually an Indian and even then we have to be desperate!

I find the food usually disappoints and is ridiculously expensive. There's always something in the house to rustle up a quick tea from scratch so we're never that desperate and certainly don't see it as a treat.

From some of these posts I am amazed at the cost of take aways! I tend to split the difference in a way, I bought some proper beef from the butcher, not the water-filled supermarket stuff, and used a ready made sauce to do beef curry in the slow cooker, I then froze a few portions.

Fizbosshoes · 29/11/2024 19:31

We have about 4 takeaways a year, me and DC love take away pizza but DH insists shop bought or home made is just as good obviously they arent and we have a couple of Indian takeaways which are amazing.

Has yours not gone up by loads? Even mcdonalds now about 50 pounds for 4 with fees and a tip. Let alone an Indian, Chinese or Franco Manco 'posh' pizza!

You tip at McDonalds?

coffeesaveslives · 29/11/2024 19:33

Misfitkickedoutonthestreet · 29/11/2024 18:33

Wow those of you who order them regularly, do you not mind spending that much money on food that's usually kind of average? I have ordered a curry tonight for 3 of us and it was £54 - I certainly can't afford to do that more than once every few months.
Also they give me heartburn and I always feel grim the next day. I'm only doing it as dc loves it!

Ours doesn't cost anywhere near that amount, and it always tastes good. I wouldn't order food that was average - well, certainly not more than once, lol.

Kneenightmare · 29/11/2024 19:33

We have 4-5 a year and to be honest I’m always disappointed afterwards. I prefer going out for dinner. It’s a great way to force the kids (teens) to talk to you as well!
