I think we definitely slipped into too many after tonight.

The delivery driver asked me if I'm ok/if everything is ok , because he hasn't seen me in a long time.

Ooops. Grin

In the summer, for some reason the app changed my address to a different number house. Got a very confused phone call from the same guy because he was outside and he recognised the name and the order , but the address was wrong.

He's great! Grin

Wow those of you who order them regularly, do you not mind spending that much money on food that's usually kind of average? I have ordered a curry tonight for 3 of us and it was £54 - I certainly can't afford to do that more than once every few months.
Also they give me heartburn and I always feel grim the next day. I'm only doing it as dc loves it!

God, three of us that would be about £25/30, we are up
North though.

TheMotherShipAhoy · 29/11/2024 19:35

I find them a bit meh. There's also a lot of plastic packaging with some cuisines which is a hard no from me. We have takeaways a couple of times a year when staying with MiL. We both like cooking and eating healthily so it's not really a thing for us.

We get maybe one every month or two. I can't believe you all get multiple per week 😱 It must cost a fortune!

We get slightly more than that, maybe once every three or four weeks.

Although to be frank, it was a lot more before covid, maybe once a week, but prices have gone up so much and during covid I learnt that I could often cook a Chinese or Indian as well as the local takeaways anyway.

But I do agree with you that this has been a bit of an eye opener that people do use takeaways multiple times a week. This is something that I do appreciate about MN, you really do get exposed to a wide range of experiences and opinions here.

ohtowinthelottery · 29/11/2024 19:38

@JudgeJ We usually have what I call a Friday night kind of tea. Usually something like curry made with meat from the butchers, a jar of curry paste but with extra added fresh ingredients, or tonight it was fajitas made with fresh chicken, onions and peppers added to a fajita kit (tortillas, seasoning and salsa) or maybe burgers in brioche buns with added toppings. None of it takes long to cook - definitely quicker than waiting for a takeaway delivery and certainly a whole lot cheaper and healthier.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 29/11/2024 19:38

Never get takeaways as they always arrive cold/soggy/flattened and with costs on top they're easily £50 each. Not worth it!

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/11/2024 19:38

We have one a week. They usually last two nights depending on the cuisine and how many of us are eating. I cook most of the time and have a good freezer stock too but sometimes I just want a night off.

It's never that much and definitely not average. It's actually great food , that tastes amazing (to me at least) and some places are the only ones where I can get food that tastes like food from my home country. The excitement! Grin

When I was married, my exH got a christmas card from our local curry place!

I don't eat them at all now - not tasty enough to justify the calories or cost in my view.

😂😂😂😂

Reframe it. It's not 'just having another takeaway' (guilt) its 'helping the delivery drivers Mental Health by seeing me' (good contributor to society).

Helping the economy, keeping people in jobs, etc etc.

We actually prefer to eat out than to have a take away. Food quality is generally better. We eat out at least fortnightly with DC. We have set places we go to, dim sum/thai/turkish. McDonald's fortnightly for DC and DH not for me. Means I don't have to cook lunch on that weekend day.

Is 69 be too many.Would 69 be too many? I'm worried for you but feel like I should totally do nothing.

justasking111 · 29/11/2024 19:42

Friend in New York is a realtor. She's valued properties with beautiful kitchens where no-one ever cooks. People either eat out or have a takeaway.

I wonder if they started cooking in the lockdowns.

£25/30 for three curries? Wow that is good value! It is £55 where we live but my Mum is in the Midlands and it is the same price!

justasking111 · 29/11/2024 19:45

Our local Chinese around £8 per meal and it's too much to eat. We're in Wales.

LozzaChops101 · 29/11/2024 19:45

I have one maybe every 2 or 3 months (they’re all a bit crap round here), but we still got a Christmas card last year from the tandoori at the end of the road 😭

I'm guessing that's delivered through Deliveroo or Just Eat etc

You can get healthy takeaways where I live but you are right about the plastic waste with some!

Motnight · 29/11/2024 19:47

We have more or less given up on takeaways. Very expensive and not that great. And we live in London. It got to the point when DH and I were spending £40 plus on non descript pizzas when I drew the line.

Let me guess, you're starting to feel lonelier as you get older and would really like to make some friends but everyone seems so flaky / hard to befriend and you're not sure why?!

It's become completely unaffordable in London so a rare treat.
